i'm convinced that its the wireless. i've ran testers all over the power connectors and the strummer, and they are all getting power, but this is what happens...

i play all week and its fine, then on the weekend when i have friends over it decides to do this. and its like 3 weeks in a row now.

i play for a few songs and the guitar is fine, rocked out with my buddy for a good hour, then all of a sudden, the guitar craps out and sends no signal to the usb adaptor. in the middle of playing, the light starts flashing on the dongle and i lose signal, on screen the last note you hit stays active and lit, but no other button works. the strum doesnt work, the little button to reset the guitar to the ps3 doesnt work, the ps3 logo doesnt work NOTHING.

the ONLY way to get the guitar back it to turn it off and back on. then it may work for about 5 notes and then crap out in the same way.

i thought it was the batteries, but after playing with the guitar open, and testing at the same time, i know its not the batteries. got a 12 pack of fresh, and 6 rechargeables. power is good.

has this happened to anyone? and do you know how to get further testing on the circuitry to troubleshoot this?

or should i RMA this?

thanks for any help.

My guitar does that too, but only when the mic is plugged in.

It's RF. If it was bluetooth, you wouldn't need a dongle.

bluetooth? Thats pretty high tech for a guitar controller...

It's 2.4 ghz wireless, not bluetooth. You could be getting interference from coordless phones, other wireless controllers, and wireless networks which all can use the 2.4 ghz bands.

AH HA!!!! ok. so i've got a linksys 2.4g router that the ps3 is hooked up to wirelessly. i don't use my craptop anymore as its built in wireless died about 4 years ago.

so if i wire up the ps3 with cat5 and kill the wireless signal coming off the router, that SHOULD fix the problem. correct?

i figured this thing was bluetooth since there are no IR sensors or eyes on any part, guitar or dongle.

thanks guys. i'll try this and let you know.

ok so its not the router interfering with the guitar, i turned off the wireless, and ran a cat5 cable to the playstation. the guitar worked fine for half of GGHT and then in the 2nd solo it crapped out on me again.

so i changed the batteries which were brand new, and the guitar worked for about another 2 minutes.

then it all went straight to crap. standing beside the dongle even didnt help. the guitar would work for maybe 6 seconds, then crap out on me again. i sat in practice mode with The Outlaws going on loop, and i could not get more then 15 notes before the guitar would die.

i'm confused and angry now.

does anyone have any other suggestions?

i've got a 900mhz phone on a cradle in the same room, i doubt that would affect it when its sitting there charging.

ok. so i just hung out with The Outlaws again in the practice room and got about 50 notes into the solo then the guitar died again. but this time i pressed the dongle key button to reset the connection... its not that thats faulty, because when i hit it, the screen said "please connect controller 1" then i turned the guitar on and off again and pressed green, back in the game for about 5 seconds.

so i know its not the dongle and it IS something in the guitar thats faulty.

i also did 2 other tests. high fret finer tapping, and strumming. didnt matter what i did, it still crapped out on both.

are there actual tech support people in this forum or is it all user based?

there are a couple EA representatives on this forum, but essentially it's user base, your best bet is to go to the support site, submit a ticket, or call their support for some troubleshooting, and at worse, RMA for a new guitar.

Yep, my neighbors bought RB for the PS3 this past weekend and had exactly the same problem you're having; their guitar just randomly disconnects from the dongle. Doesn't matter what kind of batteries (alkaline or rechargeable) and it's pretty sporadic. Sometimes it'll work for a few songs, sometimes it'll only for a few seconds.

They don't have to turn their guitar on/off, it will eventually reconnect. I recommended they RMA it. They tried to take it back to Circuit City but the lady there basically told them to get bent and mentioned something about a "pink sheet" in the box

i'm thinking of RMAing this thing now. i'm just annoyed by it, and i've got the patience of a saint. but this has gotten to me.

i'll still RMA it and get a new one, but is it worth buying these Nyko guitars?

I've had 5 RB Strats now for the PS3 and haven't had one do what you're describing. I'm assuming it's pretty rare. The Nyko guitar that is available right now is for GH3 only, it won't work with RB. The one that'll do both is supposed to come out in the next month or two.

I decided to send in an RMA today for it. i was looking around for any place that sells strats alone, aka ebay, and i was wondering if its worth buying a 2nd strat while this gets fixed, then i'll have 2, OR wait till these 3rd party come out and get 2 of them and deal with the strat later. but ahh well, my 4 day weekend is over so i'll just RMA it and kill time working in the week ;)

I also started experiencing this issue as well. Just a run down as the thread doesn't specify what particular strats are faulting and what are not. I have 2 RB1 strats and they work fine, other than a bit beat up from constant use.

I just purchased a RB3 Mad Catz Fender strat (we have a pro, keyboard, pro drums, 3 mics etc.) and only have had issues with the RB1 guitars getting mixed up with each other if one had batteries that were weak.

The RB3 Mad Catz guitar is doing just what you described. Sadly, we took it to a party and it decided to start doing this. I did notice if you do hit the reset on the dongle, the indicator light stays out for quite some time (even if you unplug it and re-plug it in). As this is only just a week old, I certainly will be calling them to get it fixed or replaced but if you do happen to see this, please let me know what version of the strat you have that is giving you the grief.

Thanks.
