Just wondering if anyone has taken a peek under the hood of their Strat yet? I was at a pawn shop yesterday and I saw a cool old beat up strat for $80.00 - I'm thinking about buying it and modding it. My Dad has everything I'd need to do it - Routers, saws, etc. Just wondering how big of a project this may be.
Anyone out there attempted this yet? Links please?

Nope. Not yet, surprisingly.

It Depends (hehe depends are diapers) If you have the 1st guitar it'll prolly be a little easier. I cant really recal but when i opened up my first one to see if i could fix it there wasn't all this hot glue crap. When I opened up my second guitar there was all this hot glue holding all the parts together. SO if you sent your guitar in you might have a little harder time.
I actually am making a guitar hero custom guitar by scratch. Its kinda on hold since one of the wires detached and i need a sougtering iron.

You should check out this link (http://toolmonger.com/2006/12/05/how-to-build-your-own-custom-full-sized-wireless-guitar-hero-controller)- though it's a GH guitar, I'm sure the RB one could be made wihtout much more effort.

I've opened my Strat many times. Once to try a mod to fix the first-gen double-strum problem (it worked...for a while). Another time to try and swap out a neck without clicky fret buttons onto a body with an improved strum bar (didn't work, couldn't get the neck off). And quite a few times to fix the broken spring for the whammy bar.
It's cool seeing all the guts up close. However, all the hot glue hairs all over the place don't instill a lot of confidence in the workmanship, though.

I thought the hot glue was worrying too until i started modding stuff and realised that the glue is absolutely essential if you don't want the wires getting trapped in screwholes and the such
that said, I used epoxy, now that's a bad idea

I just got me a bass axe yesterday and a Rogue lead guitar. I spent the morning destroying them. . . Both were in bad shape except the necks looked nice in both cases so my next plan is to router them out (underneath the plastic covers and make room for all of the Rockband componentry and then I have something special planned for the necks - I'm still looking into it, but I will post my results here when I get them finished, but I have a few strat controllers waiting for me at Gamestop. 2 for bass and backup. . . and then the others are for destroying and harvesting of organs. . . .Muahahahahahahahaha!
I'll let you know as my autopsy progresses!
