VH1 is casting a four-person Rock Band rock band who just happens to be the GREATEST ROCK BAND OF ALL TIME. They may play Rock Band instruments, but they’re the biggest band in the entire world. They’re “Rock Band Band” and they’re bigger than Led Zeppelin, more popular than the Stones, and harder rocking than Sabbath. We need a guitarist, a bass player, a drummer and a singer who can wail. We’re making a five-act mockumentary. If you get the part, you’ll be on VH1, VH1 Classic, and all over the internets. It’s a sweet gig, and you’ll be paid.

Sounds so cool, besides getting to play Rock Band, you get paid, and its like a mix between Rock Band and Spinal Tap, what more could you want?

I like that they use Guitar Hero II pictures for the thing too...

I can't wait to watch this on VH 1

I'm finding the marketing scheme for this game so far to be fascinating...and I think it's just heating up...

I'll be trying out for the guitar part. I'm 17, and can look quite nerdy. My God, this would be a dream come true. Rock Band + Acting = My most amazing dream.

You probably need to be relatively close to the area (wherever vh1 gets taped)

They're gonna have a tough time filling in the rest of those spots haha.

hmm, surprised no one else is speculating the mention of Zeppelin in that ad, i mean they are mentioned along with 2 other groups on RB

Anybody have a link to the actual announcement on VH1?

I don't think there is an actual announcement yet.

Take it with a grain of salt, but one of the commenters on that article says they're from VH1 and actually sounds legit (but, this is the internet). Sounds like they sent the invite to the gamers first before they sent it to the casting boards.

God dammit, I was gonna do this with my friends.

Damn you, VH1, and your access to Rock Band!

So can anyone confirm that there's any truth behind this before I go and make myself look like a damned fool?

I'm from Destructoid and I can assure you that we would not post something like this unless it was completely true. I even entered myself.

I'd go for it if they covered my travel costs, haha. And the end of September? When are they going to announce the winners? That barely gives anyone time to ask off "several days" from work.

rockbandvideo@yahoo.com <<< ???

"Please specify which role you're like to be considered for" <<< typo? in a release supposedly from VH1?

sounds fishy to me, yep

Well, there's always TRL on MTV.

If you think you’re destined for Rock Band stardom, you’re in luck; you can test your skills and participate in the nationwide casting call at MTV’s Rock Band “Rock Off” events. Any rockers without stage fright who play on the Rock Band tour bus stage will be captured on tape for consideration by MTV casting directors. Two bands will get picked and flown to NYC to spend face-time with a real rock band for official rocker training. Then they’ll play on MTV’s TRL, and the winning outfit will get to open for a surprise super group at the Rock Band launch concert.

Rock Band launch concert? Hrmm...

The Yahoo address seemed a bit suspect to me from the start. I mean, I'd imagine they could've afforded their own e-mail and such.

This doesn't add up at all.

..That said, I'm already working on my video. Debating whether or not to throw in a bit of my talents on actual instruments to boot, to see if maybe that could give me extra points or something.

The answers about all the fishy-ness is "explained" in the comments. I sent in my email with pictures and a video, but I'll remain cautious.

This is all true, as it is stated(in slightly different words I may add) in the 'Press' section of the RB Website. (http://www.rockband.com) All real, all AWESOME! I'm gonna attend the Philly, Baltimore, and New York one to experience RB as much as I can.:D

Son of a ***** God dammit

The VH1 auditions are Tuesday. That's not even a full week after the announcement was made.

I had to live in Texas, didn't I

Yes, this is legit, guys! The director knows one of our writers, and thought it would be a cool idea to try to get some "real" gamers cast for the spots. Auditions (as far as I know) take place tomorrow (the 10th) and the spots will be filming towards the end of the month (the 25th, for sure).

In any case, if you're in the NYC area, go ahead and give it a go. I was a shoo in for the singer part, but I'll be in Japan covering TGS ... I'm considering skipping it! I KID.
