I need a suggestion of a good Horror or Gore movie, goin on a date with a guy who loves them.. I dont want anything really popular (no SAW, Hostel, etc)... but something that is pretty damn scary or gorey. Any suggestions?

Can't go wrong with Evil Dead. Cult classic right there. If you want more gore, go with Dead Alive also known as "Braindead".

Well, I was going to say Hostel, but looks like you "pre-said" no to that. However, I think you should reconsider, I've never seen the theatrical version, only unrated, but that version is pretty good. However, the first half it pretty much pr0n, then the second half is all gore.

Shawn of the Dead is a sort of paraody/comedy zombie movie. It's still got the gore, but it's abolutely hilarious. Even people who don't like gorey movies can enjoy it.

I never saw too many Horror movies, but the 200X remake of Dawn of the Dead was awesome (I put X at the end because I dont know which year it was, but it's pretty recent.)

The remake of the first The Hills Have Eyes was pretty gory. The Hills Have Eyes 2 was a terrible movie but the first remake was really good.

Seen Shawn of the dead, own evil dead.. not too much into zombie films but I have seen all of the day/dawn of the dead movies inlcuding the remakes... I guess i'm looking for something non mainstream that maybe I havent seen yet. Just saw the Hitcher last week, that was a good one to see if no one has seen that remake yet. Sean Bean is genius in it.
edit: PS hills have eyes is my lead candidate so far.. heard that one was pretty decently gorey and was recommended by several people to me so far.

Are you calling Evil Dead mainstream? If so, that's a first for me.
Have you seen 28 days later? I don't know if that's mainstream or not. It's at least not american mianstream...

Most of the people I know have seen Evil Dead due to the popularity of Army of Darkness. Didnt see 28 days later, everyone that I knew who had seen it didnt have anything good to say about it.

Neat, I don't think I've lived anywhere where Army of Darkness/Evil Dead was popular. My freinds and I all know of them, but outside of that most people around here have never ehard of Bruce Campbell. I don't know if you saw the movie Bubba Hotep he was in a while back, but that one was extremely campy - I loved it.

maybe its just a Nebraska thing, but nearly everyone here loves Army of Darkness. Didnt see Bubba Hotep though, my stepfather owns it so I suppose I could always borrow it from him

I just saw Halloween (Rob Zombie's), and I will tell you something. I liked his better than the original. I hate Zombie's flicks, they were stupid and full of nonsense. However, his remake of Halloween was very well done. The storyline was a lot deeper.

Faust: Love of the Damned is plenty gorey and has a really kickass soundtrack. (Fear Factory,Nailbomb,Soulfly,Cradle of Filth,Sepultura,Coal Chamber)
Lost Highway is one of my favs but kind of lacking on the gore. More of the pyschological stuff. Yet again a kickass soundtrack. (Rammstein,NIN,Marylin Manson who actually has a cameo in the movie,David Bowie)
Dee Snider's Strangeland. Not gorey but the violence is...intresting and another kickass soundtrack. (Dee Snider of course,Pantera,Sevendust,Megadeth,Antrhax)

The original Black Christmas was awesome. Hmm, Cabin Fever had some gore to it. Not the greatest though. I think Dead and Breakfast was supposed to be an american answer to Shawn of the Dead, didn't live up to Shawn as i'm told. Either Rob Zombie movie: House of 1,000 Corpses or Devil's Rejects. Jacob's Ladder was good. Suspiria was good. Hah, Toolbox Murders was silly.
I dunno couple possibilities i pulled off my movie list.

I second House of 1000 Corpses, or the Devils Rejects.
Keep in mind the oldies but goodies...A Nightmare on Elm Street (1 or 2)
Silent Hill was great! The first Resident Evil was good (dont compare game movies to the game)
The remake of The Amityville Horror was stunning!
The Remake or Texas Chainsaw Massacre is great!
Good Luck!

the evil dead is the only tr00 horror movie i ever enjoyed. i watch em when they're on hbo (other horror/gory movies) only to laugh at how absurd and insanely moronic they are, but the evil dead is the way to go!!!
also if you count the shining as horror (which i don't) than its obviously the best horror movie evor made.

