I've been keeping a spreadsheet of all the songs in Rock Band. I have another thread somewhere in which I pointed out the lack of 80s songs, but I digress.

Today I was bored, so I decided to import my list in SQL and run a query on it to see the ranking roller coaster that is my DLC. The ratings are souly based on what I rated the songs, so obviously this is one person's opinion and would differ for everyone.

Column #1 - Release Date of the DLC
Column #2 - Number of Songs Released that Week
Column #3 - My Average Rating for those songs
Column #4 - Number of Songs I downloaded

11/20/2007 15 5 7
11/27/2007 3 5 0
12/04/2007 3 6 2
12/11/2007 3 5 1
12/18/2007 3 7 3
12/25/2007 5 5 3
01/01/2008 3 6 2
01/08/2008 3 6 2
01/15/2008 3 6 2
01/22/2008 3 8 3
01/29/2008 3 3 0
02/05/2008 3 2 1
02/12/2008 3 2 0
02/19/2008 3 7 3
02/26/2008 3 5 0
03/04/2008 6 5 0
03/11/2008 3 4 0
03/18/2008 3 2 0
03/25/2008 6 7 6
04/01/2008 1 6 1
04/08/2008 3 3 0

It started out fairly smooth with all 5's, 6's, and 7's, and even an 8 on 1/22 (I like Oasis), but then the roller coaster started and since then only two 7's and one 6. During the same time period I've got five ratings of 2 or 3. I don't like where the DLC is going. It really seems to me that the obscurity is the way HMX is headed, with the only really recognizable stuff being Classic Rock. Don't get me wrong, I like me some good Classic Rock (Boston pack=Pretty Sweet), but aside from some good Classic, and a handful of others it's been a lot of stuff not to my liking.

I am all for everyone getting stuff they like, but honestly, while there has been a good amount of stuff I have downloaded (36 songs so far), HMX is yet to hit really anything I am just dieing to have.

Wow, you're sure keeping track of it all. I don't even know when the stuff releases, when I have extra money I just go in the store and pick some out. Have most of it now, but it'll be a month or two before I'm fully caught up.

In the beginning, I would buy all the DLC hearing unheard.

My thinking was, give them money and they will keep making songs.

Now my game is full of some real crap.

Now, since I have learned from my mistakes, (30 seconds to Mars, Cherry bomb, the arguably punk pack) just to name a few, I now only buy music that fits my musical style. (Boston, Black tide) to name a couple.

It makes more sense to shape the future of DLC by NOT buying music genres you just dont like to PLAY, (in my case the fast strumfests with little fretwork), and only buying the music I like, with complex fretwork, and music that flows from my fingers in a natural fashion. It is sheer bliss to play Boston's Piece of mind on lead guitar.

Encourage good music to play on Rockband by buying it.

Discourage crap by not buying it, or even by NOT downloading it if it is free.

Keep in mind that good songs to play on rockband may not be the style of music you would, or do, listen to, (like the Grateful Dead).

I would never listen to that stuff on it's own, but have a great time playing it on Rockband.

Mine is like a mountain range. With a valley inbetween (no downloaded songs from weeks 12 to 15).

I don't like most of the songs, but nothing I would consider a bad release. Can't expect to like everything.
