Don't worry dude, you're kl with me, a nice guy, you disagree with me sometimes but you get on with it. Others aren't like that, and I thank you for being decent.
It appears 1 of 2 nice members on the forum have been discovered (well Sean's decent enough but hes an admin... according to my anarchist rules hes an enemy ;) haha j/k)

No one who would openly sport a Civil War beard could possibly be an enemy. He can do whatever he wants, but he's ok in my book. Way to go, Beard Commander! \m/

Grudge Match: BioShock vs. Metroid Prime III: Corruption
The one you've been waiting for has finally arrived. Two of gaming's heavyweights battle it out.
by Nate Ahearn
August 29, 2007 - There are decisions in life that are nearly impossible to make, like asking a parent to choose their favorite child, or deciding which is better, chocolate or vanilla. Such a mountain will be climbed today in this very article. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is the latest entry in one of Nintendo's many long-running series. It's a fantastic game - as our 9.5 review score would have you believe - that delivers awesome action and a control scheme that has many thinking that the Wii could be the future destination of choice for the hardcore FPS gamers out there. On the other end of the spectrum we have BioShock, a completely original intellectual property for the Xbox 360 and PC. It delivers a visceral world that grabs hold of the player and doesn't let go until the 20-hour experience comes to a close. Both provide RPG and puzzle solving elements to break up the intense action, and both will no doubt wind up on our list of nominees for Game of the Year.
But which game delivers the better overall gaming experience? Which of the two is the one that will make you want to sit your friends down and say, "This is why I play videogames, right here." Those are the questions that we're going to try to answer. So sit back, relax, get your hate mail prepped and ready, and prepare for the Grudge Match to end all Grudge Matches.
This Grudge Match isn't going to be as easy as the usual game comparisons that we do here on Insider. Obviously the Wii and Xbox 360 are totally different pieces of hardware that specialize in different areas of gaming, so doing a video comparison would do nothing but prove the obvious: BioShock is the better looking of the two games by a long shot. So let's just go ahead and throw visuals out the window. Instead we're going to be talking about the overall FPS experience, how each game advances the genre and which does it better.
The Main Characters
It's clear from the onset of each game that they're two entirely different beasts. Metroid features a character we all know and love, Samus Aran. She was one of the first female protagonists to break into the mainstream and she did so in style with a surprise reveal in the original NES game. The world of female heroes hasn't been the same since.
BioShock takes a different approach by making the main character a faceless, nameless, entity. It's a current trend in first-person shooters that leaves much of the character's attributes to be defined by the user. But which of the two heroes reigns supreme? That's a tough question to answer. On the one hand there's a staple of gaming in Metroid's Samus Aran, and on the other there's BioShock's faceless man. At the end of the day we're going to have to side with Samus, if not for her longevity in the gaming industry (she looks quite good considering she's been fighting aliens for 21 years now) then for the fact that we have such an incredible predisposed connection with her before diving into Corruption. The gamer develops a similar connection with BioShock's main character (referred to as Jack at the beginning of the game, but for all intents and purposes is nameless) but you'll never feel as engaged as you do with Samus.
The Immersion Factor
But as we all know, there is much more to a good game than a cool main character. Games like BioShock and Metroid rely heavily on the title's ability to immerse the gamer in their respective worlds. With Metroid we get to explore several different worlds, all through the eyes of Samus. We hop into her spacecraft - circa Star Wars Episode II - select our destination and ship off to a host of distinct worlds, all of which feel adequately different from one another. BioShock on the other hand does quite the opposite. Players are confined to a world called Rapture which is an underground utopia that's gone horribly awry. The people at 2K's Boston studio have created a world of claustrophobia and horror, but one can't help but prefer the expansiveness that Metroid Prime 3's planet hopping adventure provides.
