Since a thread didn't exist, it shall now. In this topic we gush over the Alternative rock godfathers, R.E.M. For easy consensus-gathering, I'll keep updating this first post with the song tallies, as well as whatever source I can find to listen to the songs being requested. If you see here a song you want in, request it again! Its count will go up and it'll be more popular. And of course, you're free to just chat on the band as well.
The Request List:

Thank you! Finally! This is already going in the Find-a-Band Thread so you don't need to bother telling me!

R.E.M. is simply another one of those brilliant bands that it's hard to say anything bad about, even if you don't like their music. "What's the Frequency, Kenneth?" is one of my all-time favorite songs and I've probably listened to it more than any other song besides "Come Out and Play" by The Offspring.
As far as your voting thing, any R.E.M. is great but I'll keep it to 3 just so you know what I want most.
WTF, Kenneth? (Yes, that's what "WTF" should stand for!)

Should I be reading that as vote #2 for Kenneth? :p
I've updated my first post with three songs, thanks! It's totally your decision but you may want to ask people to give just their top three or six like some of the other threads, or you might have people saying "All of them" haha.

Eh, I can always add an "any" option. :p And don't restrict yourself to 3 or 6. I didn't. :p

1 vote for It's The End of The World As We Know it. Great singin' song.
Also, I'm surprised that Shiny Happy People isn't on there. Great lyrics.

As long as you are asking for Athens bands, how about some
Drive By Truckers
The Whigs
Drivin N Cryin (really Atlanta, but they all moved to Athens)
and more B 52's
All great bands...

"It's the End of the World (as We Know It)"
PLEASE for the love of GOD I hope this eventually gets put in.
I'd play vocals and ONLY vocals for that song.

Ahh, R.E.M, great band. My dad even knew michael stipe!
But for songs, Disturbance At The Heron House, Losing My Religion and Near Wild Heaven are my suggestions, but for votes, Stand.

Rock Band definitely needs more R.E.M.
Five of my friends and I are going to their concert in June... I can't wait! :D
As for what I'd like to see in Rock Band the most:
- It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)
- Superman
- Begin the Begin
- Losing My Religion
- Supernatural Superserious

Finally, some more Athens love! Only other Athens bands I was aware of were The B-52's and Modern Skirts. And Sailerman, I'm jealous! The closest their tour comes to me is Madison Square Garden, which would be way too expensive a show. x_x
I'll hop through and update the favorites. I gotta agree, End of the World As We Know It would be an awesome vocal track. Not as great on everything else, but I'd accept it for the shouts of Leonard Bernstein. :D

Well, I'm going to their concert at Jones Beach on Long Island, which is further than NYC from Rochester, but it's not too bad if you really want to see R.E.M.
The tickets we got were only $34 after tax and convenience charges ($25 base price). Sure, the seats aren't all that great, but hey, the price is good for such a well-known band! :p

That is a pretty good price! It was about $40 for me to see Bob Dylan and Elvis Costello on campus back in the fall, and that was with student discount. Maybe if I get that internship over in NYC area I'll show up at that show (assuming it's not sold out by then)...

Certainly plenty of R.E.M. I'd love to see represented, but if I had to pick 3 songs: Supernatural Superserious, ITEOTWAWKI (AIFF), and Radio Free Europe. That'd be a good overview of their career. Though, really, I'd be thrilled with any REM DLC. Plenty of good stuff. Leave from New Adventures sticks out as a potentially great song to play in Rock Band.

I would absolutely love it if we got Imitation of Life.

Here would be my five, in no particular order:
- Green Grow the Rushes (Fables)
- Man on the Moon (Automatic)
- WTF, Kenneth (Monster)
- Supernatural Superserious (Accelerate)
- The Wake-Up Bomb (New Adventures)
So far it's a good list, although I personally wouldn't download Stand or, even worse, Shiny Happy People.

Pasted from another thread. I'd vote for these.
"What's The Frequency, Kenneth?"
"Finest Worksong"
"Begin The Begin"
"Stand" (not really fond of the song, but for mass appeal's sake)
"Driver 8"
"Harbourcoat"

I own every REM album. Big fan here. Here are some of my picks:
So. Central Rain
Superman
Driver 8
Harbourcoat
Welcome to the Occupation
King of Birds (would be a fun drum chart)
Stand
Monty Got a Raw Deal
The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight

Crush with Eyeliner
Wake up Bomb
Bittersweet Me

*added* Belong

So. Upon further listening I've determined that Document would work as a full album. All 11 songs fit the game, and it includes the band's first big hit (The One I Love) and the most requested REM song (End of the World).
Would this be awesome (y/n)?

