Since we can do nothing but think about this game all day, I was thinking about using vox online.
I think for in-house play, a full-band would provide the most fun, but for online play with a ? on the talent pool for singers (i cant shake the guy that made me cringe when he butchered dead or alive in i believe an IGN clip), wouldn't it be better to have the original track providing the vocals? i mean if you can score an amazing singer that would be great, and you would probably want him on your list as a permanent band member, but if you're online looking for a random jam session not knowing who your band mates are, wouldn't you be frustrated if you had some guy who really has no business breathing into a mic?
I guess it would be dependent on whether or not there will be a leaderboard or something where points or whatever apply only to 4-piece bands. then you're forced to seek out singers.
Or maybe when you go online you have to have all 4 positions covered before you can even play a track. who knows.

One way it might work is that it won't matter how many people you have in the band in order to join band vs. band play, but since you won't be earning points from the parts you are missing, it will be harder to win.
Maybe not the best way but probably the least complicated in terms of trying to maintain leaderboards and such.

i guess it would really help too if maybe there was a rating system in place. like say based on a 4 or 5 star scale, the stars would appear next to your name in a lobby or something. then you could invite that particular player proven to be able to sing or play drums or guitar.
although i must say beginners (and i would be one of them since ive only played guitar hero like three times) would be frustrated over this system because they would never get invited if their rating was one star.

I suggested something similar back in the day. I think they should have a 1 to 4 star rating for each player at each instrument you've played online. So basically next to your name it might say Drums ** Guitar *** Bass * Vocals ****, and it'll tell everyone in the waiting room what role you might fit in their band.
My other suggestion was to have a seperate "Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame" for anyone who has mastered all 4 instruments and is 4 stars across the board.
I don't think beginners will be too pissed though, I'm sure there'll be no shortage of other beginners looking for someone to jam with.

I was thinking the same thing not too long ago. If you're nervous about ending up with a crappy singer, might as well just let the computer do it.
Although, this would dull down your overall score wouldn't it? I think band co-op quickplay is fine with 2 or more, but if you're doing a band career or (if it happens) band vs band, you would want a full band so you could up your score higher.
And yes, a rating system is a must, and I trust that HMX is all over it. I have no doubts there.
