I've tried to pick songs that are not only good guitar parts, but also excellent bass/vocals (if applicable)

Keep in mind I've been playing guitar for around 15 years, and have amassed around 37,000 mp3's (152GB) so I basically just sat here going through A-Z listening to them here and there in Winamp (if I didn't know which song instantly, I listened to anywhere from a few to the entire discography of a band to pick one)

Keep in mind I'm also a very big nerd, but I love Guitar Hero and am VERY excited for Rock Band (lol, we've already got the band picked out, me on guitar, D-Wayne on bass, my gf singing, my brother on drums haha).

anyway, the Harmonix guys are even bigger music nerds than I am but maybe some of these songs will make them say "oh hell yeah, I forgot about that song/band/album!!! WE GOT TO HAVE THAT!"

Maybe also they will scratch their heads at some of them, and go find the song to see what the heck I'm talking about.

The one song that absolutely must be in Rock Band is the first one on the list.

And what about 'anything from Bon Jovi' ?.

As a guitarrist, I supose you would love to play a Richie Sambora solo. Right ?.

Regards. :)

Love the list!

especially "We're An American Band - Grand Funk Railroad" as the Rockband/Rock Band theme song but that wouldn't work with being an International game.

I didn't think anybody but me had ever heard of Yes before. They ROCK. their bassist was awesome. Roundabout should definately be in the game.

unfortunately I've always considered Bon Jovi sub-par and could never figure out why they were so popular (like about 75% of all hair-metal bands, I always felt they were popular for the 'glam' and not their skill as musicians).

I'm pretty sure I could sit down each day and come up with 25 new songs that would be excellent songs for either Rock Band or Guitar Hero (but it seems the Harmonix nerds actually read the forums unlike the GH people...I'm one of the many who are very displeased with the Xbox360 DLC prices).

Keep in mind everyone has an opinion, and hardly anyone agrees with anyone else when it comes to opinions =/

Hi,

(First of all I am sorry for my bad English)

Of course that I respect your opinion, and as a Bon Jovi fan, I am used to listen to that kind of comments about my favourite band. Music is like colours, someone likes ones, and someone likes another ones, we can't always agree.

But let me notice one point: I am almost sure you have not assisted a Bon Jovi show, as you say they are not good musicians, and you have not payed attention to them pretty, I bet.

There are a lot of people (music writers, music players, etc.) that don't specially like Bon Jovi, but they consider they are a very professional and experienced musicians, and that can be appreciated specially when they play live. And that's one of the reasons they have survived till nowadays among all the hair metal bands that "died" passed the 80's, and Bon Jovi is nowadays one of the most important rock bands in the planet.

Of course, I don't agree whith the direction the band took these recent years. I like the 'old' Bon Jovi (until the "These Days" album).

:) Hey ! Nevertheless, I'm happy that we have matched two songs in our set up lists for Rock Band. In another of my posts, I put "Still Of The Night" (Whitesnake) and "Fire Woman" (The Cult). And that was before I read your post.

I encourage you to view a live Bon Jovi DVD or record tape and I am sure you can change your opinion at least a bit. Some friends of mine (who didn't like Bon Jovi) assisted to Bon Jovi shows (just to compain ther girlfriends) and when they left the stadium, they told me that they enjoyed a lot the show, and that Bon Jovi are much better than they thought before. At live, they are very very good.

Best regards.

I've seen Bon Jovi twice in the 80's and they were disappointing (however the legions of hot women in "Body Glove" skintight outfits almost made up for their disappointing music heh).

That always seems to be the argument that people use on others when they disagree (like Anime...I've watched plenty of it and find it all to be utterly stupid), and what it really means is that sometimes it's hard to accept someone doesn't agree with your opinion.

I'm almost 34 years old and I've been 'rocking' since the early 80's going to as many concerts as I possibly could (let's put it this way, I've seen Rush twice, Metallica 4 times, AC/DC twice, Motley Crue twice....I could go on and on and on). As a fan and as a musician, I just don't care for some bands/music. Bon Jovi has always been one of them (like Poison and many others from that era) that I didn't care for.

I don't deny that they were extremely popular. I also don't want to get into long-term discussions about why some of us think they are and others don't. I'd like to stick to hopefully influencing the Harmonix kids (lol) to pick a very wide range of bands/songs to put in their games, like the original Guitar Hero.

I've rarely found someone who doesn't agree that the GH1 songs were by far superior to the tracks found in GH2. While the GH2 songs are not really all that bad, they just weren't...as good and as...random and different.

