So, its confirmed that there will be a wired guitar for the 360, but how long is the wire. If its long enough, then what difference does it make. The GH2 wire was tiny but my guess is that the 360 one will be pretty long, so who cares? If anyone who has seen the guitars has any idea how long the wires are, let me know. Thanks.

From videos they look like they are more than long enough, I don't think there is going to be much of a problem, Harmonix knows what they are doing, they are going to make the cords as long as necessary.

Yeah this is f'in lame. How much more could it be for wireless? If Neversoft did it for $10 more, why can't HMX?

Boo-hoo, let's all whine about it some more, because we aren't done from the last time.
Anyways, a USB cable can run for 5m before it needs to hit another device or a hub. The great thing is, with it being USB, if you want it longer (up to 5m) you just get an extension from office max and voila, instant long cord.

I may sound like a complete jackass for doing this, but I'm seriously thinking about just buying everything separately, instead of the bundle. That way I can get my own damn wireless guitar.

Strange, I'm buying the guitar separate from the game so I can actually get a wired guitar (getting the PS3 version).
Just feels so much more..right.

I wish Harmonix would go about this bundle business a little differently. Why not have everything packaged separately, but offer a price bundle for buying everything together. You know, like, "Buy all 4 instruments and save 20%." And that way, you could still buy the wireless guitar in the "bundle" by paying $10 on top of what you would pay for the "bundle" with the wired guitar. Otherwise, if things go according to plan like they are now, buying everything separately will cost approximately $40 more.

It depends on what type of batteries the controller is using if it's the same as the sixaxis then i don't see a problem with it as you could recharge and still play it like you do the sixaxis.. if it's standard batteries then yeah I would rather have a wired controller.

You've really experienced problems w/ current gen (360, ps3, wii) wireless controllers?
anyway I've had my red octane wireless ps2 controller for about 10 months ...lots of usage never had a single problem...yes i do change the batteries about once a month...definitely worth it for me to pay xtra for wireless personal preference i guess...as far as functionality I dont see any dropoff in performance going from my wired to wireless

Not if you like sound quality. Digital wireless (ie. game controllers) just induces lag. A very small lag, but one nonetheless. It isn't very susceptible to noise, though, and can hop away from noisy/busy channels. Analog wireless, however, is VERY susceptible to noise, and needs to be significantly louder than the ambient radio waves. Even then, you will still pick up some radio noise, which then becomes audio noise.
Besides, a truly talented rocker learns to do backflips while wired

It pisses me off the PS3 bundle has a wireless guitar and the X360 version comes with a wire. =\ I'm gonna end up buying it ALL seperate.. for.. 249.96 if I get the Mic.. or 219.97 without.. Shucks.. Just freaking sucks right there. I would just get the bundle, but I hate wired controllers on next gen consoles. I'm fine playing Snes or N64 with cords, but I wanna rock wirelessly this gen. And the Fender controller is just too nice not to buy wirelessly.. ^_^

That makes no sense. I'd have to imagine that the ps3 wireless guitar will still have a wire to recharge and pair like the six axis. the only problem may be that the supplied cable will be short, but im sure an extension will be a lot better than buying a wired guitar, if theyre even going to offer it.

Okay. It looks like these are the 2 main pros/cons for the wireless:
PRO: There's no wire to get in the way.
CON: Uses a hella amount of batteries, which wastes valuable money to be spent on DLC, and other necessities of life. Also, in the time it takes you to switch out the batteries in the guitar, you could have played that much more of the game, and when you get back and unpause the game, you'll miss a few notes.
Your call, but, and though I don't like it, I'm going wired. Plus, the drums and mic are wired anyway, so what the hell.

Well it might not use batteries it might just be like the Sixaxis you know rechargeable but i highly doubt it , awesome if it was.

Alright, I have a question. I'm looking to buy a 2nd wired guitar instead of a wireless one but I can't find any place that sells them separately. I've checked Amazon, Best Buy & Gamestop's websites. Anyone know if they are planning to sell these as a stand-alone product? Or are they only selling the wireless by itself?

I'm not sure if they are selling the wired guitar by itself. But I have a solution for you. I am getting the bundle, but I want a wireless guitar... so I was planning to buy a wireless guitar same day I buy the bundle, then sell the wired guitar. So, hit me up and I'll sell you mine if you want it.

They should be available separately (otherwise how would you replace broken instruments). I think they just don't have preorders for them yet, since pricing and availability hasn't been announced yet.

