Would Queensryche's - Operation Mindcrime album be great DLC for a full Album? I think this would be a blast to play with a group of people. Your thoughts?

The whole album would rock. This needs to be an album download with the short BS songs just added to the previous/next songs on the album.

I agree! I just wish we could sort out the song list in quickplay to be by band only to make playing this work better.

Man, How cool would it be to play Mindcrime in it's entirety on RB. My vote is 100% YES!!!!!!

Yeah! That'd be awesome. So, with the talking parts and instrumentals interwoven with the main songs the setlist would look something like this:
1. I Remember Now/Anarchy X/Revolution Calling
2. Operation: Mindcrime
3. Speak
4. Spreading the Disease
5. The Mission
6. Suite Sister Mary
7. The Needle Lies
8. Electric Requiem/Breaking the Silence
9. I Don't Believe in Love
10. Waiting for 22/My Empty Room/Eyes of a Stranger
That wouldn't be too shabby of a list. Everything would be a blast for vocals and it's surely got some good guitaring/bass/drums. Hopefully when the full album downloads come out there will be some sort of option to play an entire album through it's entirety without being in Band World Tour. I know a bunch of my friends would love playing Operation: Mindcrime but wouldn't really want to commit to BWT. I really hope they'd leave some of the talking story bits in too, I'm a bit partial to them, but I'd happily take Operation: Mindcrime without them.

I love the album. I also think that if it does get put in the game it would have to be a full album download. Unfortunately, I'm not sure it flows in a way that would be fun for all instruments (I should give it another listen, paying attention to that sort of thing).
edit: I like the idea of combining tracks so that none of the "songs" are missing instruments.

It seems to me that if RB were to do any great concept album, and Mindcrime is number one in my book, they'd have to have full artist support along with new visuals.
Imagine playing the songs with the original animation running on the screen, band logos, lasers and Geoff Tate's between song banter giving your fingers, wrists and vocal chords a break.
It's not likely to happen but I think a concept album needs special treatment.
I still vote yes to any and all Queensryche up to and including Empire.

I absolutely love the idea of albums like Operation: Mindcrime (or Tommy or Purple Rain) getting special treatment. I picture a whole mode devoted to the album like a BWT, with special graphics during the songs and cut scenes between them. [OMG AWESOME][Wets pants]

I would suggest for anyone and everyone to listen to Queensryche. For some reason this is a great band that a ton of people have never heard of. And, yes, Operation Mindcrime or anything from Queensryche would be awesome on Rock Band.

I'm in agreement with the special treatment for albums, it'd be amazing to have special animations and visuals to go with the album - it'd be a blast seeing Operation: Mindcrime enacted via Rock Band.
It'd be really cool if there was a way to play through the entire album seemlessly, since the tracks really blend into each other pretty well. That's probably just wishful thinking, but it'd be awesome if this stuff could be incorporated some how.

If it happened, it would be the best DLC to hit the game. Depending on how the album was recorded, though, it might be hard to get suitable masters. Technology was up there in 1988, but I can't find much about the studio online.
Oh, hell, who cares? Operation: Mindcrime, yes please.

Individual Queensryche tracks would work, however (and I have been involved in this same discussion in another thread it appeared in a couple of weeks ago), I have to say Operation Mindcrime would not work as a full album DLC. The album is amazing, I've seen it performed live on stage twice in the last 5 years (and will be seeing the 3 hour Mindcrime 1 and 2 show this June), but a lot of people might get confused by a few of the tracks, based on the fact that some of them do rely on you knowing what has already happened in the story so far.

This is the top album and concept album I would like to see on rock band and it wold work as entire album as long as the smaller fill tracks were tacked onto the main songs.
I think it would be brutally challenging, but I'm all for it. I think Mindcrime is one of the best complete albums ever done (and the live show was just phenomenal). I would absolutely pay for the whole album as DLC. Or just about anything by Queensryche, for that matter.

Add my name to the list of people that think this is a great idea. It would be a hard sell though, as most people (oddly) have never even heard of them. Still, I don't think very many people would find themselves disappointed impulse buying these tracks (or the actual album for that matter...hint, hint...)

That's honestly the main reason why I don't think we will ever see any Queensryche tracks. There's a certain member of the band that I think would probably ask for more money than Harmonix would be willing to shell out. Of course, this is just one man's opinion, and hopefully a wrong opinion at that.