R.E.M. is on some days of the week my favourite band. I am really looking forward to seeing them a couple times this summer.
As long as 'Leave' from NAiHF is in I'd be mostly content. Make sure its the album version and not the dumb 'A Life Less Ordinary' version.

Once I finally decide to pick up 'Green' on CD I'll have the entire R.E.M. discography on a digital source. Until then I ahve to listen to Green on my iPod or vinyl.
My 3 picks would be:
[as I said above] Leave (New Adventures in Hi-Fi) ----- Imagine drumming on this, simple yet undeniably awesome!
What's the Frequency Kenneth? ----- Maybe if one of my friends have any physical resemblance of Dan Rather I could throttle them with my mic cord.
Man on the Moon ----- R.E.M.'s finest. It is plain to see this would be a gigantic hit with just about everyone.

It is WAY too hard to pick an individual album. I'd like to see a 12-pack for the IRS years and a 12-pack for the post-IRS years. That would be a nice start, at least.

Since there's a ton of Pixies and RHCP and No Doubt and Pearl Jam and Nirvana; I see no reason why we can't slide a bunch more than a six-pack or REM. Here's what I want:

Agreed. The only one I would change in that would be Everybody Hurts. It would be one of those songs that just wouldn't translate well into the game.
My dream has always been that HMX will announce that they are doing two R.E.M. twelve packs: one for their IRS years, one for their Warner years. I would never need to download another song in my life if they did that.

It's just crazy that R.E.M. doesn't have more songs in Rock Band! They're one of the most important bands from the early 80s alternative scene (they practically invented "college rock" and paved the way for tons of bands).
Hope to see these songs in the game soon:

Radio Free Europe
Man-Sized Wreath

So. Central Rain
Supernatural Superserious

Wow the amount of R.E.M. songs we have in Rock Band is sad. When Losing my Religion was announced, I finally could play something other than Orange Crush (Which is still an amazing song). We NEED R.E.M. I really would like their underrated stuff, like Around the Sun or Up tracks. New Adventures in Hi-Fi, Monster, they are all so good. Nobody seems to like Reveal (One of my personal favorites) either. They are all so good. I would buy any R.E.M. track Harmonix could put out there.
Dream come true, a 12 pack:
R.E.M. 01
Its the End of the World as we Know it (And I Feel Fine)
The One I Love
Daysleeper
Leaving New York
She Just Wants to be
Harborcoat
What's the Frequency, Kenneth
Radio Free Europe
Supernatural Superserious
Stand
Leave
Electron Blue
(A good mix up of most of their albums) This band deserves a 12 pack!

"It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" would be hilarious on vocals (good and bad performances alike). I'd also like to see "Stand", "What's the Frequency, Kenneth?" and "Shiny Happy People".

Harmonix loves to give us modern alternative bands and indie rock, but how about giving us the pioneers for alternative?
11 song pack:
Radio Free Europe
Stand
Superman
It's the End of the World as We Know It
Pop Song 89
Driver 8
Everybody Hurts (would be amazing on vocals)
The One I Love

I'm listening to my copy of Out of Time right now for the first time in at least 8-9 years~
I'd like to see Near Wild Heaven (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oC7er_6dpsI) and Radio Song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGXVyDsOV2w) in the game~ which, along with Shiny Happy People and Losing My Religion, were probably the only songs I really cared for from the album when I was younger. I can't say my opinion of it has really changed that much since~ so I'll be checking out some of their other albums soon.
As of now, my most wanted R.E.M. songs are still Bad Day (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3SSegq9USY) and It's The End of the World... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bmxyj6iInMc)~

I effing love this band. They were really the first band I was ever broken into. MY Dad used to go to a ton of their concerts, and I feel a deep connection to their spirit. These are some of my favorites that I want to play on Rockband:
Man on the Moon
What's the Frequency, Kenneth?
Star 69
Circus Envy (epic song especially for Rockband)
Crush with Eyeliner
Don't Go Back to Rockville
Radio Song (great bass)
Shiny Happy People
Me In Honey
(basically anything else from "Out of Time")
EVERYTHING FROM ACCELERATE!!! Especially Mr. Richards, Man-Sized Wreath, Sing for the Submarine, and Accelerate.
Superman
It's The End of the World
King of Comedy
Any live version of Losing my Religion
Thats all I can think of for now, but there are more to add!
If I told my dad about all of these songs being on Rockband, he'd flip a sh*t.
We are an R.E.M. family, and I'd really love more on the DLC besides "Losing my Religion".