Thank you SO much for the suggestions! I have so many to chose from right now.
The ones I've personally seen so far and liked were:
Evil Dead 1&2 and Army of Darkness
Frailty
The Hitcher (not sure if it falls in this category or not)
House of 1000 corpses & Devil's Rejects
Hostel (I missed the second one in theaters, comes out Oct. 23rd on DVD)
Turistas (just a Hostel rip off)
and ya can't go wrong with anything to do with George Ramero

Everyone you know is an idiot- 28 Days Later is fantastic.
And DFK is absolutely correct, Dead Alive is a riot. But make sure you get the unrated version. There's a toned-down R rated version out there that is totally lame.

And of course there is always The Exorcist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Exorcist_%28film%29). Oh, Oh, Oh, I know. Bram Stokers Dracula (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bram_Stoker%27s_Dracula). If you have them available at your movie rental thing-a-majigy, rent some of the Masters Of Horror (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masters_Of_Horror) shorts. They are about an hour long and some of them are really good and some are cheesy. I recommend Cigarette Burns (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cigarette_Burns).
There is the classic Re-Animator (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Re-Animator).
Rainbow and the Serpent (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Serpent_and_the_Rainbow) is an freaking A awesome movie as well.
You are guaranteed a good time with any of these flicks.

Ichi the Killer isn't horror though. Audition or 3 Extremes would be. Guess I'm not human but I will say the first of those 3 Extremes seemed rather...unnecessary but that wasn't Miike's part.

Yeah i heard Audition was good - its on sale at bestbuy for 5 dollars LOL. We watched some movie about a serial killer, i forgot the name.. he said one of the cops from The Devils Rejects was in the movie, I'll have to spend some time tonight on IMDB and see what the title was (it was The something.. like that really helps me :( )

We'll see if there's another one. He suggested we watch Re-Animator next time, he said that was a good one he wanted to watch. he has a freaking huge collection, probably 100+ horror and gore movies, so I guess we are set for awhile, if there is another date. That's a whole nother story, but i got my fingers crossed.

Sorry to side track this thread but I can't believe how many great band names are listed there. Not just great band names for good bands but even great band names for terrible bands. Beware! Children at play made me think of a Panic! at the disco cover band, Curse Of The Cannibal Confederates would be great for a southern rock act and the best one of all ...I can't even pick just one.

Hrmm.. maybe I'll watch 28 Days Later. I liked the first, but the different director put me off.
I know the date is done and gone, but Cronos and The Devil's Backbone (both by Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth)) is pretty good.

I'll have to check them out... My date said i have a stronger stomach than he does. He said that Henry : PoaSK gave him some weird nightmares and just left him with a bad feeling afterwards. Me.. meh. just a movie. Although, funny enough, when I left my work yesterday, it was 6am, still dark outside, i get to my car and see a shadow casting over me from my side window. Just a street light peeking through tree leaves. Scared the **** out of me though.

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer is incredible. With that said, here are some splatter flicks that I wholeheartedly recommend:
Cannibal Holocaust (Deodato, 1979)
Brain Damage (Henenlotter, 1988)
Opera (Argento, 1987)
The Beyond (Fulci, 1981)

Well, in terms of pure immoral nastiness, it's difficult to top. It really is a diseased film, but fascinating due to the director's attempt at forced social critique. So if that's what you're looking for by all means watch it. But if you really love animals...

yeah, if there's animal cruelty, i cannot watch it. I'm immune to most gore (like i said, he said his first time watching Henry was hard, for me, it was nothing)... but I once saw a video of a couple guys stuffing a cat in a small ass cage and set it on fire. I threw up immediatly. I just cant handle animal cruelty. thanks for the warning thats for sure

^If memory serves (and it usually doesn't) I believe Cannibal Holocaust was place on the british "Video Nasty" list because it depicted actually animal deaths (an alligator and...a muskrat?). Socks is absolutely right, though.

I didnt really want to make a new thread for this question, so I figured I would post it here.
Im looking for horror/thriller movies that are set in Louisiana/Haitti.
I love The Serpent and The Rainbow, and Angel Heart. If you have seen those movies, you should know what im talking about.
