GH 1,2 and 80's were developed by Harmonix and published by Red Octane who also made the guitars.

Activision bought Red Octane.
MTV bought Harmonix.

Activision put Neversoft in charge of GH 3.
Harmonix went to work on Rock Band for MTV/EA.

The setlist for GH3 is absolutely rubbish apart from two songs i like. The series has done the exact same thing for 3 years. The "boss battle" system is dumb. And to be honest, who looks at the graphics on GH2 that much? Your playing it! Aslong as it doesnt make you want to puke and looks reasonably good, then its fine. The new characters? I'd rather make my own =)
