18 songs?! From the Dead?

Yuck. What a waste. At least they'll be optional.

Wow. I didn't see it coming, but man that's pretty freakin cool. Reaffirms my faith in the DLC promises...if they can devote a whole pack to stoner rock, I'm sure they'll take care of the other sub-genres.

Yeah, I am Not a big "Dead Head" but Truckin' and Casey Jones will be great and Grateful Dead songs will turn heads when you are playing for sure. In fairness though if the DLC is priced right I will be powerless against downloading every song that comes out.

Also, Here is an alternative link for this story:

Anyone else getting the feeling that we're seeing the beginning of a massive wave of Rock Band info? Wheee!

Mad props to Harmonix for getting such diversity in this game....

Tsunami might be a little strong. You couldn't break these Harmonix guys with 15th century torture techniques. But I 100% agree with you I think they are getting very, very close to the "BIG" announcements of price, release date and final song list. I mean seriously what other game has not had all their info leaked out before the big wigs wanted it to be known. These guys at HMX are either scared for their lives or actually love their jobs and what they are working on.

Hooray, more track information. Another band I'm not really familiar with, but it's near impossible to go wrong with more songs.

Man, I was hoping for one dead song, this is the best news I've heard. Not to be asking too much, but depending how the improv sections work, this could be incredible.

09-05-2007, 02:43 AM
wow, this is awesome! i'm not even a dead fan by any means, but these songs will be fun as hell to play! its great to see a band of this stature already signing up to be a part of the game. this can only mean good things down the road for getting other big name bands to join up!

that reminds me, i saw on gamespot that Aerosmith is workin with neversoft on a supposed Aerosmith themed GH. i hope that doesnt mean individual bands are going to "choose sides" and be exclusive to one franchise. again, i'm not a big Aerosmith fan, but it would be fun to play AND sing along to their songs on RB.

Out of those 18, there will be at least 3-5 worth purchasing. For me anyways, I hope it's not one big bundle

Awsome news, the masters of jamming are coming to the only game where it could be possible.

I like GD, so this is a welcome addition.

Sweet some Casey Jones, nice, thats some awesome news! I'm not the biggest Dead fan, but they have some pretty good songs.

I wonder if there will be a Greatful Dead song actually in the game, or if it will be strictly DLC...

They're one of those bands I know OF very well, but have never heard even one of their songs as far as I know... which seems odd in retrospect, seeing as I listen to a lot of 60s/70s radio

09-05-2007, 03:50 AM
Oh no. Hahaha...

Depending on the price, I may have to DL some of these.
I used to work at Shoreline Aphitheater in the Bay Area in the late 80's and early 90's over 5 concert seasons, and because of that, I've experienced like 23 Dead shows because The Dead would play 2 sets of 3 shows per season = and I know all of their songs...whether I like it or not. :p

Truckin', Casey Jones, and Touch of Grey are songs most people who listen to the radio should be familiar with. I'm not a big Dead fan, but that's probably more due to lack of exposure to their albums/concerts than anything else.

Good news, can't wait to hear the "more soon"! Maybe they're saving ACDC/Led Zeppelin/Pink Floyd for their last round of announcements right before release ;)

Grateful Dead is the perfect band to have to play with so you can just lay back and jam with your friends. i'm hoping all of American Beauty will be available

Box of Rain
Friend of the Devil
Sugar Manolia
Operator
Candyman
Ripple
Brokedown Palace
'Till the Morning Comes
Attics of my Life
Truckin'

and then some additional songs

Tough of Grey
Casey Jones
Uncle Johns Band

and hopefully...

Hell in a Bucket
Dark Star (would be epic)
wharf rat
scarlet begonias
st. stephen

Could go for some Terrapin Station, Must have been the Roses, Dire Wolf (Love playing this song on guitar), Tennesse Jed, and Queen Jane Approximately. Mexicali Blues would also be awesome.

Been to About 21 GD concerts, 8 with Jerry alive. This is the best news I've heard for this game in a long time I'm exstatic. Love the Dead, I'll have to get my dad in on this too seeing as my entire family are Dead Heads.

Gotta Break out my Dancing Bear collection too ;)

i nearly knocked over my cereal when i read the announcement on Kotaku this morning, thankfully i dont have milk on cereal so it wouldnt have been so bad.
But i digress...WOOT!

Sugar Magnolia, Casey Jones, and Uncle Johns Band are three of my favourites, i was thinking only the other day how Sitting On Top Of The World would be a preety fun song to play.
I agree that hopefully Dire Wolf will be in there, and hopefully their version of Hard To Handle, St Stephen would be fun, though my favourite would still be Brown Eyed Woman, man i love that song.

Thank you Rock Band, now if only Australia got it at a closer time than next year (or at least make it region free so i can play the guitar parts with the GH 360 guitar and i'll wait to buy your guitars and drumkit).

Harmonix doesn't even realize that they've opened the floodgates with this announcement because on top of everyone wanting every Dead song ever made, whatever they announce after this people are going to want entire collections!! And it's not like the Dead only released one album, either...there's TONS of songs to get that list down to 18. Good luck with the selection process!

I have never heard of this band and neither have my parents... must be a U.S. thing.

Listened to a bunch of their songs, a couple were alright, but yeah not overly enthused. Good to see HMX is delivering on their promise of varied rock genres though.

They're pretty big. Not Led Zeppelin big, but most people in the US over the age of 25 have at least heard of them (even if they couldn't mention anything they've done). They're huge with the stoners and hippies (fans call themselves Dead Heads). Lots of improv stuff and big on live performances.

Better yet... have you ever heard of Jerry Garcia? How about Ben 'n Jerry's Cherry Garcia Ice Cream? Anyways, Jerry Garcia was basically the frontman of the Grateful Dead.... well, you know... until he died.

I agree i only knew them by name not really heard they stuff as you say it must be a U.S thing.. it sounds ok not something I would download in a heart beat though.. but just like you said at least HMX are offering various Rock genres which can only be a good thing.

For those with Sirius radios as well, they are releasing a Grateful Dead Channel on Sirius 32 (I'm not sure if this is in Canada yet, I haven't checked my receiver) but I know Howard was advertising it this morning. Lots of Dead news lately!

I don't care for them either, but, I think it shows what is possible with the DLC. The Grateful Dead are hugely popular, and that is why they went after their music. It's good to see them getting a wide variety though, and in that I find hope for the bands that I want to see.

snooze fest!!! Grateful Dead, Hole, Garbage, Pixes, maps or whoever the hell they are,THOSE ARE ALL TERRIBLE. GH III is looking much better with their great track list i get with the game instead of Rock Band where i may have to spend even more money to get good songs, i was excited about Rock Band until i compared the set lists of both games
I'll take Muse, GNR, a good Metallica song, Scorpians, Pearl Jam, Iron Maiden, and more
Plus it sucks that 5 songs are in both games when their is only 40 songs in the main game of Rock Band, doesn't leave many good songs after i play GH III

Is it possible that Grateful Dead is just a US phenomenom? Because I seriously have not heard their name even uttered once on our solid gold hits radio station.. and they're usually pretty good with that.

Even if I have heard them and not realized it, they certainly don't get pimped like other artists with bios and whatnot.

They could be excellent for all I know though. And I'm pretty likely to buy any DLC for this game regardless :P

I believe they are pretty US, they didn't really tour outside except for one awesome 3 night concert at The Pyramid of Giza in Egypt.

Also, just FYI. They were given the grammy lifetime achievement award and all 11 members have been inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