I wouldn't be upset if Bon Jovi was in any game, I'd play it just like I play plenty of other songs in teh GH games that I don't really care for. I'm hoping for lots of different but very popular songs...but more than that, I'd like Rock Band to cover all genres and sub-genres of rock/metal/pop (ie anything but country and rap haha)

Thank you.

For explainig so well your opinions, whitout harming any feelings. I would love that other people who don't like Bon Jovi were as you.

But It's not hard for me to accept that someone don't agree with my opinion.

It was all about that it was suprising for me that considering your similar taste with music so similar to the mine (reading your set list, with a lot of songs and bands I like too) you don't like Bon Jovi.

Hey: :) Bon Jovi have inproved a lot since the mid 80's at shows :) I can't compare the first "New Jersey era" show I assisted to here in Madrid, to the last, in 2004, in Madrid too.

I reached 34 years old last October :o

heh, I'm too old for the "OMG BON JOVI SUX0RZZZ THEY ARE TEH GAY!!!!" nonsense that pervades the internet now (with everyone acting like they are 13 year old Counter-Strike players telling you 192 different ways to shag your own mother).

Getting older for me has made me a lot more objective, as well as allowed my musical tastes to really blossom into more than ONLY liking Metallica (old Metallica heh), like I did when I first picked up a guitar so many years ago...

Hmmm, starting to smell of old people around here :D

I have a few suggestions:
Radar Love - Golden Earring
Anything from The Who
Anything from (90s) Oasis
Anything from Thin Lizzy
Get It On - T.Rex
Inno A Satana - Emperor
Those Once Loyal - Bolt Thrower

....and most importantly:
ANYTHING from Iron Maiden!!!!!

Bonus songs
All The Young Dudes as covered by Bruce Dickinson
Summertime Blues as covered by Rush

ya see I didn't even think of Radar Love but that's a great song I'd definitely include.

not a big Who fan, nor Stones fan, but I dig Boys Are Back In Town or whatever the official name is by Thin Lizzy. Dunno the other 3, though I've heard of T.Rex, just never heard anything by him/them.

Iron Maiden is defintely cool because of the guitar duo, as well as the bass lines.

Thin Lizzy definitely needs more kudos then they get, also well done on the "Snap Your Fingers/ Snap Your Neck". It would make me smile ...probably because it rocks but also because I couldn't help but think it was hilarious that I was playing "Snap Your Fingers/ Snap Your Neck" anywhere in public.

some nice stuff on there, especially Earth Wind and Fire, and Grandfunk Railroad as a nice way to balance the heavy level of hardrock. :)

well now....I'm a serious metalhead...but as I've grown older, I really appreciate other styles/genres.

I REALLY dig the 'whicka-chicka' funk (heh, like porno music funkadelic) of EW&F and other 70's groups. It's much too much fun to play on a real guitar.

The one thing also I've learned after playing Guitar Hero for about 6 months, is that sometimes the guitar parts are a LOT more complex than what they sound like in a song (especially songs I never learned how to play). The Queens of the Stone Age song drives me friggin crazy trying to play it on Expert.

But I'm not just metal anymore, not just anything. I'm down with anything that has killer guitar parts (I could listen to Sultans of Swing 500 times a day maybe and only get sick of it after the 498th time haha), killer bass lines, cool drums, etc.

Besides, the games have to appeal to MASS market, not just potsmoking metalhead unemployed live-at-home-with-mom dudes.

My girlfriend and my brother are prime examples of MASS appeal. They loved Guitar Hero 1 for the great variety of songs. They both don't care for Guitar Hero 2 because of the real lack of variety. Don't get me wrong, some GH2 songs were freakin awesome (and a lot of the bonus songs are definitely awesome like Six, Thunderhorse, Arterial Black, etc)....but they just...they just aren't as good as the sets from GH1 in our opinion.

Ah well, I'm just rambling. Today is collection day so I'm REALLY $#@$#@^%T ANGRY because it's the day to chase down %#$@#@#'s that owe money (or else their PC's get repo'd)

Last Resort & Detroit Rock City would be wicked, I'd love to see either "One" or "For Whom the Bell Tolls" by Metallica; and naturally anything by The Who would be sick! I wanna see some Motley Crue as well; "Dr. Feelgood" or "Kickstart my heart" would do just fine!

honestly, I'd take ANYTHING from Metallica as long as it was And Justice For All... or earlier. Motley Crue, AC/DC, Zepplin...man give us the goods!!!
