Yesterday I experienced my first pedal crack after playing the drums in Rock band for about two weeks now. I have a new pedal on order through EA's replacement program. Since I know this is going to happen again if I don't do anything to mod the pedal, I'm looking into ways to reinforce it.

The Billet MegaPedal seems to be a popular choice.

I'm a little concerned about the feel of it though. After my pedal cracked I managed to reinforce it with some a piece of thin wood (about 1/8") and duct tape. The problem is that when I try to heel-toe, the piece of wood has created a difference in height in relation to where my heel rests and it doesn't feel right, so I'm forced to use a "stomping" motion. I'm worried that the billet megapedal will create a similar height difference. The piece of wood I'm using doesn't extend all the way down to the heel rest, where the megapedal covers the entire pedal, so I'm hoping that's the reason for the odd feel.

So my question to all you megapedal users out there is this... did the pedal feel strange when you first installed it? Did it still feel right to use a heel-toe motion?

I've seen them on eBay with heel plates (or "hinges"). Maybe that's the solution?

I dont heel-toe, as im quick enough with just my toe movement, but i can tell you that the mega pedals (either the solid block or scew-on) are the exact same size/feel as the stock ones. I would suggest buying the $30 "block", as i call it.

Its a good purchase

I'm thinking of going with the "Complete" MegaPedal replacement, but first I'd like to know this...

Am I correct in assuming that the complete pedal replacement solution removes the possibility of the hinge cracking? The replacement pedal has a hole that the hinge pin goes through, right? So it's metal on metal. At that point, I should only have to worry about the base itself, right?

Are you referring to this pedal? If so I can answer your questions. I have this very one.

You're correct. I chose the solid pedal because I was looking for a solution that felt the most "sure," regardless of whether it cost a few bucks more. I felt like with the screw on plates, there was still the possibility that the plastic could break near the hinge, where the plate isn't offering any reinforcement. So yes, with the solid pedal replacement, you then would only have to worry about the base breaking, but I haven't really detected any excessive stress being put on the base due to the change in pedal material.

i like the looks of the footpedal in that one pic above and it fully replaces the hinge!..but for 30$...im sure i can find someone crafty to cut something out for less then 10$ and install it for me ...
i broke another footpedal last night! Whoa...either im gettin heavy footed or its something to do with that one model of the footpedal...cause i still have pedal 1 from day 1...it has black screws and washers and its lighter to push down...i dont wear shoes
the 2 footpedals that broke on me must of had a stronger spring...when i would push it down it looked like it bent more....are these replacement/fixes for every model of the pedal?
got it replaced again quickly tho a friends switched me footpedals before he returned it to walmart but this 3rd pedal is the same exact one again thats been breakin on me ...i dont like playin with my better pedal intill i can reinforce it cause i really like the one pedal for some reason...

Yeah, this is the one "with the hinge" that I was referring to. It seems that the heel plate would correct the height difference I was talking about.

But it seems that this is only two separate pieces that attach to different parts of the pedal. How does this replace the hinge? I thought the hinge was just a part of the plastic pedal that you're bolting this thing on top of.

The "hinge" is a clear piece of plastic that you screw down under both plates, thus spanning the gap between the pedal and the base. The pin is removed entirely, it's not re-inserted.

I have the model pictured, and last week my "hinge" piece of plastic broke. It looked like it had been cut by the edge of the heel plate as it rubbed over time. I still had the pin, so I just reinserted that and now I'm still rockin, although I think I liked the feel of the replacement hinge better than the pin.

I just ordered an Omega Pedal an hour ago, but I'll keep this one as a backup.

I have had the complete MegaPedal for close to two months now. It is the ultimate mid level solution. I too considered buying just one of the little plates that screw on top of the plastic base. But then you have to worry about it breaking at the hinge. Well with the complete MP you only have to worry about the base breaking.

I would recommend the complete pedal over the plate to everyone. Its well worth the extra money.

When mine broke I RMAed the original for a new one and ordered the MP at the same time. When my replacement factory pedal came I just took the pedal off put the MP on and sent the broken one back. So I ended up with a brand new base with the MP. I still have the new plastic pedal just incase something happens. (Highly unlikely I believe the MP is indestructable)

I had absolutly no problems installing mine. Mabie I got lucky with the right version. It pieced togeather flawlessly. The rebound to me seems fine. But then again I play drums. I'm use to a real kick pedal. The rebound on a factory rockband pedal is EXTREME. The spring is so powerful it requires much more effort to compress than a real pedal. The extra weight of the MP helped this for me. It makes the pedal alittle easier to compress.

Overall I would buy another MP if needed. I am highly satisfied with the purchase. It is the ultimate solution for those not wanting to spend 70-100 for a real pedal.
