If anyone knows the answer to this question, I'd be real surprised.

No no no, please don't go there and reward the people responsible for asking customers a million times per visit "Duhh you wanna reserve that? You wanna reserve that? You wanna reserve that?! You better reserve that or you'll never get a copy!" :D

Gah, too bad I'm not a manager. And it sucks because our manager doesn't even play games.

Amen! I called a local Gamestop because Warhawk was released on a Tuesday online like most media but supposedly wasn't supposed to be in retail stores until Wednesday. So I called them about 6pm on the Tuesday after work to see if they had it and they said they wouldn't have it until the next day and he still asked me if I wanted to reserve it. I was actually speechless.

I never understood why some people are so anti-reserving games.

It's not that I'm anti-reserve. I've reserved RB and GH3 both over a month ago but why would I want to reserve a game (Warhawk) that will literally be released in 6 hours?

You obviously haven't been to a gamestop then. All they do is bug you to reserve every single game coming out. It's gotten to the point where I don't bother to even shop there. I just check the Best Buy and Circuit City fliers every Sunday in the paper, and then go get the new games I want from whichever one has it the cheapest (which is always Best Buy since they pricematch everyone else in town, so basically I always shop at Best Buy).

Why am I anti-reserve? If you want me to reserve a game for free, fine, I'll do it. But why should I give you my money so that you can earn interest on it? I shouldn't. And I won't. And since Gamestop now pretty much only gets in enough games on release day to satisfy pre-orders, I avoid them like the plague. Between Circuit City, Best Buy, Toys R Us, and Target, I have more than enough outlets to get a game...without the hassle of dealing with the pre-orders pimps at Gamestop.

I reserve at a place called GameCrazy attached to Hollywood Video. They really don't pressure all that much because outside of Wal-Mart there is no other place to buy video games in a city of 100,000 people. You have to drive at least 15 minutes to get to a Best Buy, Toys R' Us, Gamestop, etc.

if you're gonna reserve a game, you always know way before you head to gamestop.
Gamers who actually want to reserve know befre they go in that they will, that's why the constant badgering sucks.

Don't shop there if you don't like it.

Well, it is part of their job to ask so. Kinda like "Would you like fries or a hot apple pie". ***** knows I'm gonna say no. But yet they still has to ask.

Exactly, they HAVE to ask, its part of the job. I think some of you are really over-reacting to this whole "pestering you to reserve". Whenever they ask me to reserve something, Its a one time question, and they can take no for an answer. Maybe I visit Gamestops that are unlike every other stores in the nation, but the 3 i go to seem pretty nice to me.

I think it all depends on the store. I go to EB Games in the mall here, and they know me by name in there. I pretty much reserve any major game so I get it day one. I'm one of their major customers. But there is a Gamespot across from Wal-Mart here, and the guys in there ALWAYS... and I mean ALWAYS tell me I need to reserve whatever it is I'm looking for because...
1) they aren't getting that many
2) they have all but one or two copies they are getting preordered already
3) it will sell out within 10 minutes of when the doors open on release day.
To top it all off, they usually don't know release dates or anything about the game I'm looking for. So I usually laugh at them, say something along the lines of "No, it comes out xx/xx/xx, and is blah blah blah. I'll take my chances at Best Buy."
Then I'll walk into Best Buy on day one at my lunch break, and pick up what I want. So I never shop from that Gamespot, usually just go in there to kill time while waiting to get a haircut. But I'll go to EB Games up here in a heart beat. They always ask me what I came to preorder, not if I want to preorder. They know I know games as good or better than them.
So it all depends on the store.

It's annoying. So the way I chose to deal with it is to never give Gamestop my money again.

I really don't understand how this thread shifted from asking if anyone from Harmonix was going to the GameStop Managers Convention (or something along those lines) to how the employees at GameStop are always hawking people to pre-order.
I've never onced been asked if I wanted to pre-order anything when I enter the door. The only time I've ever been asked if I wanted to pre-order anything was yesterday. I was pre-ordering the Halo 3 LE Xbox 360 Console and the clerk asked me if I wanted to pre-order Halo 3 as well.
It's also been said that those working at GameStop don't know release dates. So what? They work at a store where many things get released on many different days. You were focusing on one single game when you went in there, and you had the date memorized because you're super psyched to get it. They just might not be interested in that game.
So settle down folks, they're all people too. How would you like it if some random people on the Internet were to begin to insult the competence of people who worked at your place of work?

sorry about the bump...but I have fun facts :D
my store manager just sent me a text message saying that he's gonna get to play GHIII, He's gonna try to see what the final encore is. He doesn't know if RB is there, but if they are, he's gonna tell me how much fun it is, and maybe, just maybe, I might get some unreleased info? :p
Oh, and Slash is there...lucky bastard gets to meet him
I'll update if I find anything out

This only makes me wish ever more that I was a Manager at my Local EB Games.
I'm pretty sure he can't spill the beans on the game anyway.

Apparantly today was the opening ceremony type thing, so no news other than Slash had to leave early to go play a Velvet Revolver show in LA, so no autograph for me :(
but the good news is, the gamefest starts tomorrow and lasts through to thursday (i believe, my manager works on saturday, so it makes the most sense to me, thursday last day, leave friday and relax after the 5+ hour flight back, work saturday) so hopefully something then

I kinda doubt Harmonix will be there. They seem to be using much of their resources for the tour. The Manager conventions (GS/EB) are mostly for companies to show off their product to the managers and make sure they understand all that is available from them this holiday season and that they understand details about the product as well. This way they can teach their employees about it and everyone in the store will then know how to better sell what they have. Harmonix doesn't need to worry about managers understanding Rock Band. Pretty much everyone who works in video game retail already understands it and there isn't going to be any trouble selling it. The Rock Band Tour is much more important than these conventions (these = do they still have an EB Managers convention? they used to have both before the merger). I've been to both and it isn't like an expo or anything. Each company has their own room and they pitch their holiday lineup: software, peripherals, headphones, .. everything. Very business.

Think about it tho, the tour is in Vegas, so is the convention, so who knows

I'd be really surprised if someone from EA, MTV, or Harmonix were not at the conference showing off the game -- it's going on right now, someone should know. :D

They were there, we got to play a couple of songs and it was a blast! Best of all, Slash was there to present Guitar Hero 3.
Got to play Halo 3, Assassins Creed, and a bunch of other awesome games.
