i beat the game on hard, every song on the setlist, and it said something about a gold something. i thought you had to beat hard to get the gold Guitar icon? need some help here

yes that is the way it is suppose to go. However everyone in your band must be on hard to get it. If one person is on medium even if you were on hard, you will not receive the icon

medium for reverse icon
expert for platinum

beat solo on medium or above for golden instrument
beat bonus set on medium or above for silver instrument

beat hall of fame gig for clear instruments

so is the solo tour the endless setlist or what? im confused

At the end of the Band World Tour (Not Solo Tour, you need at least 1 friend for BWT, or guitar AND vocal capabilities) you get to play the Endless Setlist. You need 600 stars for this. It's a setlist of all 58 songs in the game. Every player gets an icon based on the lowest difficulty among them. So if you and your friend play, you're on expert but your bud's on hard, you both get gold icons. But you better prepare, it's a little more than 5 hours for a perfect run. And you lose 15,000 fans at each failure.

I think the medium icon's pretty cool, i'd rather have it over the gold/plat icons. but I'm too far above medium to stay awake for 58 songs.

No, it's only the 58 songs that came on the game disc.

And as for the OP, when you finished your Solo Tour, it told you that you now have a gold instrument available. Gold drum kit, gold guitar, gold mic, depends which one you were playing. It usually helps to actually read the screen before hitting the Continue button :)

The gold icon that other people are talking about is from Band World Tour.