I'm getting RB for PS3. As of now, I'm gonna go with the wireless bundle, that's fine I guess. But I will be getting a wired guitar controller seperately as well. Which is what I will be using most of the time, and on occasions when a bass player comes to join me, they can use my wireless.

has it even been confirmed that there is gonna be a wireless guitar AT RELEASE for 360? i'm still not sure what i'm gonna do. my first thought was that i had to have wireless. but now that i think about it, if the cord is long enough, it will be nice not having to worry about recharging every couple of days or so. however, having the wireless freedom would be awesome. idk, i'm still waiting for all the different options available before i make any definite decisions.

im quoting myself so hopefully people read it again and realize how stupid it is talking about buying a wired guitar. now i may be wrong and wireless versions wont have a detachable plug and play USB cable, but right now the signs point to that design. I mean there are no wired versions for sale for either platform...wouldnt you think because they can be used without battery power through the cable for the wired feel, and also the convenience of unhooking and going wireless? i dont know. maybe im being optimistic but that seems the most logical to me.
i think it's unfortunate the developers have to pull this inferior guitar in the bundle tactic to recoup the money they had to spend to go wireless, but you cant blame them. blame MS.
for the bundle i think they wanted to keep the pricing point at under $200, and they would be cutting themselves by putting a wireless in the xbox bundle that they had to pay extra to develop (how many people would buy a 2nd wireless guitar at full price if they already had a wireless from the bundle? many xbox owners already have a 2nd guitar from the other game). im sure they looked at bumping the bundle price up but that under $200 mark was probably key.

YES. If this is true, then wireless is the absolute, definite way to go. I mean, if you can just plug and unplug the cord, then yeah, wireless would be the best way, because then you could just unplug the cord and you'd be charged and ready to go. When the battery gets low, just plug the wire back in.
However, I believe this design seems unlikely, due to the fact that the GH II guitar didn't have this convenience.
What do you guys think?

As long as the PS3 guitar uses the same battery as the PS3 controllers use, then yes, they would most likely have the usb cord that can plug into the guitar to charge it up.
But, I'll still choose wired. I'm much more confident in hardwires than wireless. Hah, I used to play TFC and CS all the time years back, and I remember getting so pissed when my mouse battery died mid-battle. I'd just stop moving all of a sudden, somebody would run by, turn and look at me, and blow me away, or take a crowbar to the face.

Ever use a 360 play and charge kit? Same features, as long as you have a rechargable battery pack, just like that you got wired/wireless controller. I'm pretty sure the Guitars will work on the same aspect, in this case plug into where a regular quitar would plug up, charging while you rawk.

im unfamiliar with the xbox, but ive been told that the play charge is the exact same thing with the detachable cable. i wouldnt think it matters whether or not they use the same battery as the controllers. you just have to build it that way. i still dont see why you think the detachable cable is inferior to a wire you cant remove. what do you consider to be hard-wired? a soldered connection? do you solder the connections to your receiver, tv, stereo, etc?

He's talking about wired connections being more reliable than wireless. With play and charge kits, you just get your power over a wire. What some of us want is a wired data connection so we don't have to trust the wireless. The wire itself can be removable.

The batteries for the wireless guitars will last a long time. I've had batteries in my wireless guitars for the PS2 versions of GH and haven't had to change them in months. You won't be changing out batteries as much as you think.

i dont understand. youre telling me when i have the controller plugged in it's not the same as a wired controller? because i thought all along the data was being transmitted over the wire connection because i saw that you could even use the six axis on a PC with the usb cable.

Whether it does or it doesn't, I'm not entirely sure either way. If it transfers data through the usb great, it would probably be equivalent to a wired controller, if not oh well. If someone wants a wired connection, why would they pay more for a wireless controller and then use it plugged in anyways?

You are correct. It appears somebody else was misinformed and stated this incorrectly. So for PS3, plugging it into USB makes it a USB device. To my knowledge the play and charge kit for the 360 does NOT do this.

nevermind i found the answer to my own question:
"By using a USB cable, the PS3 controller can be swapped seamlessly from wireless to wired, and can be charged automatically."

so im not going crazy, it's not just a charging wire. of course this whole argument will be moot if the guitar is not designed this way :o

Well, it's extra hardware. MS went with wireless and force feedback hardware, whereas Sony went with motion sensing, USB, and battery charging. The battery charging takes up the most room, and is the most expensive, which is why MS left it as an option.
I just use rechargeable batteries and have extras charged at all times, so I just saved some money on my controllers.

Hmm, just checking Gamestop, you're right, they aren't selling an individual wired guitar yet for PS3?? I knew they weren't in the bundle, but for some reason I thought they were going to individually.
Which in turn, makes this all completely pointless if there isn't going to be one. Guess it'll make that choice easier. USB extensions might not even be necessary if the charge cords are long enough.

ARRGGH!!! HEAD... GOING... TO... EXPLODE!!! I'm just gonna get the freakin' wired guitar with the 360 bundle. Is it really that big of a deal if it's wired or wireless? I can see if you absolutely have to stand like 20 feet from your TV, then yeah, get the wireless for sure.
But if you're just going to be standing a few feet from the television, then get the wired and quit complaining.
