im pretty sure i ahd a similar feeling when i was trying to FC 29 fingers on expert drums .. i would make it to those last 3 random ass notes at the end (it's 2 reds and a blue pad hits) and miss them. i would make it to these last 3 notes like 1 out of 3 plays, but then f them up. It took me 6 tries just to get those 3 notes hit for the FC. and yes a few times i hit 2 out of 3 of those notes so my score for the song was only 100 points of a full combo score. but i needed to know i FC'd it. but i did. so i would also like to thank the lord.

I can't get through highway star or ggaht on solo career yet whenever i've been online against random people I've torn them a new one every time (except tug of war on ggaht, that stuff's nasty)

the point is, I am, from semi-empirical observations, better than most. you are better than me. As such you are not "rather crappy"

you are, in fact, pretty damn awesome. Play in front of your friends and they'll think you're jimmi hendrix reborn, as somebody with money and apparently no access to a real guitar

I've five starred the song, but I still almost fail in a couple of sections.

And as a side note i always end up tapping my foot really vigorously and very offbeat during the last part of the second solo before the big rock ending.

You expect him to get over 400K on a song he RANDOMLY beat? hahaha!

Sure you are, buddy.
On the subject of GG&HT, I, too, managed to pull off my first 05* today. [Don't laugh]. It was a pretty rewarding feeling, not gonna' lie. I still have to cheat my way through the zig-zags [I ritually use the Les Paul], but I never flash red/near failing out, personally.

Congrats on the accomplishment, Sumo. I was pretty ecstatic to beat it, in general -- I'm familiar with the feeling. Keep up the shreddin'.

Practice will help you through the Zig Zags, if you would JUST PRACTICE!

I was 10K short of 5 Staring on my first try, the second try got me 5 Stars. Currently at 359K.

I passed it once on pure chance, too; I can do it if I get past the R-Y-B-Y zigzags, but I've only done that once. Tried it again, not even close to passing it. If I practiced my zigzags, I could do it every time. (I'm excellent at trills, though; I blame Knights of Cydonia on Hard in GH3, made me practice the trill motion and timing the strums correctly to make sure I didn't absent-mindedly break the string for hours on end. Granted, these trills are much faster, but I've never had that much trouble.)
Practice will get us there, though. :]

Dear Jesus, its me Vandyan. If youre listening, and done helping sumo390 out, I could use your divine guidance in getting past RTtH on hard drums.

im never playing this song again
i can only beat it with the xplorer guitar
with the fender, i can use the lower frets and fc the zig zag parts but during the o-b-y part at the end i always fail right away
and with the xplorer i miss a lot of notes on the zig zag part but im able to fc the end
this song pisses me off angry face

Nice score, man. Quite impressive -- with a bit of work [and perhaps more precise OD use], I could see you definitely pulling off gold stars.

Regarding practice... I actually played those GRY trills in practice, just the other day. I can full-combo it... at 50% speed. I don't know if it's muscle-memory, or if I'm doing something wrong, but I cannot keep a combo at 100% speed for the life of me. [80%, I think, is when it starts to hit the fan]. I'm stuck with just doing the pull-offs in that bit, until I can get my hand to cooperate.

If you're stuck at 80% speed. Try going to 70% for awhile, and just practice that one part over and over, maybe 10 times or until you got it down, move up and just keep practicing until you can do it, then maybe keep doing it at 80% to make sure you got it down, then move to 90%, you'll want to practice here the longest. Especially since there is hardly any different between 100% but it'll get you ready for full speed.

I was able to do the Zig-Zags perfectly for about a week. Then I stopped playing GGAHT, and now I suck again.

It's all about speed. I can FC or near FC the the zig-zags most every time now, and i had a heck of a time learning it. If you were able to see the fingers of someone doing it correctly you would see that they hardly move, just barely enough to let the buttons but and then right back down.

As a mater of fact if you can hit all the pull offs you should be able to hit all the notes as the natural progression of putting your fingers back down should trigger the hammer-ons.

I suggested this else where but I'll try it again. I personally keep my fingers fixed together and roll them on and off the frets rather than pressing the individually, causes the exact motion necessary to get through the Zigs.

I still have a ways to go before I gold star it, but like everyone else, with enough practice I'm sure it can be done.

Hey - that's a really cool concept. I don't think I could apply it, but it's worth a shot to see if there's any progress. I quite like it.

It would definitely be faster, and easier on the hands.

Ha! Here's how I cheaply passed that song on hard my first time. I just concentrated on at least hitting 2 out of 3 red pads (the ones just before a bass pedal note and the one on the bass pedal note), as many of the "long" rolls as possible, hitting every bass pedal and scoring as many overdrive chains as possible. Before that when I tried to play all the notes, I was missing notes and getting my timing thrown off even more which drove my fan meter down even faster.

So by purposely not hitting every not and focusing on the ones I could hit cleanly I was surviving long enough to get overdrive boosts to save me, allowing me finish the song. :D

Knowing that I passed the song, I could actually go back to try and play the song properly without the weight and frustration of not having passed it sitting at the back of my mind.

Hey - that's a really cool concept. I don't think I could apply it, but it's worth a shot to see if there's any progress. I quite like it.

"Rolling" my fingers may not have been the best explanation. It's more of a squeeze. Pointer finger stays down the whole time and then I just squeeze and relax the next 2 fingers. Mind you this only works if your middle finger is linger than your ring finger, or you can hold your hand in that configuration. This causes your middle finger to hit slightly before your ring ringer and release slightly after.

I do this with the regular fret buttons not the solo buttons.

Hopefully this will help you improve the zig-zags. One of these days I'll be able to apply this to the final string of pull-offs and then get my gold stars, but until then I guess I just have to follow the practice method, unless someone has some advice for me (you would think I could just use the zig zag method but it doesn't seem to work).
