When playing on line in "tug of war" or "point duel" it would be nice for the character name to be displayed instead of the account name.
I am pretty sure that I am looking at account names unless people are giving their their characters names like "fdijgfr935".
I think it would be more fun if players could see the names associated with the characters.

That was me, actually. Great games BTW - let's kick it again sometime.

Well,,,, what made me think about is the fact that we have some girls in the family that like to play and they have their own characters and they were asking me if the other players online were seeing their characters as "Destnaru" LOL.
I guess that must be the case.
If I create an account for each person then they won't be able to use the same DLC and they also won't be able to play with each other.
Unless someone knows a work around to this.
If the someone does please let me know.

Yeah, I find it weird that the character name comes up locally but not over the network. For example, I can be playing and it'll display "Melissa" or "Leroy" or whatever on my screen, but I'm pretty sure the people I'm playing against or with just see "S1ckH4nds".

This is most undoubtedly due to a stipulation in Xbox Live. That way, it's already assured that the gamertag (which has already been verified to be allowed) is displayed as opposed to something else which has not.
Don't quote me on that, but that's my theory.

That may be true for the 360 but I see no reason it should be applied to the PS3 as well.
I hope that they will patch that because it looks ridiculous.

I assumed it was because having the account name display all the time (other than at the character selection screen) was so that we can always see the account name in case we want to make a friend request.
What I'd be happy to see as a minimum is the character name show up during the initial introduction still shots (the big poses before playing the first song) and then have the account name showing up on the note chart scroller.
Either that or using the character name for everything and having both character name and account name show up on the final score chart at the end.

Character names always appear for me.

Like, I know you see avatar names on the rocker selection screen, but it'd be nice if the game gave them a proper introduction before the first gig starts.

When playing online I always select one of the characters that I have made and either "Chris" (my guitarist) or "Harp" (my drummer) shows up just before the gig starts.
I am on PS3

But does "Chris" or "Harp" show up on the other players system or do they only see "thrdeye".
I still don't know the answer to that.
I have a PS3 also.

Considering I never see other users' character names (aside from the selection screen) I think it's safe to say that they only ever see account names (followed by controller number).

OK, so I only see character names on my own system. Gotcha.

No matter what I pick, online or offline, my drummer is always Bob, and not my gamertag... cool! Don't know HOW I did it though.

Here's how it roughly works as far as I've witnessed (as a player on the PS3):
When you join a game, you can see everyone's character names on the first screen where the four players are lined up from left to right. When you get into the song itself, you see usernames, aside from your own character, whose character name you'll still see.
For example, last night I jumped on for a quickplay game. When we started I saw something like:
"Killer" on guitar
"Nooby Noobkins" (my char) on drums
"Beth" on vocals
"Monkeyboy" on bass
Once we entered the song, it showed usernames except for mine, which looked something like:
"Kirlling121" on guitar
"Nooby Noobkins" on drums
"Bsmith(1)" on vocals
"Bsmith(2)" on bass
So you can see the other characters' names, it's just brief at the beginning for whatever reason.

Yes, you'll see your own but you'll never see anyone elses, at least that's how it works on PS3. I'm assuming it's the same on both PS3 and 360?
EDIT: I just realized that a primary reason why they may not show up on the intro still-frame poses is to cover the generic "NPC" characters which aren't named. Still, it could always have used character name by preference and then defaulted back to account name for no-names...
