I'm listening to it right now. For those of you listening, or who intend to listen to it, the Rock Band interview is at 32 minutes and 30 seconds into the podcast, so you can skip all the other stuff about Halo 3 other Xbox-specific chatter. (The entire podcast is over 77 minutes.)
I'm going to write up the details of the interview and post them on my site for popular consumption.. look for it in a little while.

I've learned this from experience.
Be careful of how you interpret percentages in software, that last 2% may represent 25% of the effort in a project for all we know. A project is never truly done until it's done.
It does sound encouraging though. :)
Edit: Just listened to Alex's Interview on the podcast, very good nuggets of information. Won't Get Fooled as the final song in the drum campaign was cool to know.

I just finished listening to the podcast, and I don't think I heard anywhere in there that Rock Band was 98% complete. I thought I heard Alex say that Harmonix was 98% working on Rock Band versus any residual Guitar Hero work, e.g., downloadable content for the 360 network.

so I guess WGFA being the final drum song means no more crazy drum songs so no Moby Dick or Toad or anything

I'm not sure that his 98% percent comment had to do with Rock Band's completion. He was talking about how they were mostly or entirely done with Guitar Hero now and that they were 98% percent on Rock Band now. I'm assuming this refers to 98% of their manpower working on Rock Band and maybe 2% or less still wrapping up the last of Guitar Hero.

Yeah, the 98% had nothing to do with Rock Band's status, just their focus.

Yeah, that's what I just said 2 posts up. Anyway, I posted my summary of the interview on my site: rockbandfan.com (http://www.rockbandfan.com).

Actually he didn't say they were 98% finished Rockband
if you listen closely he says they were 98% on Rock band and 2% working on Gh2 DLC
EDIT: Damnit too slow, just had to listen to the first 32min of the podcast

the 2% is pricing and coming up with a release date. These two factors will take 6 months to complete.

Beside the point, it wouldn't surprise me if the game was 98% done, but there is still a lot to do:
1) Port to the PS3. For many publishers, this has taken longer than expected and resulted in delays.
2) Manufacture huge supplies of the equipment. GH2 for the 360 was delayed a month because of unexpected problems with manufacturing. Harmonix has to build three times as many instruments, and they do not have Red Octane's years of experience in managing production.
3) The new website. I do big server web apps, and from what we've been able to glean about the new Rockband.com website, this is going to be a very ambitious project. It would not surprise me at all to see them launch with a scaled down version of the site, and then see them add major features after the game is released.

What's the 2%? GH?
What? I'm confused.

The actual question that Alex was asked was basically, "How much of Harmonix is working on Rock Band, and how much is still doing GH2 things" and the answer was "98% is working on Rock Band."

What's needed to be done on GH2?!

I would guess that it's mostly support related at this point, but I guess there is a slight chance they could still have another DLC pack in the works.