Yet there's much more to the overall immersion of a game than the aesthetics of the surrounding world(s). Things like the sound design need to be taken into account before the more immersive of the two can be crowned. With BioShock we get a world unlike any other. Right from the get-go, players are thrown into the world of Andrew Ryan, scouring his beloved Rapture for diaries of long-gone citizens of the failed society. The voice acting in BioShock is the best I've seen in a videogame. Ever. Every splicer (the main enemy in the game) has a personality of their own that you'll get the chance to hear as you approach. Andrew Ryan's dialogue is diabolically placed and will have your blood boiling in no time at all.
On the other side of the coin there's Metroid's voice acting, and while it's solid, it simply can't compete with what BioShock is offering. Some of the NPCs' (non-playable characters) responses feel very canned and are repeated often, and that detracts from the overall wow factor of the game. The effects stand up nicely to 2K's game, both of which bring plenty of explosions and projectile weapons. One aural area where Metroid reigns supreme - just barely - is in the score. You can't help but get a feeling of inspired awe when walking into a few of the battles in Corruption, and the methodical musical opus that runs throughout even the most stagnant of scenes is downright enthralling. Don't misunderstand us, BioShock has created an awesome array of tracks, but there are few that spawn the kind of emotional response that you get from Metroid's.
The controls are another facet that should be at least mentioned in the discussion of immersion, largely thanks to the advent of the Wii and its motion-based control schemes. Metroid obviously wins out here because of the fact that you feel more attached and in control of Samus in some situations - like moving her hand to contort levers and push buttons - than you ever do to your character in BioShock.
So which of the two is more immersive in the end? In a word, BioShock. The world of Metroid is awesome and the diversity between the various planets is great to see along with the awesome controls, but the original world of Rapture and the feeling that the utopian society instills in players is unmatched.
Advancing the Genre
As any good gamer will tell you a game can combine the awesome elements from the best of the FPS genre, but without offering anything truly original will likely be lost in the annals of gaming before long. Both BioShock and Metroid add a good bit to the first-person shooter genre, but do so in entirely different ways. First there's BioShock, where players can swap a host of awesome powers and tonics in and out throughout the game, thus creating a different gameplay experience depending on your given style. Metroid offers a slightly similar dynamic, but chances are that at the end of the game all players will have the same armaments as one another. Where Corruption adds to the genre is in its controls. Finally we get a first-person shooter that controls well on Nintendo's Wii. You can circle-strafe, lock onto enemies, and jump around all at the same time without losing your bearings. Are they the best FPS controls on any console? No, but they're just as good as the dual analog alternative and that's a huge achievement for the Wii. The only knock against Metroid is the fact that it's the third installation in the Prime series, and so many of the techniques we've seen before, even if it was on a different system.
BioShock takes this round because it takes what we've seen from the FPS genre and turns it not completely onto its head, but onto its side by adding awesome RPG elements in a way that fits perfectly into the overall feeling of the world. Metroid does a great job of adapting FPS gameplay to the Wii, but that doesn't push the entire genre forward in a truly substantial way.
Art Design
The two worlds that BioShock and Corruption create are totally dissimilar from one another. One has you confined to an underwater society overridden by genetically enhanced, drug-addicted mutants, and the other has you traversing different worlds via spaceship and battling against aliens. Again, we've got to side with BioShock for its originality in overall design. The feeling of 1930s art deco is sold perfectly within the world of Rapture without shoving down your throat the fact that you're playing in a world that existed decades ago.
The enemies in BioShock will somehow have you sympathizing with them as you beat them to a pulp. You can look at their mangled faces and listen to their exasperated pleas for help and you really do feel their pain. Metroid provides a more detached feeling with its enemies as you mainly take on faceless aliens that disintegrate right after you kill them. All of the enemies follow that rule except for Dark Samus, the one character that does evoke a bit of emotion in the player. Nonetheless, the award for better art design stays with Ken Levine's masterpiece.

