View Full Version : Music videos in the background

In Guitar Hero, I get tired of looking at the CG puppets go through the same-old same-old after a few dozen games. It would be awesomely cool to be able to replace the game backdrop with the music video for the song you're playing.
What do y'all think?

Generally speaking it's not a terrible idea...but I don't think it would really fit with the overall feel of the game very well. Personally I barely notice what is going on in the background when I play, and the music videos might be too distracting in some cases anyway. Plus not all available songs are going to have associated music videos.
It would be cool however if making music videos was somehow incorporated into the Band World Tour. Not that you would have any sort of control over what the video would look like (it would just be like the regular CG animation but on kind of a generic video set), but maybe you could play the song as part of the making of the music video and get some extra cash for it.

^ everything this guy said is right. i hardly look at the background and it would be you know fitting with the game that you get to see your CG band perform since u know u r pretending that that is your band. it'd be kinda odd to do a world tour as ur band and only see like the real life radiohead in the creep video

I know at least for GH3 they are making the animation way better. I also read that you can chose your characters rock moves and stuff, so Im sure you can change it up if you get bored.

Yeah I'm guessing that watching the music videos would get old much faster than the CG animation would, especially now with the character creation/customization options.

Id rather see the game mimic being in a rock band on tour than a real music video from the artist. Also some songs that get put in the game wont have music videos.

In two words: **** NO. (comment awaiting ESRB approval)
I dunno about you guys, but I personally think it looks tacky and cheap. Not to mention does nothing to actually immerse you in the game (as opposed to watching your avatar play along with you).
Singstar visual approach? No thanks.

Agreed. I cringed at the thought of the Singstar treatment in RB.

Somewhat off-topic, I would've loved to have seen a The Movies-esque feature for making music videos. Or, hell, setting up how the band performs on-stage.
Too late now, though. Damn shame.

I think there will be at least a little bit of that. What your character does on stage depends on their personality that you set. Plus how everything looks depends on your clothes and equipment. Maybe there will be other stage accessories that we can buy too.

That would totally make you crazy with 4 instruments on screen as it is. Its cool for Singstar, but it does not work for this game. Plus it takes away the whoel character thing and makes the game feel really cheap.

why would you censor the word 'mother' if you put a space between it and 'f*****'??? ...just so you know m*********** is one word. it is more commonly censored like this>>>" motherf***** "

High-quality music videos for the songs that have music videos as bonus content? Yes.
Music videos replacing character animations so that I'm playing Singstar Band? No.

Well, it should look like as if you're playing a gig with your band. It would'nt give u this feeling if you just see a music video.
But I would'nt mind it if there was a screen in the venues somewhere in the background where you can see the original video running.

Not to mention that if you had to watch the videos, I would never be able to play the newly announced Black Hole Sun, which would suck.
Call me a wuss, but that is one of the single creepiest things I have ever seen.