The hair metal crowd seems to know them, though (although any time anyone calls Queensrÿche a hair metal band, a puppy cries), so that would be a rather...vocal proponent around these parts. :D
By the way, I'm I correct that your user name implies that you're a fellow Steven Erikson fan, or am I way off base and does it have some other origin?

Sadly you are mistaken. There was a fellow I used to be stationed with in Las Vegas that, on numerous occasions, tried to convince me to read "The Malazan Book of the Fallen". However, I have yet to find myself a copy. So many books left to read and all that.
I took the name from the common mispronunciation of the Algonquin trickster god, Wìsakedjàk. Humorously, another book, "American Gods" was what brought the name to my attention.
Now, back on topic...

Heheh, yeah I'm not sure how they would feel with that label. Still, have you seen the video for Queen of the Ryche? Even Bon Jovi was jealous of their locks.
Most people that have heard their music seem to like them. However, they have unfortunately become one of those bands that have been lost in the sands of time.

Take up your buddy's advice, then... the Malazan books are a great read.
American Gods is fantastic too. Part of my university thesis was about Gaiman's use of mythology in his works, and I even got a one on one interview with the man out of it. Goods times.

They're not mainstream anymore, but they still have quite a loyal fan following. Their 'Operation Mincrime 1+2' world tour (several hours of back-to-back Mindcrime goodness) was quite a success, as far as I know.

Hmm, I may have to add them to my "Books I hopefully plan to read in my lifetime" list. Honestly, I need to get over my yearly Raymond Chandler love affair before hand. As for the Gaiman interview...I just want you to know that I hate you (but maybe I'm just jealous).

The shows are incredible. Easily one of the best concerts I have seen in a long time. Sadly (or happily, depending on how you look at it), they seem to have more of a fan base outside of the continental United States. They are still quite big in Japan and various parts of Europe.

Probably doesn't affect their decision too much, unless one of the devs are trying to find some leverage to convince the others that Queensryche DLC would be a great idea.
Though I would love a full album, I would settle for a three pack DLC. Just something to calm the shakes....

I would love to see this album in full as DLC. I think it would be awesome for RB3 maybe include something like 'Jet City Woman' or anything off of 'Rage for Order' on the disc in order to get people to get the DLC when its released. As of now putting it up would be a hard sell for a lot of people. 'Screaming for Vengeance' and 'Peace Sells..." worked well as DLC because both bands have been on Guitar Hero.

Not really. I know a few of the band members enjoy Guitar Hero, as well as Rock Band, so they are aware of the genre's existence. Might just come down to Harmonix have yet to inquire about them.
I checked with the EMI Music Publishing Website (Queensryche's publisher from 1983 to 1997. http://www.emimusicpub.com/worldwide/music/catalog_jtf_hard-rock-and-heavy-metal-songs.html) and they've given their consent on quite a few of the bands they handle/have contracts with (I.E. Motorhead, Megadeth, Judas Priest, etc.) So, who knows?

Quick bit of information. Queensryche is coming to the end of the last leg of their current tour. They have two shows scheduled for this weekend in Reno (Saturday) and in Las Vegas (Sunday). I highly recommend seeing them in Vegas, as the House of Blues has proven to be a great venue for them.

Would it be wrong to suggest that, such as they're doing with the AC/DC live tracks... they, instead... make a full album DLC of LiveCrime? Cause ****... my two favorite live videos (both of which I had on VHS when they first came out, and later updated to DVD)are easily Operation LiveCrime and Oingo Boingo's Farewell...
if you ask me, there's an energy in the live performance of Mindcrime that transcends the studio version...

I've been wailing since GH1 (and hey, even Karaoke Revolution) that we NEED some 'Ryche in a music game. As a singer, I learned a lot from watching Geoff Tate as I was growing up. And damn if singing "Painkiller" doesn't make me pine for some EP or Warning-era goodness. Even on talky bits in other songs I find myself slipping into Tate-style stage voice.
So. ONE HUNDRED PERCENT OH MY GOD YESSSSS on Mindcrime/Livecrime as a full album. I'll agree - I enjoy Livecrime more for its energy. I'll also wholeheartedly agree on combining the shorter songs in with following songs.
Also. TAKE HOLD OF THE FLAME, plzkthx. This song is SO much fun to wail on, especially the high note at the end of the first bit.
Others I'd love to see: Jet City Woman, Empire, I Am I, My Global Mind, The Lady Wore Black, Walk in the Shadows, Open, anything else from The Warning, and their version of Heaven on Their Minds. I'm not particularly excited about Silent Lucidity - while I love the song, it's not as rockin' as I like to play on this game. I'll take any I can get, though!