Absolutely love this setlist.
Actually, there's only two REM songs that I *don't* like, and that includes the only one that's available as DLC. (I'm not partial to Shiny Happy People either, but I dig the video because of all the Howard Finster artwork.)

Seconding the 'trust HMX' comment I saw above, and I too will buy any well charted R.E.M. track, but here are my votes for top 5:
Driver 8 (Fables of the Reconstruction)
It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine) (Document)
The One I Love (Document)
Try Not to Breathe (Automatic for the People)
Bang and Blame (Monster)

my remaining still missing faves -
It's the End of the World as We Know It (played it on Karaoke Revolution and got 99%)
Man on the Moon
What's the Frequency, Kenneth?
Everybody Hurts
CreamCrazy

Seeing as it has been 30 years since R.E.M. first formed, I feel RB should acknowledge this with a 10-Pack of R.E.M.!
Bad Day
Can't Get There From Here
Cuyahoga
Disturbance At The Heron House
Driver 8
Ignoreland
Living Well Is The Best Revenge
Man On The Moon
Radio Free Europe
What's The Frequency, Kenneth?
I intentionally left out The One I Love & It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine) as I have a hunch that one of those two will be on RB3

The only songs I was SUPER bummed about not being in that 8 pack we recently got were
The One I Live (Previously in Guitar Hero World Tour)
Turn You Inside Out (In Grand Theft Auto 4)
Everybody Hurts (In Singstar)
So those 3 songs can be licensed, so get with it HMX

Bumping an old thread - but now I've downloaded and played with the current DLC - I desperately need more!
Now we have RB3 and Pro Guitar I want to learn some cool Peter Buck riffs. Here are the best PB riffs I can think of that we really, really need on Pro Guitar -
Begin The Begin
Disturbance At The Heron House
Losing My Religion
Drive
Man On The Moon
Strange Currencies
What's The Frequency, Kenneth?
Departure
Walk Unafraid
Accelerate
Man Sized Wreath
Discoverer
oh, and a special request for -
Wake Up Bomb
That just plain rocks ;)

Glad we got some R.E.M., but I crave more!
For a second pack, I'd want
Fall On Me
The One I Love
So. Central Rain
Man On The Moon
Everybody Hurts
Drive
Hard to believe we got nothing from AFTP.

R.E.M. – Man On the Moon
that hits tuesday... been a long time commin' too... now all I need is "Everybody Hurts" and I'll be totally satisfied with the R.E.M. selection.

More, I must have more! I'll laugh maniacally if I must!
I will take pretty much any and all REM, but my ultimate mega-pack would be something like:
Be Mine
Bittersweet Me
Daysleeper
Drive
Everybody Hurts
Great Beyond
Hope
Imitation of Life
Leave
Lotus
Shiny Happy People
Supernatural Superserious
There's my 12-pack.
Thanks for Man on the Moon, HMX! Would appreciate an REM song with pro-upgrade.

Oh no! They broke up! This is big news for R.E.M., which means they should get another pack! How's about:
R.E.M. 02
-Everybody Hurts
-Bad Day
-Shiny Happy People
I don't think we really need more than that. But to get those songs would be great, and would tide me over until R.E.M. eventually reunites for a reunion tour.

I don't think we really need more than that.
There are plenty of great songs for the game left, so I'm going to say we could always use more R.E.M., but I want "Bad Day" most at the moment. Even some stuff from their new album would be pretty cool, but I'll take any other R.E.M. offered to add to the excellence of the 8-pack we got last year.

You know, I was half-hoping we'd get another REM pack after the release of Part Lies, Part Truth, Part Garbage. But I still think it'd be a good idea.
This is what I'd personally pick...
The One I Love X
Shiny Happy People
Everybody Hurts X
Nightswimming
The Great Beyond
We All Go Back to Where We Belong
Also, pro upgrades of these songs
It's The End of the World As We Know It X
What's the Frequency, Kenneth? X

I was hoping for a tie in too, but with the speed of how quickly REM broke up and the time this Best Of album came out, I doubt HMX would have had time to license more REM.
If we ever do get an REM Pack 02, I'd love to see:
-The One I Love
-The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight
-Shiny Happy People
-Everybody Hurts
-Bad Day
-Imitation of Life
-Hollow Man
I don't know how Hollow Man didn't make the cut on the new best of compilation. That's one of their best songs in years.

Wait, a few posts ago, I said we only need three more songs, that's it? Disregard that, I'll take more.
Another big pack with songs spread out among a bunch of albums would be ideal, I'd just like to see more in general, though.