and the rest sorry there was too much
The Overall Experience
First of all, before we crown an overall winner, I have a confession to make. Metroid Prime 3 is the first Prime game that I've played. After picking up the Wii controller and getting totally wrapped up in the world of Samus Aran in Corruption, I had to go back and play the first of the Prime games to see how far the series had come. Sadly that lead me to the largest of Corruption's problems when being compared with BioShock: Corruption is a fantastic gameplay experience that everyone should try for themselves, but it doesn't differentiate itself from the previous Prime games enough. The visual differences are essentially indiscernible and the gameplay is essentially the same aside from a few requisite additions that have been put in place. The biggest change is its flawless adaptation to the Wii's control scheme, and it should be rewarded for that.
BioShock on the other hand is unlike any other first-person shooter on Xbox 360. It effortlessly blends RPG elements with some awe-inspiring action and movie-quality storytelling. At the end of the day, when the dust has settled and both of these games have been shelved in favor of greener gaming pastures, it will be BioShock that sticks out in everyone's mind.

I agree with IGN, nice work by them.
Metroid is the same classic formula redone with wii gimmick controls.
Bioshock is fresh take on an FPS

I'll comment on two points:
First, I never considered MP to be a FPS. Yes, it's in the first-person and yes, shooting does occur. But the emphasis is different. Precision in shooting is way different (locking on a target vs. aiming) and MP plays to the exploration aspect that's been with the series since the beginning.
Secondly:
Metroid is the same classic formula redone with wii gimmick controls.
I've never heard the Wii's MP controls referred to as gimmicky. Just looking at the article, you see this:

Overall, I think they're both great games. I never liked the controls for FPS games on console systems. I still prefer the KB/mouse... but MP3's controls are very nice... and Bioshock is just awesome in it's own right.

I know , I've always loved the Metroid games but i think this one will be the last one besides im tired of beating Ridley over and over and over.Bioshock on the other hand is a fresh game bringing some new gameplay and ideas that have never been in any other game before so 2 thumbs up for Bioshock :)

I finished Bioshock and I'm playing Metroid right now and I think I can say that Bioshock is the winner, definitely. While Metroid is a very good game, it just can't create such an atmosphere as Bioshock. Also Metroid doesn't give us something new.
Bioshock had environments as well as gameplay never seen before. I mean, yeah, Metroid has Wiimote controls, but that's not really anything new by now. It's a Wii game after all. And I actually have to admit, I think it's easier to play with a normal Controller, I still find it hard to turn around quickly with the Wiimote.

BioShock is much better imo... I've played both and I've been a Metroid fan since the original... don't get me wrong Corruption is a great game but BioShock is an epic game and is so original... they're both great but BioShock is simply amazing in everyway it can be

Bioshock is probably a bit better but I love them both, absolutely incredible games.

This is the most idiotic thing I've ever heard. The "gimmicky controls" rival keyboard and mouse setup and completely annihilate thumbstick crap. Seriously, pointing and aiming feels better for well aiming than moving your thumb around a stick, not too mention it makes more sence. Metroid 3 is largely considered to have the best controls out of all console FPSs, thats not a gimmick.
When the far superior FPS controls of Metroid are still being considered gimmicky its proof that people just want to blindly bash the Wii, Pathetic bandwagoners.

Who consider Metroid having the best FPS controls ever created? I mean, I have only played 2 hours so far, but I have massive problems with the Wiimote controls. I find it difficult to revolve an enemy, it's easier when you have locked him on, but then he seems to have locked onto you too and is shooting directly at you and you can't really dodge it.
And sometimes it's totally weird, because when you have locked onto an enemy you can strafe left and right but you can't really go in cicles anymore which makes dodging more difficult again.
I don't think that those controlls are as perfect as some people say they are.
Like I said, I can control my character better with a normal controller, which means, I can play Bioshock better.

IGN (9.5/100)
It plays better than any first-person console game ever... really. And it's one of Wii's best lookers, too.
Game Informer (95/100)
"Corruption isn't just the best-looking Wii game to date; it's the best Metroid Prime game period. This is due in large part to the fluid controls. The highly debated, stubborn lock-on aiming system has been replaced with something far better. You can finally look around while moving by aiming the Wii remote."
1UP (90/100)
" On the whole, Corruption takes advantage of the Wii's biggest strength (with its unique controls), and minimizes its greatest weakness (through astounding art direction), while otherwise maintaining or improving upon the high standards and overall polish the series is known for."
================================================== =================
My point is the controls aren't gimmicky, they are solid controls for FPS. Thumbstick aiming is terrible, I'll deal with it for great games like Bioshock or Gears but it really is terrible compared to kb/m and now the Wiimote.
I think the lock-on thing is just your personal preference everyone else seems to love it, keep in mind you can turn it into a normal lock-on in the menu settings.

I'm defending the Wii from mindless bandwagoners, just using Metroid as an example. If anything I'm a Bioshock fanboy, I've been following it for a year and half, I display my Big Daddy toy proudly on my entertainment center, and Its also the main reason I got a 360 last year.
Coldplayer, I have to ask you did set the sensitivity to "Advanced" right? Anything less plays more like Red Steel which is crap.

Yeah, I have, but only for a short time now. First I played on Standard. I haven't noticed much difference, but I haven't probably played long enough with the Advanced mode. So, maybe it will be better, but still... naaahh... Bioshock rules everything :p
