Do energy drinks really give you.. energy?

I never really understood why they are called energy drinks. Personally, they don't make me any more hyper, alert, awake, or crazy than I already am. Even when I do drink them in the evening, I still go to bed at the same time. Many of them taste awful, and burn your throat when they go down. Maybe I'm just an oddball. :rolleyes:

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. Sometimes they just keep me from wanting to fall asleep.

When I stopped drinking soda (Mt. Dew and Dr. Pepper primarily) and other stuff like that, I had a Rockstar Zero Carb (which oddly enough is frickin' good!), and at the time i was a web developer at an art gallery... i couldn't sit still after it hit me lol, and i ran around the gallery rehanging art. i dunno, just felt like it.

had an AMP yesterday (first energy drink in a while) and i felt a lot more energy, but if you drink them regularly, you have to keep drinking them to keep yourself up and going at all lol.

Technically any drink is an energy drink. Energy comes from calories, which are in just about everything. (except maybe water)

These so-called "energy" drinks are just the product of fad-marketing. Most of the time they're identical to regular pop/juice, with a crapton of caffeine and other stimulants added.

I don't put any stock in them being practically caffeine immune myself. I pretty regularly down a can or two of Coke right before bed and then go sound asleep.

It all depends on how frequent you drink them.
Much like coffee, if you drink it everyday, it doesn't have the same effect as it would if you only had it once in a while.

I drink one coffee everyday. I've stopped for months at a time before, and the next time I had one, I was shaking like a heroin addict lol

Before coffee, I was a Red Bull fiend, but if I stopped for a while, then had one, I'd be going nuts.

Your body just gets used to, and maybe even immuned, to it eventually, if it's often enough.

I bet the soda companies completley freaked when they realized that people would pay $2.29 for a 16oz beverage w/ xtra caffeine, b vitamins, and a few herbs....

i'll stick to a 90 pill bottle of Jet alert(200mg caffeine pills, plain and simple) for $3 from walmart...gets the job done:)

Everything you eat or consume has calories (actually, when people say 128 calories or w.e. they really mean kilo-calories, or kcal). Heck, even the air is going to have a TEENY WEENY BIT OF UNMEASUREABLE ENERGY.

Its what keeps you going. Your food/drink is digested and you gain energy, as well as protein, fat etc. (fats a different type of energy usage but i won't explain, its not neccesary)

So, an energy drink will either have more sugar (adding to more calories... but remember if you don't burn the calories as energy then the remaining energy will be stored as body fat) or caffeine, or maybe taurene like Red Bull. Caffeine and Taurene simply increases blood circulation so in essence it keeps you going quicker. The opposite would be if you lost a load of blood, you'd feel tired.

But, stick to one rule: Everything in moderation and you'll be fine.

If you want a real good ass kicking energy drink go for either those 5 Hour Energy shots or this drink called Redline.

Redline is one of my personal favorites for gaming, because it takes you right on the edge of a heart attack, and you end up doing stuff you never thought was possible.

They all work for me, but then again, a lot of things have a huge effect on my body. I actually like the taste of Redbull, maybe I'm weird. I work over nights (6pm to 6am) and I've definatly used my fair share of these. Redbull will keep me going, but I usually end up drinking 2 or 3 because they only last an hour or so. The 5 hour energy tastes like piss, but if you can chug it, it's been the best so far.

If I remember correctly, Redline is the drink that my wife bought at 7-11 a while back, and they said that they were required to ID people buying it to make sure they were over 18. crazy. something about it being severely potent and/or dangerous lol... sounds like a good time to me!
