For anyone on here that has played Rock Band, how are the fadeouts in tracks like Don't Fear The Reaper handled? These are master tracks, so I don't know how they can change them to fit the game like they can do with a cover.
I really hope they didn't pull a GH:80s and have you just play the fadeout. That's just not rock.

You get to just hit whatever you want during the fadeouts and stuff. Im not sure how exactly it works, but the all the buttons just have solid lines and it lets you play whatever you want on the instruments. I think even the vocals sometimes just has a solid green line where you can yell whatever you want or something. I saw people playing Dont Fear the Reaper at PAX and I know you can pass/fail the fade out things, but Im not sure what the rules are for them.

there's a video of Tom Sawyer that shows a fixed ending so it doesn't just fade out.

the reason tom sawyer has a fixed ending is prolly because its not a master track, and the only fade out is the drums cause the guitar is done playin on the master track

Yeah I played Tom Sawyer at PAX and they didnt have a fadeout.
Here is a video with a fade out. Even though the song isnt going to be in the game.

Fade out: 24 seconds left
also at 1:53 left it looks like you can add your own drum fills

They actually left a fadeout in at least one of the tracks in Rocks the '80s. It sucked and totally broke you out of the experience. I'm hoping Harmonix will clean all that up on Rock Band.

Yeah, that was I Wanna Rock. It sucked that they missed that.
But as for any type of fading out. They'll get rid of it, and make their own ending, OR they will get a live version of the song, and see what they did there. That's what they did with Freebird. In the original, it just fades out. They got a live version, and finished their cover with that.

???? The original version of Free Bird found on the album Pronounced 'l?h-'nérd 'skin-'nérd does not fade out. I'm not sure what studio version of Free Bird you're referring to but no Free Bird I've ever heard of fades out. I know with Last Child they covered it so it was like the live version of the song so it was more challenging and so it didn't fade it. As for master tracks i'm not sure what procedure they take to make sure that they don't fade out. I'm hoping the free-form jam sessions at the end of the songs will fix that.

Good point. For whatever reason, they left the fadeout on I Wanna Rock, which was a master track.
I doubt they will be so lazy for Rock Band.

He probably is talking about the shortened 9 min version that appears on some compilations and best-of albums (such as 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection). But I can definitely remember having this exact argument with my friend about how the version of "Freebird" he listened to was shortened, while he insisted that the 9-min "Freebird" was not cut down.