I'm all for Queensryche in RB2. I've been a fan of theirs for years, and to play Mindcrime in its entirety would be too much fun.
Using the performance from Livecrime is a cool idea. The vocals would be a bit easier, since Geoff Tate doesn't go for all the high notes from the album. The Needle Lies is much faster on Livecrime too.

I swear dude you read my mind!
Queensryche is awsome and is perfect for rock band. the whole entire reason i logged on here today was to suggest queensryche. Personally, if they do put them on rock band (PLEASE HARMONIX!) the two i wouldn't wait to play would be The Needle Lies and Speak. The intro for speak would be awsome on guitar, and the drums on the needle lies are pretty sweet too. Plus the singer is insane, so even i, someone who can imitate a voice worth crap and doesnt sing that much, would get a few kicks from doing vocals on some of these songs.
( and for those pecentage of people who WOULDN'T want 'Ryche on rock band need to clean out their ears and start listening to some good music :p)

Mindcrime in Rock Band would work so well simply because all the parts are fun, interesting and just flat-out stellar. Even people that aren't Queensryche fans would find something to like in these tunes, be it vocals, guitars, bass or drums. There's just so much to sink your teeth into.
The hardcores would pick up the entire album, while the more casuals just might settle for a couple tunes, like Eyes of a Stranger, I Don't Believe in Love or Revolution Calling. Either way, we need Queensryche in Rock Band!!

Bringing this thread back up for three reasons; to give some love and respect for the 'ryche, get some attention 'cause we need some of their music for the game (!!), and to show off a little support with a custom T-shirt I just made in-game that I'm extremely happy with...

Hell Yes, I just listened to this album today and would love this album as DLC! Although i would also like to mention a few of my favorites that arent on that albium like "Silent Lucidity" and "Suite Sister Mary"
Except that Suite Sister Mary *is* on the album...
Quensryche is my favorite band, and I've long stated that if they came out for DLC I would purchase a 360 or PS3 just to have access. (I currently have the PS2 version only.)
Operation: Mindcrime or Empire in their entirety would be amazing, but I'd be happy with any tracks. If the Ryche are (understandably) wishing to focus on their current offerings, American Soldier would be a great addition too. Don't know how the whole album would pan out, but a pack of the following songs would be extraordinary:
Hundred Mile Stare
At 30,000 Ft.
A Dead Man's Words
The Killer
Middle of Hell
Man Down!
P.S.: Anyone who hasn't checked out the band in a while really needs to hear American Soldier.

Queensryche 'Rules' definetly must have the entire 'Operation Mindcrime' dlc as well as 'Take Hold of The Flame'. One of the most underrated '80's/90's rock bands out there; But probably one of the best Rock bands of their time.We Want our Queensryche Soon!!!!!!!!!

If we couldn't get anything off of Operation: Mindcrime or Empire (which would be a major shame), then I would suggest at least these three songs.
The Lady Wore Black (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WMOQ_8yZN4)
Take Hold of the Flame (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUrnCLWqmzA)
Walk in the Shadows (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ogb0NF6vXY)
Geoff Tate would be a challenge for even the best vocalists.

Queensryche - the Prophecy
Rage for Order - the Whisper, Neue Regel
Empire - pretty much everything

Hopefully with the release of RBN, there's a better chance that we'll see Queensryche in Rock Band sooner rather than later. And since their older stuff is on EMI, I would like to say right now that I will pay $3 per song for any Queensryche, without thinking twice about it.
Next month is my birthday and I plan to crack the bottle of Geoff Tate's "Insania" wine that I've been saving. Good times.

