I'm not going to vote, because I've only played GH3. But from what I've heard from friends and forums, GH2 seems to be the most popular choice.

i think it's guitar hero 1. guitar hero 2 was really fun but i didn't no most of the songs, and even after i played some of the songs a lot i was just getting annoyed of them. If i didnt no a song on gh1 i played it a lot and i started to like it unlike gh2.

Guitar Hero 2...
GH3 was...acceptable, but it became downright ridiculous when I reached Hard... GH2, I got stuck on Carry Me Home...and Freebird, but that's about it... Plus, GH2 was a great soundtrack...
I want to play GH1, but I don't have a Playstation...yet...

GH2 all the way for me. It is/was the BEST and ONLY choice for a 360 user before Rock Band was released. I'd sold my poor dusty PS2 long before any GH's were released. GH3 was good, but it really didn't have any magic or soul(and poor poor DLC) going for it. It just wasn't captivating for me. PLUS...if you've been at the Escapist's website, they've (Activision) pissed off Charlie Daniels!!!
Freebird at Stonehenge...great climax!

Guitar Hero 1 is an instant classic. IN my opinion it has better songs. What? Can't hammer on or pull off? I strummed the **** out of every song.
Guitar Hero 2 was an improvement, but I didn't like the music nearly as much.
Encore 80's was a ****ty piece of **** and so is Guitar Hero 3.

2 and its not even close.
I played 2 first, and once I had and went back to check 1 out I thought it was pretty bad. The ho/po's didnt work for crap.
3 is decent, but again not as good as 2. Its overcharted (nobody charts like HMX) seemingly for no other reason than to be difficult for the sake of being difficult. They give me a hard time, but its not the technical difficulty, but more because they dont seem to "match" the songs. I dont quite know how else to describe it. Also the "battle mode" thing is just dumb.

Guitar Hero 2. I like the soundtrack a lot more. They had a lot of great bands. Guitar Hero 1 would be second and GH3 16th. Had some good songs but for the most part wasn't anywhere near as being as good as GH1 or GH2. Plus like everyone else says it's over charted.

I am with the 2 above
GH1 for song, but play was way harder. Now that was not necessarily bad

I've never understood the overcharted argument for GH3, unless you're talking about TTFaTF. What sucks about Neversoft is when they'll take the exact same guitar part that appears in different parts of a song and have you play different charts for that exact part. It's lazy.
GH2 is the best, but GH1 was the **** when it came out. If you played GH2 before GH1, I can understand why you wouldn't like it. I guess you had to be there.
I wish they'd release GH1, GH2, and GH80s packs for Rock Band.

Its hard to explain the overcharting thing. It just feels wrong. I play in large part by "feeling" the rhythm of the song and letting that guide my fingers and strumming. The GH3 songs, especially near the end, just dont "feel" right. The same type of fingering sequences I hardly miss a note on in RB I fail out on in GH3, and the ho/po's in GH3 are supposedly easier than in RB.
I dont know how else to describe it other than to say from a musicality standpoint the charts dont feel like they match the songs to my ear.
I wish they'd release GH1, GH2, and GH80s packs for Rock Band.
I would buy that in a heartbeat, but I have a nasty feeling that Activision owns those rights not HMX.

gh2 mostly cause it was what i played the most. my friend has all of them hes the one that introduced my group of friends to guitar hero. and GH1 was fun as hell. but this was right when GH2 came out so i bought that. i didnt bother to buy GH3 cause i was waiting for RB to come out
glad i waited
anyway i DID beat GH3 (except for devil went down to georgia)
but still, i say GH2 ftw

Now, see, I think Cliffs of Dover is one of the best charted games in the entire series. I think One and Cult of Personality are done pretty well also. In fact, those three songs are pretty much the only reason I would ever fire up GH3. Well, that and The Metal and Welcome to the Jungle. :)
I think people hate songs like 3's & 7's and the Slipknot song because it feels like too many buttons. I can understand that, but I guess it's a choice between charting a two-button power chord and a three-button power chord. I don't mind them, but I understand what you're saying.

I voted GH2, for the features. It wasn't just about the songs, it was about what you could do with them. A lot of stuff we take for grantedin RB was first introduced in GH2.

Actually Im in full agreement with Cliffs of Dover. Hands down my favorite song to play in GH3, and probably with Welcome to the Jungle (which I feel is pathetically charted but god I love the song) are the only reasons I would play GH3 anymore at all.
Its funny you mentioned 3s & 7s because thats actually another one of the songs I enjoy playing, I feel they did a decent job of that one. I cant play Cult of Personality at all, which really annoys me because I really like that song.

GH2 is just so good for so many reasons. Best bonus songs (Dethklok, Trogdor, The Light that Blinds, Gemini... I could go on), best gameplay, great regular songs... as soon as Kansas wraps this up I may break it out for old times sake.

I've never understood this argument either. Who plays GH games for the characters/backgrounds/menus/etc? If the songs and charts are good, the game is good. GH80s is good. I mean, really, it has the Bill & Ted's song... instant win!

