Nyko is now shipping a standalone wireless guitar that will work for both Rock Band and Guitar Hero 3!

When do 3rd party Rock Band guitars come out for the 360?
I'm a little tired of using my GH2 guitar, and I -hate- the Strat. I have long fingers, and it makes it a pain to use.

i think the stand alone strat is coming out mon/tues too, giving you 2 options in the span of a few days rather than 0 options for 6 months..

On the 360? You've always been able to use the GH2 and GH3 guitars on RB. I think the LP is available separately, but I haven't looked to be sure.

Man, they did a great job visually with the stomp box...but why stop there? I know innately we all know that we're just playing a guitar looking controller...but I think we're all sick of playing something that it looks like it came out of a FischerPrice box. I give kudos to Nyko for giving us the technology to play a non-stock guitar on the PS3...but please don't stop there...I guess for them, it is just version 1.0.

i think the big question on everyone's (or at least my) mind is whether or not this guitar will have the 'clicky' feature of the GH guitars, or the soft aspect of the strat.

if it's not clicky like the GH guitars, then i'd rather just buy the standalone strat b/c it has solo buttons and b/c i've gotten used to it, but it is almost impossible to up-down strum well with the strat without breaking your multiplier (see creep, main offender solos, seven, etc.)

the article doesn't mention if it'll be clicky, so does anyone who may work for nyko or have seen/used this guitar before release date know if it'll be GH-esque or same soft as strat?

I had a previous Nyko for my PS2, it was good since it had built in recharger via USB. It looks the same as new one above and had the click type strum bar

I think it's butt-ugly, but maybe it's just me. I'd rather have 2 guitars (one for RB and one for GH) than have just ONE ugly guitar. At least the RB guitar looks amazingly like a real guitar. Just my 2cents.

My problem is that it isn't really 2 guitars, it's 4. Beyond 2-3 it gets ridiculous, especially if you live in a smallish space.

The thread title is misleading, considering that there are no solo frets on this thing. If one day the solo frets on my strat broke, I wouldn't consider it "working". The Nyko is broken right out of the box.

That's stupid, then I have 3 guitars already that don't work, 2 of which are way better than the strat. It doesn't need to have solo buttons (which I only use on BRE's) to work

I only use the solo buttons for Highway Star, GGaHT, Ride the Lightning, and big rock endings. Or for occasional show-off moments. They aren't really necessary either, it just makes those songs easier.

I have a PS3, and I really want a guitar that I can alt-strum reliably with.

The review says the strum bar is essentially the same as a Guitar Hero strum bar.


The Frontman's strummer and whammy bar both feel exceedingly similar to the first-party guitar, which is good. Star Power sensitivity was also equivalent to that of the Red Octane guitar.

We've known since CES that it's a "clicker". If you watch the video on Gamespot, the guy puts the microphone up to guitar and strums it a few times to show it clicks. :D

wow i really hope that one of these comes to 360. it looks like a strat/gh guitar hybrid which is what i've been wanting. hopefully if it does come to 360, it will look like the wii frontman which kicks ass because it's a telecaster clone and looks pretty amazing IMO.

How does that look like a Strat/GH guitar hybrid? It's no different than the Xplorer or LP. 5 buttons, clicky strumbar. Where's the "hybrid" part? Just the fact that it works in the RB game?
