Certain Steps to Connect for Online Play??

I have a 360.....

Are there certain steps or a certain screen I should be at in order to play online?

I go into Band Quickplay and pick my guy until it says "waiting" at the bottom of the screen. Then I click "Accept Invite" from the person who invites me. The screen then says "Please Wait....Loading" and it just sits there. I can't get past that screen. I then have to sign out of X-box Live and back in again. Then that person has to invite me 2-3 more times before I connect. I have tried different screens and different ways to connect so I'm wondering if there are certain steps or a certain screen I should be at.

It shouldn't matter where you are, I've accepted invites from all over the game.

From the main menu, from the results screen of a song, from the set list of solo tour, all over the place.
