View Full Version : My to biggest concerns regarding RB:

1. To have the guitar controller's strummer be similar to the model 55 GH 2 X-Plorer controller... as in, you can strum along, but the strum bar always bounces back in such a way that it is as if you strum twice, thus losing any and all combo meter. My girlfriend has a model 55 controller, and it is terrible, and it doesn't help that all the store kiosks of GH 2 I've played have and use the model 55 guitar, and each strum bar is the same: Crappy, loose and way too bouncey.

I personally have a model 65 X-Plorer, and the strum bar feels a lot like a click of a mouse. There is hardly, if any at all, "double bounce" and it feels very responsive.

2. I was wondering how calibrating the lag would work for those with HDTVs? In GH 2, you had to strum to the beat of the notes crossing the screen (under Video Options). It seems every time my girlfriend and I play GH over at her house on her HD, we always have to set the lag to something different, which really messes up hammer on and pull offs.

I was wondering if a similar test would be used for RB? Or if we could manually in put the latency? I know calibrating GH to around ~65-68ms of lag seems to allow for really smooth gameplay... I just think it would be better to be able to manually input the latency if you know the lag your HDTV has between it's audio and video channels.

Any comments directing me to something to answer or address these concerns would be most appreciated.

According to members of this forum who attended PaX, the new Fender Rock Band guitar will satisfy all your rocking needs.

As to the lag issue, I don't think that has been discussed yet. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I believe you're right, it hasn't been discussed in depth. Although a Harmonix employee did mention (Alex I think...) that they came up with a way to have little or no lag during online games.

Alex was talking about online latency problems when playing against/with other ppl. xfMike was talking about the lag that u get even in single player mode between the controller and hi def plasmas or LCD's

I hope they figure something out coz I have major problems playing GH 2 on my HDTV

At PAX, I asked Sean about the HDTV lag for their set-up. I asked if they had to calibrate it, and of course he said yes. He said they had tried really hard to get it spot on, and they did. When I was playing, I didn't notice any lag at all. So, hopefully, the feature will be easy to use, and yield good results.

Yep...perfect at PAX, although it was set up by the man who designed the calibration system...

you can strum along, but the strum bar always bounces back in such a way that it is as if you strum twice, thus losing any and all combo meter.

To address that problem, I just hold the strum bar between my thumb and index finger and strum like that, to stop it from snapping back.

Yeah, but thats no fun. You need to be able to rock out, smash that little strum bar as hard as you can!

That is true, completely, but whenever the rock takes over, and I do smash the strum bar, I epicly fail.

Of note is that we got it running pretty perfect on the televisions in our booth in a very short amount of time as well as on the tv in the Microsoft booth and later on the tvs at the Omegathon. Our system for this, I think, should work quite well on most setups people have.

Thanks for the replies guys. :)

I'm completely geeked about Rock Band and can't wait to get the bundle (I have half of it paid off, but I want to wait until they officially announce everything before putting anymore money on it) and get my family and/or my girlfriend and her family to play this game... :)