Yes, Operation: Mindcrime would be awesome. "I Don't Believe In Love" is on my RB3 setlist, and always will be unless Queensryche comes out with a better album or it comes out on Rock Band.
And, while I'm here I might as well say that merging tracks would work even better on Blind Guardian's epic Nightfall in Middle-Earth or A Night At the Opera (actually the latter wouldn't need song merges, it would just be really epic)

As much as I love Queensryche, I sadly believe their best albums are behind them. The last few albums have had great moments, but nothing that even comes close to stuff like O:MC, Promised Land, Rage for Order, Empire, The Warning or the EP.

listen. they need queensryche. thats the only thing missing from this game. queensryche has such a variety of songs that will give players the pleasure to finally play their songs! i look at the PSN store every week waiting and hoping to see queensryche on there. but instead they bring either:
1.) same artists with different song packs.
2.) some gay bands that no one cares about.
3.) and not QUEENSRYCHE!
please please please! bring the band Queensryche into the wrold of rockband. i beg of you!

Oh believe me man, I'm a HUGE Queensryche fan and I think their newer material is still pretty great. But in a Pepsi Taste Challenge, the older material will win out every time. And that doesn't mean the new stuff is horrible, it's just that the older stuff was SO GOOD. I will say, however, that Mindcrime II (aside from the odd track here and there) can stand proudly among some of Queensryche's best albums.
Rock Band could release Queensryche's least-liked song as DLC and I'd buy the damn thing twice.
charyche, if you haven't checked it out yet, you should read a chapter of Chuck Klosterman's book "Fargo Rock City." Not only is it a fun read about the author reminiscing about his days growing up listening to 80s metal, but there's a chapter where he basically says Queensryche is the best band in the world because they were able to transition out of the 80s metal scene into what they're doing now (but still maintains that "Hear in the Now Frontier" is the worst album name ever, haha). It's a good read.
I'll be celebrating my 33rd birthday next week and Geoff Tate's Insania wine is waiting for me.

As they are one of my all-time favorites, I have to weigh in.
O:M would be an awesome album DLC. And I very much like the suggestion to have album DLC with their own venues, characters, etc.....would work with many artists / albums.
I would also love a QR 12-pack. I have two possibilities in mind:
THE GLORY YEARS (1983 - 1990):
The Lady Wore Black
NM 156
Take Hold of The Flame
Roads to Madness
Walk in the Shadows
Surgical Strike
Chemical Youth
Screaming in Digital
Best I Can
Jet City Woman
Della Brown
Anybody Listening
THE LATER YEARS
I Am I
My Global Mind
Someone Else (full band version)
Some People Fly
spOOL
The Right Side of My Mind
Open
Losing Myself
Tribe
I'm American
The Hands
Signs Say Go
I fully recognize that after Empire QR went downhill and never achieved the same heights (though I think Promisedland is highly underrated). But they do have some good songs on each of their later albums and O:M II is surprisingly good.
Regardless...ANY QR would be embraced....and O:M would be a great album DLC.

Right there with ya. Promised Land is a GREAT record, and while their later albums haven't been rock-solid, each album has its fair share of excellent tunes. Full album DLC for Mindcrime or Empire seema obvious, but Queensryche has more than enough good material since Promised Land to fill a 12-pack at the very least.

I really hope someone at Harmonix gets this thing going. This would really be killer on rockband, I think it would be a bestseller for them. I know Queensryche at this point is a cult band, has its dedicated followers and thats about it....but when they do mindcrime it brings everyone out. Case in point a few years back when they did, hugely popular and then they released the sequel, which it was not up to par with the original, but still was pretty good. But the tour they did with both Mindcrimes was phenomenal and when they released the DVD of the show, it was a bestseller. I'm just saying this would absolutely ROCK the living hell out of anyone's living room :-) Come on kids, GIVE US MINDCRIME!!!!

Mindcrime is absolutely my all-time favourite album. It's odd to think that when the album was first released, they could never perform it live in its entirety because they weren't a huge band and only had a 45-minute opening slot. It was only when they headlined in support of Empire that they were able to perform the whole thing.
Looking forward to Queensryche's new album coming out next month.

I don't know why that would be an issue. It's not like one of their songs hasn't been in a game already ("Jet City Woman" in Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock).
Yeah, I know it's not the same album, but still if they were willing to work with a gaming company before, I don't see why there would be a hangup now.

This IS the album that taught me drumming.
