What the hell? To say it is rare for someone I meet online to have anything other than the songs that came with the game is an understatement, and it really sucks. Its not like I have only a handful of the DLC or something, I think I am missing a total of 10 songs, and if anyone ever has more than MAYBE the Metallica pack I am completely shocked, it just never happens.
So whats up? To the people who don't get DLC, why not? It makes the game quite a bit more enjoyable...

I agree that it's weird that they spent $169 + tax on the game but can't seem to come up with even $1.00 for some DLC.
I think the truth is that there's a lot of people under 18 w/o credit cards and mom and dad won't let them buy DLC.

nah, i know people swimming in cash who refuse to buy any dlc that isn't free. Like one guy with GHIII on xbox who doesn't have journey. I mean, I have it on the wii, so I can't get journey, but wtf is somebody with xbox doing without journey.
Obviously I don't know people in a similar situation with rockband because I'm the only person within 100 miles who owns the game and I had to commit credit card fraud to get the DLC

It's far too much to expect everyone you play with to have DLC. I mean, yeah, you have to take into consideration that not everyone has the same taste in rock genres as you do (I don't have the Metallica pack for one); You must also consider the fact that not everyone has easy access to credit card funds, nor do they always want to spend money for more songs in the first place (for Canadians, $0.99USD songs are $1.99CDN, which is a real turn-off [at least for me]).
DLC does make the game more enjoyable, but you do eventually find more and more players who have DLC in common with you. Remember, PS3's online community isn't as well-established as the 360's, so it'll take a little bit of time. I was in the same boat as you when I first started out, and now when I play online, I find rockers with ample DLC at least 60% (<-obviously an estimate) of the time.

Quite a bit of people do not spend money over the internet no matter what is being offered and I think that is what the problem is. I have an "online creditcard" I use only for internet purchases, but most people don't and do not want to risk it.

Your not the only person I had to do it as well however I've only got like 30 songs as I really cant afford it all since it cost me 300 bucks to buy and get shipped

Make some friends. If you have friends and they're too checp to buy DLC, GameShare it with them.
Problem solved.

firstly, i said within a hundred miles, being that you're a good 200-300 miles from me i'd say I'm safe with the generalisation
secondly, $300 is pretty cheap as it goes

I play quite a bit, more than I should, but when I find folks that have at least 1/2 to 3/4 the DLC I have and they stick around for a long set 8-10 songs; they are sent a friends request. I don't know if I am the norm or the exception of the Rock Band status Quo, I am 43 and enjoy, all music genres, so I tend to get all the DLC minus the punk and thrasher DLC. Nothing against that type of music, but it's not what I enjoy, power to those folks that do like it though!
I am sure buying DLC has a lot to do with age and funds avaliable. But, when a person does not have DLC, giv'em some time and play a few songs with them, take care of your fellow gamer. It's all in good fun and quest for the gold stars.
118 songs and looking for more.

I have about 35 or so songs for DLC. I guess most would consider that a substantial amount, but I barely ever play online. There's just really no need to. If I want to play multiplayer, I play with my roommates and friends and other than that I play solo.

I have 16 or so songs downloaded and I rarely run into people online that have any of them. Especially in full band quick play. I think the only DLC I played online was Roxanne in a score duel. Of course I play online for only like a half hour a week at most so i'm sure that has something to do with it. I just thought the people playing online would be more inclined to have more DLC.

Money is not the issue for me. For me, there are certain songs I like. I will never Download the thrasher pack or anything that has the vocalist scream or mumble garbage or jsut sounds like noise to me without a sense of musical flow. Although I agreed to download some metallica for my roommate, I'm not a big fan of theirs other than Enter The Sandman Its all a matter of taste. If it wasn't for Boston or some of the more classic rock bands I wouldn't have Downloaded any songs.

Wow, people who like the game enough to play it online don't have any DLC?? I don't play much online, so I was not aware that people don't have lots of DLC. I don't have any of the crap DLC(the thrash or unknown junk), but all the good DLC I own. How can you not have Sabbath, Boston, Grateful Dead, Skynyrd etc.?? You have to either be broke as hell or not know that DLC is available.

I'm on a PS3, and I probably have ~20 DLC's.
It's a personal choice. Take Sabbath, I frickin LOVE Sabbath, but I don't care for the cover versions offered, so I didn't buy them.
I have an easy DLC solution. If I don't like a song, I'm not gonna come to these forums and spew vitriol... I just don't buy it.

Bolded: Your opinion. What you call crap (Thrash Pack) I call awesome.
Italics: Again opinion. You don't own the Thrash Pack and I consider that good DLC. See where I'm going with this?
Underlined: Option C: I didn't want the Sabbath covers, don't like the Dead and just haven't gotten around to downloading Skynyrd. Boston I have.
The point, as always, your opinions are yours and that's fine. But you can't make sweeping generalizations about people based on your preferences.

I agree that I roll my eyes and groan when the band leader on online quickplay chooses "Say It Ain't So". I must have played that song about a thousand times. Hopefully on an update to the game they will upgrade to an online band world tour, which would help since you can encourage your bandmates to all download the same song to be played.

I have a ton of DLC (113/135?) but I don't buy it that often just have some 'nice friends' because why would I when it costs $1 more in Canada. Oh and DLCS are harder on expert vocals than other instruments especially when you don't know the song...
Love getting 99% on a setlist song then 85% on a brand new DLC.