Yes, Play With Me is an excellent song, and I never noticed it was in Bill and Ted until I downloaded it and saw it's album. I had to rewatch the movie just to be sure.

I agree with others about GH3. The only two songs that really make me want to go back to that are "Cliffs of Dover" and "Cult of Personality".
GH2 hands down for me. Best game engine and a massive song list.
GH2 was the best, GH1 comes in second, and I can't even believe anyone voted for GH3.

I've tried all of them in order.
GH1 defined the experience, GH2 improved it tremendously with multiplayer co-op, and the only good thing that 3 had going for it was the easy-to-recognize HOPO. Some good songs in 3, but truly the boss-battle destroys the entire concept for me. And some songs are just ridiculously tough.
My vote is for 2.

Guitar Hero 2, but I Want the record to shwo I started with GH1 about 2 weeks after it came out:P I got the game instantly, and loved it. and I loved 2 even mnroe. 3 is good, but not nearly as good, and neversoft, while making a good game out of it, ripped the soul out of the series and now its only "good" instead of "great".
Though I will agree. Cliffs of Dover is ****ing awesome as hell. Its probably my favorite song to play in The Entire GH franchise, as well as Rock Band with the POSSIBLE exception of Sweet Child O' Mine and Stop! I also agree with the poster that said One and Cult were great in GH3. They sure were.
I do understand people thinking some songs were over charted (Im looking at you, Pride and Joy) but I thought they were generally fine. I havent played on hard so i cant speak for those who dont play on an expert level and had to make the switch to hard for GH3, but on Expert, I thought everything from a difficulty PoV was fine (with the exception of Raining Blood, it really is a hard song for those who arent REALLY good at the game). Oh and Im very disapointed that Knights of Cydonia is so out of sync after the synth part. Its such a fun chart, but man the syncing is so bad i cant keep a combo for **** after the synth part
My Biggest complaint with GH3 from a gameplay point of view though is the hammer on and pull offs. not the engine, that was fine, if not even a little TOO generous, but whoever charted the songs deciding to make what notes hammer ons and what not. There are soooo many songs in that game where for absolutely no reason that during a ridiculous solo thats fairly doable perfectly with practice that theres one or 2 random notes that need to be strummed, or songs like story of my life where its 2 hammer ons, then 1 note strum, then a hammer on for the next one, but then a strum on the final note.... Either make it ALL hammer ons or None.

Took the words right out of my mouth. That's why I voted for GH2 despite GH3 having my two favorite songs in all of the GH games: "Cliffs of Dover" and "Impulse".

Lets say it easy...
Gameplay
GH2 > GH3 > GH1
(Very good > too easy HOPOs > HOPO dont work)
Tracklist (my Thoughts)
GH2 > GH1 > GH3
LoopyChew
04-08-2008, 09:17 AM
The tracklist is a difficult one. All three have awesome tracks in it (1: I Love Rock and Roll, Take Me Out, More Than a Feeling, Killer Queen, Iron Man, Sharp Dressed Man, Smoke on the Water... 2: Free Bird, Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo, Last Child, Sweet Child o' Mine, Stop, Dead!--say what you want, but the charting is awesome... 3: Paint It Black, Cliffs of Dover which is possibly the greatest song I never would have heard of were it not for GH, Knights of Cydonia...) but I have to say that I really miss the tracklist for GH1. Like, really. Maybe because it's the only one not available for X360, and unplayable on my HDTV.
Enginewise, GH2 takes the cake over all else, what with the introduction of co-op play and improved HOPOs. GH3 goes too overboard with HOPOs and timing in general. Also, battle mode sucks.

Also Izzy Sparks looked a hell of a lot more, well, Izzyish.

Very tough choice, they all have songs I love to play
I guess best game would be GH2. GH1 is very close, followed by GH3 and GH80s (only because GH80s only has 30 songs). But seriously, this is like choosing between chocolate or vanilla ice cream, it's all good. :)

GH3 is my favourite game mechanics wise... RB is by far the most fun...
RB is much too easy on Guiter tho... as I stormed through it all the way until the final song on expert without failing once and 5 starring most of it...
song wise... I'm a black guy and an urban music artist... I'm a music lover tho and good music always prevails... GH 2 had an epic list... I got hooked playing Psychobilly Freakout, War pigs, and Crazy on you... RB has a list for everyone to enjoy... I like playing Boston, Run for the hills, even Main offender cause the Hives are sweet...
Downloaded that 70's group pack cause it's trippy as hell... and Downloaded Metallica which isn't really my thing... but the challenge is awesome (I can't do any of them.. lol)
I WANT MORE RADIOHEAD... I WANT RADIOHEAD ALBUMS... there my favourite band...
GH 3 is insanely difficult... but it's much more forgiving with the notes... making it playable... and it pushes you to improve onthe harder levels... and once you "get it" people get mesmerized and enjoy watching you play...
RB owns all for it's DLC tho... just amazing... and it's the best party game of all time... for Xbox for sure... Smash Bros is up there as well tho..
