View Full Version : USB problems on PS3 - Drums

I have a strange and rather annoying problem with the USB connection on my PS3. It ONLY affects the Drumkit which makes it even stranger. Most of the time (98%) my PS3 simply doesn´t recognize the drums. The drums are getting power since the PS-Button is lit but it doesn´t register as being connected. Changing through the various ports (I have the 60Gb version with 4 ports) doesn´t help besides about 1-2% of the time, but you have to Reboot the system each time. Suddenly the Drums are connected and they function without any problems at all - so I am guessing no loose connections which would probably cause them to loose the connection while playing. They function 100% once they are connected. I tried connecting them to my labtop, to rule out the Drums being faulty and they were registered immediatly by Windows!? I have tried a powered external USB Hub to see if it might be a lack of power to the drums - but no luck. They simply wont connect 98-99% of the time. Only way is to change USB ports for 30-45 mins and suddenly they are picked up by the console and they work flawlessly until the system is powered down again. No other periphal has caused any problems and they can connect to any USB port on the PS3 - Anyone got ANY ideas??

I know that if you hold down the foot pedal the drums don't work right for navigating normal (non-Rock Band) PS3 menus.... I don't think that's your problem though.

Zola, you answered your own question...
You said everything else works fine in all the usb ports right?
Then it must be defective drums....
Call a buddy, get their drums over, and see what's up....
I have a different problem, my drums are cutting out
and bringing me to the please reconnect drums screen, but
I just have to hit continue, and they're there... Weird...

I am not so sure because, as I wrote, the drums connect to a PC right away,no problems at all..and the drums work fine once connected to my PS3. But you are right in the sense that the drums / my PS3 combo is to blame somehow. Everything else works fine in all the usb ports correct.
But I will try to swap drums with a friend and see what happens. My drums in his PS3 and vice versa -

Well, I brought my drums to my brothers house and tried them out on his system - turns out they donīt work on his PS3 either - well to be exact, they do work if you just replace his drums with mine while the PS3 is turned on? Maybe some driver issue?? Dunno, but after a reboot, my faulty drums didnt work on his system either. I borrowed his drums to test out on my PS3 and they worked just fine = My drums are faulty and I will get some new ones.
