View Full Version : PS3 Bass Guitar??

Ok, I've had RockBand for the PS3 since it came out thinking my GH3 guitar would work with it. Well we all know what happened there and I guess I've just kinda gotten used to only being able to play 3/4 of the game...

I just realized it's now been 4 months since the game was released and I've been "dealing" with it all that time. Have I completely missed some solution to this problem? I just can't believe they'd let all PS3 users go handicapped for 4 months. Did they make individual strats available and I missed it? I know there are 3rd party guitars coming out sometime in the next couple of months but then we're looking at 6 months with only 3/4 of a game.

It's very frustrating to get a group of friends together and have to have an extra person sit out every song just because I don't have a workable solution for a bass guitar... I also see that the game is now coming out on the Wii in the same bundle and w/the same bass guitar handicap as the PS3. So that will make 2/3 of next-gen systems bass-handicapped.

Has there been any talk from anyone on some form of compensation to PS3 RockBand owners? We were all told from the start that the game would work w/the GH3 guitars which I assume is at least partially why they only gave us one guitar in the bundle to begin with and yet we're going to be coming up on 6 months sans-bass now.

Somebody tell me I'm missing something obvious here.

TL DR the second half of that, but

We are getting stand-alone guitars in 9 days, and the Nyko and TAC guitars are coming out sometime in the next 4-6 weeks.

Hardcore people have purchased second bundles, gotten them from E-bay, or done the RMA process but not returned the second guitar.

I get my second guitar on the 8th when Gamestops get them in stock.

As to compensation, well, our strat is wireless, which the 360 one is not - minor consolation, but a difference. Also our DLC doesn't suffer from DRM issues like the 360, RRoD means you have to spend hours on the phone to get your DLC re-licensed to your new 360.

Too many fractions.

The 3rd party ones are coming this month, just a little more wait.

Yes it's frustrating, though I don't have exact dates I've heard that both the strat (The one that came with Rockband) as well as a 3rd party guitar that will work with both RB and GH3 are supposed to be releasing in April.

Wish I had details around what proposal Activision gave to Harmonix that was declined. Must have been pretty unreasonable, but I doubt we'll ever know exactly what it was.

Does anyone know why they did not immediately release stand-alone Strats for PS3 users as a work-around for the GH3 guitar patch being blocked? I mean up front I can understand them wanting to sell it in bundles but the bundles have not been sold out for a long time... Seems like they could have pretty easily broken them up and sold the Strats by themselves like they've been doing with the drums for awhile now.

To make buyers like you REALLY want a 2nd guitar, and then they waited 'til now to release them--another way to make money rather than letting you use your Acitivision guitars that THEY did not profit off of.

lol

Activision is THE reason why they still don't work on PS3.

Harmonix created a patch to fix it, and Activision blocked it. Why? Because they are jerks. I refuse to spend another dime on any more GH crap because of it.

They could be working right now, but they are not, because Activision won't allow it.

In short...

Harmonix rules and cares for the gamers
Activision sucks the big one and gamers are just $$$ to them.

Its important to note here that the GH3 controllers not working was not the doing of Harmonix, it was either Sony or Activision, depending on who you believe. It has absolutely nothing to do with the Activision guitars that HMX didnt profit from. (and if it did dont you think 360 users would be in the same boat?)

Do some research before making unfounded and inaccurate accusations please.

I'm exaggerating.. I'm aware it had little do to with HMX. The one way HMX could have helped the situation was by not waiting until this long after the game is out (as the OP has already noted) to release separate guitars.

I don't actually know of the exact reason there hasn't been another compatible guitar released for PS3 (I'm a PS3 owner myself.) But you haven't missed any solution passing under your nose, I think part of the reason with official guitars not being released is that they wnated to iron out all the kinks since the initial batch of RB guitars seemed to have some strum problems, and since then there have still been plenty of RMA's with the newer models.

I'm one of the people that got the game for Christmas (though the date on the box was just a few days after RB's initial release) and I've only had to RMA my guitar once, and its also the only part of the bundle I've had any problem with. The official strats are supposed to be released this month though as far as I know, and also 3rd party guitars from both Nyko and The Ant Commandos are supposed to be on their way this month as well. So we should have a small variety of options to make up for our everlasting wait.

Don't get me wrong, I'm more than displeased about the wait, especially since I got GHIII for Christmas as well (though I didn't actually want it after hearing the compatibility issue, parents got it anyways...it goes underplayed but an extra guitar would be nice). But I think HMX is doing their best to get more guitars out there, they've just had a lot on their hands with trying to get bundles ready for a UK release as well. Either way, you should be able to purchase another guitar from some company or another by the end of this month.

EDIT: WOW. In the midst of my connection SUCKING and not posting this post when I tried to, apparently there were a bajillion replies and an actual discussion, so just ignore this lol sorry

Well said and factually correct.
Especially the last two assertions.
I don't want to use the cheap GH guitars anyway.
I like the cordless guitars better.
Now the wait is hopefully almost over.
