It's a shame that there are no straight Instrumentals in the game. I know that the concept is a group experience but instrumentals are a big part of almost any great Rock Band's repertoire. I wonder if this is something HMX has thought about and ruled out or if there is a possiblility that we'll see some in the future?
Great HMX Instrumentals from Guitar Hero:
Jessica
YYZ
Frankenstein
Misirlou
Psychobilly Freakout (99.9% instrumental)
New Instrumentals I'd love to see:
Nottingham Lace - Buckethead
Apostrophe - Frank Zappa
Watermelon In Easter Hay - Frank Zappa
Peaches En Regalia - Frank Zappa
Son of Mr. Green Genes - Frank Zappa
Mountain Jam - Allman Brothers
In Memory of Elizabeth Reed - Allman Brothers
Earth Jam - Bela Fleck & The Flecktones
Europa - Santana
Soul Sacrifice - Santana
The Audience is Listening - Steve Vai
Miss Tinkle's Oveture - Umphrey's McGee
Nothing Too Fancy - Umphrey's McGee
Jajunk Pt. I - Umphrey's McGee
Far Beyond the Sun - Yngwie Malmsteen
To Live Is to Die - Metallica
Saturn - Praxis
Wormwood - moe.
Launchpad - Particle
The Elevator - Particle
Silly Putty - Stanley Clarke or Primus
Why Can't We All Just Samba? - Steve Kimock Band
Scuttle Buttin' - Stevie Ray Vaughn
Little Wing - Stevie Ray Vaughn
Wipe Out - The Surfaris
Maggot Brain - Funkadelic
Satch Boogie - Joe Satriani
These are just a few of my favorites but there are tons of songs out there that would be a blast to play.
What are your suggestions?

Without vocals, it is just Guitar hero with drums.
Why bother, it is not like there is a shortage of songs with lyrics.
While I play all instruments, it just would not be Rockband without a vocal option.
Vocals are the only TRUE and REAL thing in the game.
Playing a toy guitar has nothing on belting out a song from the heart.

And by that logic Rock Band is just Singstar with a toy guitar and drums. My understanding was that Rock Band was a way to simulate the live music/Rock n' Roll experience through a video game. Part of that experience is a whole host of great instrumentals.
At my house we have a big Rock Band night once or twice a month. There is one guy who enjoy's singing and if he's not there the mic usually doesn't get picked up.
The last comment is only true if you enjoy singing....otherwise belting out a song from the heart has nothing on pounding out a great drum fill or fake guitar solo!:D
Thanks for the response though. I was very curious to see how this would be recieved.

I guess a 3-pack wouldn't hurt,but I prefer song with lyrics.
All for this. and hey, why not get some songs in there without guitar? And who really needs the drums anyway? let's just get some songs with no note charts at all in RB.[/ubersarcasm]

Actually, you bring up something that exemplifies what I want to be the difference between RB and GH. I think, as to not step on each others toes, GH should be a game that has MOSTLY instrumental songs... that way we don't have a lot of overlap and they aren't both dipping in the same pool.

Just to clarify, when we first got RB on day one, we had a big party.
No one wanted to try the mic.
Since we had lots of people there, we needed to fill all positions.
Some tried it, and they were, well not very good.
I finally gave it a shot, not expecting very much, and certainly not wanting to embarass myself.
Well, after trying several songs I found some that I actually could sing.
Now you can't pry the mic from me.
The problem with vocals, is not many people can sing all the songs, I know I cant.
But when you find the songs that you CAN sing, it is sheer bliss.
Playing the bass and singing is the most fun I can have with the game now, or on some songs, when just singing, I just turn around and watch the band play while I am singing.
There is real satisfaction nailing a song without even looking at the screen.
I saw Singstar amped, and thought about picking it up, but the thought of just singing alone just seemed like it would be very lacking.
While I would not be against instrumentals in the game, I honestly don't think it will ever happen.
Some Satriani would be great, Cliffs of Dover, or YYZ.

You hit the nail write on the head bro.I love not looking at the screen while singing, but pretty much the only song I know ALL the lyrics too is Reptilia...which happens to be one of the hardest to sing lol

Love the sarcasm but honestly. I think it would be cool in the long, long term to have a great guitar solo like Eruption from VH and a great drum solo type song like Moby Dick from Zeppelin in addition to a feature to set up large custom setlists like a real concert with several full band songs, an instrumental or two, a guitar solo, drum solo, etc...
Again....probably never happen or at least not for a long while.

Agreed...and I wouldn't want to see tons of instrumentals all at once just throw one in with a random three pack every couple of months or a band specific three pack two songs with vocals & one instrumental.

I would love it although if you are going to do Wipeout! you have to go with the Dick Dale and Gary Hoey version - it kicks ass!!!
Also any instrumental work by Eddie (er hum. . . Edward) Van Halen and
I second YYZ by Rush. . . that tunes ROCKS!!!!

If they put instrumentals in Rockband they would need to combine them with another song.
For example:
Anberlin's song, Debut (is an instrumental) that leads into their next song Godspeed.

Oh, come on, you have some Zappa instrumentals and you don't mention Willie the Pimp? Well, it has some vocals, but only in the beginning.
I'm all for instrumentals and songs that lack an instrument, since some albums couldn't be included otherwise(like Master of Puppets or Rust in Peace(Dawn Patrol has no guitar)).

I'd love to see Metallica - Call of the Ktulu and Porcupine Tree - Wedding Nails. Rodrigo y Gabriela would be pretty cool too.

If I could choose only one, it'd be YYZ, for the simply epic drumming.
Did you know it was the airport code for Rush's hometown of Toronto? They set the beat of the song to the Morse code of YYZ. Just an interesting fact I felt like sharing.

Orion by Metallica.

Any Allman Brothers instrumental would be great. I'm all for a 35 min Mountian Jam or a 15 min In Memory of Elizabeth Reed. Even Little Martha would be great for a two guitarist set up.

This seems like an odd thing to ask for.
Is there any way we can write out the mic? This four player thing is killing me.
If we're going to do instrumentals and cut the mic from time to time, lets get some hip hop and cut out those guitars every once in a while. The mic and drum guy can handle things.
Oh, and just for variety's sake, since that seems to be the indulgence here, lets get some acapella stuff in here too and have JUST singing.
Nothing spices up a group game quite like solos.
There are a LOT of amazing songs that use a full band, it seems a little early to be cutting one feature from the game to endorse this request.
