View Full Version : Good Songs for Rock Band?

There are so many amazing songs in the first two GH games that in a perfect world would make an encore appearance in RB. Unfortunately, it s very unlike Harmonix (or any major company, for that matter) to have the same song in two games, even if they are completely different games. Now, there are plenty of great songs out there that haven't been featured in GHI and II but there are some like Jessica and Carry on Wayward Son that just seem like they would fit RB so well had they not already been used. My question is this: Do you guys think that Rock Band would have downloadable GHII songs on the marketplace for the 360 version? Also, what songs would you like to see on Rock Band

Actually, since it's a different company and music contracts aren't ever exclusive, all they would have to do most likely is pay the royalties/fees like Sony did(Sony aside - they might be buttheads and not sell the music they own/distribute to Dynamix.)

As for the songs, I suggest they go for as much old school goodness as they can for the first release. 80s and 90s stuff mostly. The Grammy Nominees CDs from that era would be a good place to start for the earlier songs. Add in some Beattles and classic Led Zellpelin songs and so on, plus The Who , Stones, Jethro Tull, Scorpions(not ONE song from them so far???)and so on... Add in a few more modern groups as well - all of the ones you used to hear in the various EA games/tony hawk/driving/etc franchises on the in game radios and whatnot. And of course, toss in a few bands as well from Europe and Japan. I know they can get most of these these since EA has rights to tons of stuff.

I actually remember one of the earlier statements when Rock Band was first announced, that they were looking at a much larger spectrum of rock to licence (paraphrasing) than what was in the GH's.. surprised this hasn't really been discussed more.

Could end up with a pretty out-there, non-Guitar Hero setlist that surprises everyone here..

Whoa, did you just confuse us, Harmonix, with Dynamix? Because if you did - awesome. A10 Tank Killer for the win.

Heh. No, it's just that IIRC, Sony owns EMI music. But again, I really really doubt that anyone cares as long as they get their chunk of money/royalties.

Edit - probably not EMI - I get confused as to which mega-corp owns what lately what with all of the buyouts and mergers.

I may be misrecalling it, Plekto, but I believe you'll find that Rupert Murdoch owns the earth (source: encyclopedia brittanica). And that trumps all.

Yes! Have you played the fan made chart for that? It's awesome. I can never get past like 78% on expert though.

So I was thinking about the songs last night and I remembered something. This game is likely coming out on Blu-Ray. That means there could be room for 5-6 times the number of songs.

Imagine if Harmonix/EA/etc released a music game with 200 or 300 songs. It would by that measure alone make GH3 look weak.

And it wold give them enormous latitude in what to include. Say, have venues in each area - so you would have 20 songs in Japan, 20 in Scandanavia(mostly metal bands), another area for U.K./old 60s rock, another area with R&B...

It would be like a typical cable/XM music channel - pick an era or genre and presto - more songs than you can imagine. Take you months and months to play through them all(and more than enough variation for the Karaoke parts) If the songs were encoded as MP3s, it would be very easy to fit on even a single sided disc.(I can fit almost 100 MP3s on a normal audio CD, let alone something with 25 gigs of free space)

But it's also shipping on a standard DVD disc for xbox360 (and wii?) as well...

Besides, 5-6 times the number of songs (and work) unfortunately wouldn't = 5-6 times the amount of people buying the game.

imagine how crippled your fingers would get, anyway! :D

Heh. Now, it wouldn't be 5-6 times the peolpe buying it, but probably many more than GH3.

From what I've been haearing, this will be a pricey game to begin with, so added value by having a lot more songs than the competition is a good thing. As for the 360, downloadable content! Pay for the game, it logs in and grabs the rest of the titles for free.

Personally, I don't want any of that old school stuff. I am not into heavy metal or pre '95 stuff. I am more into the 2000's+. I am 17 years old and I listen to punk rock alternative music rather then metal and screamo.

I would like to see some Blink 182, Sum 41, Billy Talent, Incubus, Nickleback, Bush, maybe new Foo Fighters, Goldfinger, Green Day, Interpol, LIT, My Chemical Romance, some New Found Glory, The Offspring, Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins, and maybe some Yellowcard.

Incase you forgot, this isn't just another Guitar Hero with guitar solos. This is Rock band with more instruments involved. I guarentee that more sales would result if some mordern day songs were included.

Note: These bands don't have to be on initial release but rather DLC later on. I will more then willing to buy songs if I am able to play some Sum 41 or Blink 182 on Rock Band.

True - but I also did mention these. The mid 90s era Grammy Nominees Cds were nothing but these sort of songs and bands. And most of them have good vocal parts as well, which is something that 90% of the people who recommend songs keep forgetting. I mean, a song like Surfing With the Alien(Satriani) is beautiful for guitar, but vocal... it has none. Oops.

Program: 4 gigs.
Songs: 2x the old ones due to complexity and multiple parts. So figure instead of 2 gigs of music netting you 50 songs(previous DVD based releases), you need 4 gigs for 50 songs.

25 gigs (Blu-ray)-4=20-21 gigs free. They can easily fit 200 or more songs on the game, and honestly would NEED to given how wide a range of tastes it requires to do a good karoke game.(technically it looks like closer to 400+ songs space-wise, but that's a bit silly)

Even with a dual-layer DVD, they can fit an enormous number of songs. Perhaps just have a 2 dvd(DL) set for the 360 - loads in the second dvd worth of songs to the HD and from there, you just play the game. They release song DVDs and essentially leave the main program alone.

This playlist is good, except for NFG. I would like to see all the above and maybe some '70s. Such as: REO Speedwagon, Rush, TOTO, ZZ Top, Heart, Boston, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, and so on. Also, Finger 11, HELLYEAH, Mudvayne, The Toadies, Three Days Grace, Papa Roach, and Bloodhound Gang. Who doesn't love the Bloodhound Gang?
