See? Bass is interesting!!
::sung to the tune of Ziggy Stardust:: "Stu Hamm played bass...in a rock'n'roll band."
Did I mention I just about creamed mehself there? lol. Seriously though, there almost needs to be a bass career in RB. Being a half-way mediocre real-life bassist myself, I'm kinda disappointed, but I'm actually going to play the only thing I don't/can't do in real-life when I get RB, drumming. Plus, guitar's always fun too.

Yeah, there might be some unique bass sounds out there, but the rest are just very repetitive. Which is why I never play bass in GH besides YYZ.

to the guy who said that cliff is the bass god : maybe the bass god of metal but i'm betting you as the video two posts above mine proves, john entwistle is raping him in bass heaven. also les claypool shreds cliff's already mangled body into a million pieces.

i would challenge the idea of cliff even being the bass god of metal. maybe the best famous one, but not the best.

That Aram Bedrosian vid is trippy, for sure.
And yeah, I like Cliff, but Les, Entwistle, and Myung all slay him. I think I like listening to Geddy Lee more, actually.

Yes it does suck, and there are many bassist (too many) to say who is the best. There are many opinions.
But I'd say my favorite bassists (yes, can't just pick one) are Claypool, Wooten, Pastorius, Flea, Jones (John Paul), Martinie (Mudvayne), Geddy, Bootsy (anyone?). Mine all are from modern to past. Like I said, too many to choose from. Sure, I have a favorite. But my choice is a biased one....:)

None of those are metal...so, as I said, he is the best metal bassist IMO. Cliff destroys anything I've seen posted...sorry...

HP, thanks for posting those videos. Hopefully people will watch them and see why John was rated as the bassist of the millenium by 5 separate magazines (Rolling Stone, Bass Player, and a couple others that I can't remember).
Here's hoping for bass quick play. That's the one thing I really hated about GH II, you had to go into practice mode to play bass on your own. Boring scenary!

He's my #1 influence as a bassist, The entire band was an inspiraion to me as I try to fly like Pete, entertain like Keith and Rog, and well, not play bass like John, because very, very few people can reach even half of his level.

It makes me sad because the drums are basically the same thing over and over again, then a quick 5 sometimes 10 second fill, aka solo. So if bass is repetitive, so are drums, so why are drums have a career in the game and not bass?
I mean look, Flea has a great song in Rock Band already, (RHCP bassist for those who don't know his nickname) and Are you Gonna Be My Girl from Jet STARTS off with the bass. I mean come on, repetitive or not. If people don't want to play bass then why are so many people playing bass in the bands in rock band?
And honestly.. I really don't want to play the guitar/drum/vocal career just to be able to play bass in quick play.. To me, I think HMX pulled a popularity poll based on instruments..
I guess you can tell I was/still is, mad about no bass career. v_v

Well, the drums are novel, and the most repetative drum line is still more 'interesting' than straight 1/4 or 1/8 notes.
I think both have the same mindset as being a medic in an FPS. You aren't doing the work, but you're making what everyone else does better. Just changing the drum line a little bit can change the whole feel (3's and 7's where he goes from 1/8 hi-hat to 1/4 splashes). He's not soloing, but it makes the song sound better as a whole. I think once people open up and look at what the other instruments are doing they'll realize just how cool some of those little things can make a song.

I think his point was that it's ******ed to have drums have a solo mode when they're repetitive as all hell and then say bass is too repetitive for a solo mode, they should've just put in a solo for all instruments, no one's forced to play the mode they don't want. And those of us that enjoy the bass would be able to play a solo career mode of it. Option is always great, restriction almost never is.

Did they ever say "Repetative"? I always thought they said that bass is too "simplistic" to have a career.
