View Full Version : The Omega Pedal: Final Thoughts

Hey everyone. I posted a review of the pedal a few weeks back (too lazy to link), and I wanted to share my final thoughts after having it for about one month. I know there was a snazzy video review up, but he had the pedal for a few days when he posted it so I feel like everyone needs a more in-depth opinion.

1) Once you figure out how to adjust the pedal to fit your style, and (depending on how you play) adjust your style to fit the pedal, you shouldn't have ANY problems with its functionality.

Its solid, its easy to use, and should be a perfect replacement for the standard pedal. After some initial difficulty, I figured out how to completely eliminate double hits (lower the angle of the beater, and put the spring tension about 3/4 of the way up).

3) Triples, doubles, heel-toe hits: all of them are easier/possible due to the versatility of the pedal. Its fast (almost too fast early on) and responsive.

4) The NUMBER ONE benefit of the pedal, in my opinion, is the peace of mind (to to be confused with the song) that it affords you. You don't have to constantly worry about letting other people use your pedal or making micro-adjustments to your own play to be sure you aren't putting stress in the wrong area. Its a big metal plate, sitting on a piece of metal. (P.S. YOU CAN KEEP YOUR SHOES ON!)

5) Sheridan Technologies (the company that makes the pedal), has excellent customer service. The pedal rep (Alex Moon) answers your e-mail questions and offers advice. This is pretty important.

The only real drawback to the pedal are the "proto-foam" tips that go on the beater. They get shredded after a week or so. You'll notice vibration and extra noise when the tip starts to fray. I had to order 10 extra tips ($8.95 by paypal, they came in 2 days) from them to be safe. I've adjusted the angle and contact point in every conceivable way, yet nothing prevents them from slowly tearing. Its a small price to pay for continuous rocking, and I don't mind having to spend less than $10 every 4-5 months on new tips. Hopefully I'll find a prefect sweet spot one day, but I fear it doesn't exist.

In my opinion, this pedal (or any pedal like it) is nearly a requirement for prolonged drumming on the expert level. The plastic simply cannot hold up to anything but the most careful usage. I've been able to gold star 3 new songs since I got the Omega Pedal, and I'm REAL close to finally getting Don't Fear The Reaper (gotta sit down for a practice session one of these days). Overall, I'm very satisfied and I feel it was worth every penny I spent on it.

Dude, thanks for the "longterm" review. I've had my pedal for about a month as well and can confirm everything you mentioned. However, I still am on my original beater foam pad. It is fraying a bit, but that's all. I'm sure I don't play as much as most. I tend to put in maybe 10 or so hours a week on the RB drums.

Also in regards to the foam piece, maybe I just play a bit softer after using the plastic pedal for 3 months or so. I did break like 2 or 3 of those thing as I'm a toe up player. Also I play VERY hard on the real drums so it took me a while to learn the gental touch for RB. But then again, maybe I'm just lucky with the foam batch that I got.

Anyway, thanks again for the overview. Great job!!:)

About how long would you say they generally take to ship? On the site right now they have "Most orders ship within 2 weeks", so if I ordered it Friday, will I actually be waiting another 2 and a half weeks, or is that just their absolute maximum waiting time? I'm very excited about getting one myself, and since the foam beaters are the only thing that anyone has named as a con, it just makes me more eager to get it.

I just ordered mine Sunday night, Sent an e-mail to them this afternoon (Monday) to see when it would ship, and they said should be end of the week, and if not then def. by start of next week. So that should give you an idea how long you would need to wait.

I have logged about 15 hours on mine so far and no sign of the foam beater tearing or anything.

I also 100% recommend the Omega.

Good review. I said just about all of that in my "snazzy video review":) Yes I did the review the same day I received it, yet I have logged many hours on the pedal. I have now owned mine about 2 weeks.

When a company gets wind you are reviewing them, they want the review done right away. As a reviewer I find it important for you to see me unbox it and hook it up. Anyone can say something worked out of the box, but you will not believe it until you see it.

I love this pedal and The Destroyer as well. As a drummer the Omega pedal is more me because of the setup of the pedal and the pro adjustments.

Trust me if things changed I would tell everyone. I am always interacting with people on my review threads. Great review of a great pedal:)

We got ours today...and my goodness it just makes the drum rig look all that more 'legitimate' (especially if you have a real bicycle style drum throne) We got ours in just a little over a week. $17+ shipping that's gotta hurt but again, it's all about peace of mind...especially if you throw a lot of Rock Band parties.

Unfortunately, although I got to assemble it, I haven't had a chance to play it...the kids are too busy having fun!
