View Full Version : Deep Purple - Which Songs?

Ok, so I see a lot of threads for bands I'd love to see on Rock Band, but what about Deep Purple. Anything else than Highway Star you think should be in the game?

smoke on the water has to be the easiest song to play on guitar. Ima say no.

Yeah, I had to put Smoke on the Water in there; not much of a challenge, but everyone knows the song, and that's always a plus.
I would love Pictures of Home as well; definitely one of my favorite songs, even though it's not one of their "hits".
Of course, any Purple would be even better if there were a keyboard controller

I'm hesitant to cast my vote. Don't want to give one song the lead, only to find that another one or two is better suited but had an unfamiliar title.
With that said, I was listening to some D.P. in the car the other night and thinking how great a couple would be for Rock Band!
Smoke on the Water & My Woman From Tokyo would be the obvious picks due to recognizability. They'd be crowd favorites at parties, but... maybe not the most challenging or fun for the experienced band.
Burn would be amazing.
I can only imagine the charting possibilities for drums & guitar. Definitely a solid & complex bassline, and the vocals would be lots of fun as well. Wonder if they'd chart Coverdale AND Hughes... ?
Child in Time would be epic as well, but in a different sort of way. It's one of those long songs, clocking over 10 minutes. Lots of sections where various instruments would be doing little to nothing at all, but they all have their time to shine. Soaring vocals and a GREAT guitar solo!
For any of these, I'm sure the organ/piano could be minimized as was done for Highway Star.
Others on the list have great potential, but these two stood out when I was cranking them in my car just recently.
More Deep Purple, please!

i would download most of those, but i also want to cast a vote for "when a blind man cries"... it's a slow burner and may be a bit too chilling for a video game, but sometimes sacrifices have to be made...

but why some people want child in time? i don't think it would be very playable as vocalists.

I voted all of them. I like Deep Purple, but I don't know much from them, and I can never find a good time to listen to them. I just don't feel like it you know?
But I would love some Deep Purple DLC to get me more into them.
If we get Smoke On The Water, it should be in a "First Songs You Ever Learned Pack".
The First Songs That You Ever Learned Pack"
Smoke On The Water By Deep Purple
Iron Man By Black Sabbath
Random AC/DC song.
This could just as easily be a challenge too. These are in no way my favorite songs by these bands, this was just an idea.
Burn would probably be my #1 choice right now.

For those who mentionned tracks from Purpendicular, I did not include them because it's not part of the popular Deep Purple tracks, and only the DP fans would really know the album, so I made a list with some of the classics which would work well for Rock Band in my opinion.
That said, Purpendicular is probably my second favorite album right after Machine Head, and yes, Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming is amazing.

"April" is a great song, but would be odd as far as playing it in Rock Band goes (the full 12 minute version). Rather than cutting the "beginning" though, if you cut out between 4:20 - 8:40 it'd work. The 4 minute wait, while awesome to listen to, would bore the Hell out of those wanting to play the game. Its pull-off able though, Deep Purple just has some easier stuff more suitable for Rock Band. I'd buy it in a heart beat either way though.
As far as I'm still concerned though...I really friggin' want "Burn". I'll strangle a fly for that song.

I have a compilation CD called "Smoke on the Water & Other Hits" that I love listening to that would all make interesting additions to the library. It starts with "Smoke on the Water" and ends with "Highway Star," between them are:
"Woman From Tokyo" - I actually thought Cheap Trick performed this song, for the longest time /facepalm Catchy, fun, and doesn't sound like it'd be horribly difficult
"Burn" - I probably wouldn't play this one, since it'd be psychotically difficult on gee-tar, which is pretty much all I play. But it would probably sell.
"Child in Time" - I noticed this one was on the poll, but I think it's the one from the CD that wouldn't make a very good addition to the RB library. Much too long. Too many stretches where a chart (or multiple charts) would be blank (and yes, Camera Eye, I have the same thoughts for you)
"Fireball" - If nothing else, it'd add a much craved-for bass solo to the library :p The drum part also sounds pretty complex, though the guitar actually seems comparatively tame
"Stormbringer"
"Never Before"
"Gettin' Tighter" - These all sound like they'd hit that magic spot where they're just hard enough to be fun
"Black Night" - OMG WANT. I love love love this song. I love the swing feel this song has, and while it might be harder than some of the other songs here, I could TOTALLY see myself playing it a gajillion times to get better at it (though those trills in the solo....*sigh*).

"Child in Time" next week! Pretty excited about that and really happy to see more Deep Purple. I would still love to see "Flight of the Rat" and "Speed King" at some point. :)

More early Deep Purple! The entire "Machine Head" album would be welcome by me.

The rest of Machine Head would be great, but I'd like to see some more songs from Deep Purple in Rock more. Mostly 2 songs I mentioned above, but I'd most likely buy anything from that album and songs from other albums to spread it out a bit.

It'd be nice if we could get more than one Deep Purple song for once.
Some I'd like to see.
Black Night
Hush
Burn
Demon's Eye
Speed King
A RB3 of Highway Star would be cool too.