It's called "willingness to pay"... look it up in your favorite microeconomics textbook (I'm partial to N. Gregory Mankiw's book myself). If somebody thinks they'll get more enjoyment out of the content than they will by hanging onto said $1.99 per song for something else, then they'll buy, all things considered.
For me, working nearly full-time as a college student... my willingness to pay is relatively high.

Yes but they're hard to find.
I found a few at the BX (thats the store on a Military Base).
But other than that I haven't seen them anywhere else.

I notice whenever I add funds to my sony wallet that there's an option for a sony prepaid card, but I've never seen them offered anywhere. If Sony would put these cards out I bet a LOT more people would be buying DLC.

I'm not sure why anyone would ever be scared of using a credit card online, especially at a trusted site like the ones where you buy DLC. What's the worst that can happen - a ten minute phone call to the credit card company? You're never liable for fraudulent credit card charges. Just don't use a debit card. And, you know, read your statement every month.
I have all the DLC, but I don't do the online thing that much due to (1) annoying people online who like to hog instruments, (2) no voice chat on ps3, (3) it's just not that fun without online BWT, (4) people selecting difficulties they have no right playing, and (5) Dani California.

I have all the DLC and it's SUPER rare to come across someone with even one-tenth that. But I'll at least play one song with a "no DLC" person and then quit out.
I don't pass judgment, but it would be nice to find more players with DLC.

PS3 DLC is a question of accessability too.
A lot of us who bought the ps3 version had it imported, but you can't really buy DLC for it without a US credit card and the vast majority aren't gonna be aware about possible third-party solutions like Entropay (which may or may not work anyway). Oh yeah, and while US ps3 gamers can share their account (and therefore their DLC) with up to 5 others, finding one willing to do so is like looking for a needle in a haystack. The majority care right up to the point where they can do something about it, then they turn their backs.
So yeah, cause of that there are gonna be several ps3 gamers online without DLC and as far as they're concerned, without the ability to get any.

its amazing how many posts we have on this board that no one on ps3 has dlc, yet everyone that comes in here says they have a ton. Why do i never find any of you guys when i do random search? Its not the fact that i cant play my DLC. Its the fact that i sing enter sandman, dani california, and when you were young(in that order) in just about every band i join. Its ridiculous. Grow a pair of nuts and drop like 10 bucks on DLC. And kids can no longer complain because dont they have prepaid cards available now for PS3? you dont need a credit card anymore.

I resent that a little bit, actually. But really, I would say I've got a good portion of DLC on my PS3. Why would Canadians have any less than Americans, anyway? ... --Oh, wait, is it the price thing that I mentioned? Ha! I know I said that turned me off some DLC, but I was more or less speaking generally. The addition of a CDN dollar to DLC songs hasn't actually deterred me in the least from impulse purchasing of bonus songs.;)

yah it does suck to get a quick play band together and find out no one else has dlc....i have them all and it sucks scrolling through grey songs......sometimes ill scroll over dlc that no one has multiple times to get the point across....BUY DLC....but when i do find someone that has a substantial amount of dlc i send them a friend request....that my suggestion...when u find them...keep them on ur friends list....makes playing later on a whole lot easier....add me if u want.....i have 100% DLC every week no matter what.....just remember my friends list is basically almost filled....so dont be hurt if u get deleted eventually......rock out with ur rooster out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I suppose I really am the minority, becuase I'm a canadian PS3 owner, and I own every last bit of DLC (minus still alive, becuase of the stupid store being closed for a couple weeks for rennovations.)
and I think the prices in canada are stupid, a whole dollar more per song? when a song is 99c, paying DOUBLE that is bloody enraging...harmonix is lucky I'm a fanboy...

I'm a Canadian PS3 user and I have 43 DLC songs so far. The extra money we Canadians pay for DLC pisses me off to no end, but I guess not quite enough to deter me from actually buying it. I suppose that's what Sony is counting on up here.
The DLC has given RB a whole new kind of extended playability for me. I don't know how anyone who has had the game for more than 2 or 3 months can get by without DLC...playing the original songs from the disc over and over and over gets a little annoying and boring to me.
So it is also mildly annoying also to rarely find people online with a lot of DLC. I don't judge anyone's choice though...I'm sure they all have good reasons for not buying it (primarily income issues I suppose). I just wish more people didn't have these issues is all.

If anyone wants to add me to their friend's list, I do have a bunch (not close to all) DLC. Some is better than none right? I'll also offer you this extra perk. Since from what I'm told it's insanely hard to find a vocalist to fill out a band, I will do both for you! I can sing all but 3 songs on Expert and I'm ranked 15th on Guitar so I won't have any issues dragging the group down :)
If you ever wanna just jam out or whatever, let me know. Aim = DarkEternal37.
Stuff I have:
Boston Pack
Thrash Pack
Queens of the Stone Age Pack
Metallica Pack
Police Pack
All The Small Things
Attack/The Kill
Dirty Little Secret/Move Along
Crushcrushcrush
Beethoven's C
Shockwave
Buddy Holly/El Scorcho
Interstate Love Song/Sex Type Thing
Joker and the Thief
My Sharona
Siva
Ten Speed (of God's Blood and Burial)
The Number of the Beast
Wonderwall
Working Man
Hopefully that's enough for ya :)

I've downloaded about 80% of the DLC but I don't bother playing online because any time I duel I always lose (have yet to win even once) even though I've beaten hard on the drums and I'm on tier 3 on expert. It's not any fun to wait for 10 minutes for someone to log on and when they do they destroy you and then log off to find someone better to play against.
I also don't really feel the need to play quickplay online either. Not having everybody in one room rocking out together kind of defeats the purpose of multiplayer IMO.
