I've been singing for awhile (as in, outside of Rock Band), but I've never had an official teacher. Are there any tricks or tips to increase vocal range? I have a low voice normally, and my range has increased since playing Rock Band (Thanks Harmonix!!!), but, for instance, I just broke into my falsetto for the first time about five minutes ago, and I can't come close to singing some songs, even an octave down. Does anyone have any strategies to pushing my range faster? Thanks!
For a bit of scope: In my normal mode, the highest note in More than A Feelin' is the highest note I can hit, an octave down. (I think the part that goes, 'I see my Marianne walk awaaaa-aaaaa-AAAAY!)
Thanks in advance!

I heard drinking whiskey is supposed to loosen your vocal cords or something like that?
It takes a lot of time to master, but the "Do-re-me-fa-so-la-se-do" thing can help. You should try increasing your vocal range by singing in higher or lower octaves using do-re-me....
Not sure what else you can do.

The reason why Whiskey (or any hard alcohol) actually helps your range is not because it opens up your vocal cords but basically because it relaxes you. This is NOT recommended for the long haul however. -lol-
I used to do a few shots in the studio before any recording sessions but tried to stay clear of it when actually doing shows (At least until it was over lmao)
personally, what i would use when doing shows is lemon Juice. It seemed to work really well at opening up the cords.

I'm no doctor so take it for what it's worth. It really helped me a lot and may be worth a shot.

Yeah, the booze definitely helps (a lot). But I have to agree that it only helps because it relaxes you and you sing from your chest, not your throat. You've got to breathe when you sing. It's kind of hard to explain. When I can't hit those high notes (aka, I haven't been drinking) it's almost like I'm singing through my nose. I know that sounds weird but again this is hard to explain. Ya just gotta be loose. Ease any tension you may have and just belt it out from the chest.....
Screw it, just booze up!
btw, lemon juice? That's interesting. Looks like tonight there will some experimentation!

Thanks for the help, everyone. I guess I'm going to check out the videos K87 posted and, hopefully, get a voice instructor at some point. Also, the lemon juice idea sounds cool, I'll try that out as soon as possible. Thanks!
