Those of you from last night should know exactaly what I'm talking about. For those that don't.
Last night I was posting on here about the fact that I easily beat Thrasher, four stars at that. But I was unable to complete Ride the Lightning.
Well just now, I completed Ride the Lightning with four stars, knocking that out of the park leaves me with no songs that will leave me with a "new" message when I play bonus songs... because we all know NEW songs are annoying as hell.
As well as this being a way for me to post that I did, this. People who are having trouble with certain songs post here and I'm sure me or someone else will be able to help you get thru it. BTW if you could also if you pull it off let us know c'mon, you should be proud of completing something you were previously stuck on. Who cares what people think about it, just so long as you feel accomplished. That is why I posted this.
As for beating Ride the Lightning, thanks VsTerminus on making me realize the song as a whole is a beast, and focus on hitting what I need to get by and NOT panicing.
Everyone post away

This was the bane of my existence for a while... best I can say is just sit and practice it and the solo together over and over. Being better at the solo means you go in with more room for error on that bridge.

Grats to you! I've been stuck at the same position you had been. You've given me added motivation to put "Ride the Lightning" *NEW* behind me.
I don't find that song much fun to play generally, so I keep avoiding it. Everything up until the solo isn't particularly challenging so I think the problem with this one for me (and maybe a few other people out there) is some kind of a Solo-Onset Anxiety Disorder. :D

ok, previously I only tried practising the bridge, with little success. I'll go practise it when I have spare time (stupid tests).
thanks :)

If you can telle what you come out with on the solo I could help you, a lot better than this next advice.
If you alt strum the Bridge practice the rhythm
If you don't alt strum strum as fast as the game warrants and suck up the pain, I do that and carry a 4x thru.

I suffer from the same thing. Right before the solo, I paused and calmed down, and on the last zig-zag part that tore me to shread I got 4x on it, only difficult part was the B|R|G|R|B|R|B, also the not so typical zigzags.

I have a funny problem, I have all the DLC, but I'll never beat 2 songs, they are war pigs and notb, it's not because I can't, but I don't like those songs so won't play them.. I only played that black crowes song because I'd never heard it or else there would be 3
But I got them for free so I don't care lol

Im stuck at about 20%, hah. On guitar
it can get through the first like 10% no problem, but at the mark i start failing, it goes
G, G, B, (o), (y), (g), repeat
The ( ) means hammer on/pull off type notes.
I know its not that hard, just need to practise it.
*EDIT* as far as the RMA, i just did that. And i dont feel like it. plus i have another semi deceant kit, i just dont feel like swapping. Its been a lazy week

Well just now, I completed Ride the Lightning with four stars
Only four? For shame.
I actually responded to your thread, lastnight, with a decent way to get through the solo. But it went unread. I'm glad that "not panicking" was advice that helped you. I personally feel that that particular "advice" is somewhat of a given. I don't panic with rhythm[/video] games, unless someone threatens to shoot a family member for every trill I miss. Then I'd probably stress, a bit.
To follow topic... I'm not really "stuck" on anything. Don't take that as me bragging. But I've pretty much got a grip on everything thus far [minus that damn Shockwave, which I'll eventually bump up to 05*s. Maybe. Some day]. Thrasher is the only song I've heard a lot about... and truth be told, I don't have a desire to play or hear it.

Microsoft's Xbox 360.
Don't worry about not reading the post. It was probably one of those strategies that works for no-one else but myself, anyway.
So, I have to ask: did you scrape through the RTL solo by the skin of your teeth? Or did you above the flashing red?
Zeleii
04-08-2008, 04:44 PM
I finished Yellow, after some practice the triplettes were simple... again, lol.
Sweeps I passed in yellow, Solo A and B were top yellow, C was low yellow, Break worked me up to high, solo D kicked me flashing E brought me up to half Yellow, activated overdrive and owned F the end I choked up a bit but finished yellow hit 77%.
Wasn't hard really
BTW Thrasher is a Slayer rip-off band, and a bad one at that. I dont like D.O.A. but for some reason Blinded by Fear stuck
Exayle
04-08-2008, 04:51 PM
My little brother insisted that we [he] buy Blinded by Fear. It's a fairly easy chart, and the song is a lot more memorable than Thrasher or D.O.A. . I may pick up the other two someday, if I'm reaching the bottom of the DLC-barrel... but like you've said, Blinded by Fear is where it's at.
Triplets... I thought triplets were notes of three [which has to be strummed], ala [i]Nightmare? Are you talking about the 03-note pull-offs [OBY, BYR, YRG, etc.]?
Also, I was gonna' ask; how close were you to 05 stars? I imagine not too far.

i had been stuck on RTL (exp-guit) for a number of weeks but finally passed it by the skin of my teeth.
then i had to go an download the thrash pack, haha. (i am a fan of the music.)
now i'm stuck miserably on thrasher. farthest i've gotten so far is 83% (failed juet before the end of what i consider the hardest part of the second solo.)
my problem with this song is that the solo isnt the only thing that gives me trouble. its so damn fast and hard to keep a streak on that i barely get any energy and cant really recover to the top of the green at any point to set myself up to be healthy for the solos.
guess i'll get there sooner or later. mostly focusing on exp-drums (DFTR) for the time being trying to get Animal! status.

For most people fast strumming is an issue, as for me, simple. But the solos I see where you're coming from... On Thrasher get the easy OD and use when you're about to fail out the second solo.
BTW why does it seem that Thrasher and Ride the Lightning lyrics fit the guitar for the song.
Ride the Lightning after the solo SOMEONE HELP ME! OH PLEASE GOD HELP ME!
Thrasher FEEL ADRENALINE RUSH. Before the solos BOW DOWN! TO THE! THRASHER! Those solos do make you bow down to them, lol

When I was first playing through hard, I was also stuck on Suffragette City, but ended up passing it only to get stuck on Enter Sandman. I found that if you just ignore the orange fret for most of the song, it's easy to pass. You can go back to it later for a better score when you get better.
For Expert, I had a tough time with the bridge after the solo in RTTH too. I just did the best I could in the solo to keep my bar up, then ignored all chords and just hit the green notes until the white notes came up, and tried really hard to hit those. Got 'em, then went right into overdrive and made it through. I've passed every song on Expert, except Ride The Lightning, most with 5 stars (including GG&HT), but I have a really tough time with sections like the bridge in RTTH and 3's & 7's.
Now I just have to figure out the freaking solo in Ride The Lightning and I'll be satisfied. I can make it about 70% of the way through, but those weird zig-zag-whatever-the-hell-they-are things totally slay me. 10 more seconds of OD and I could probably make it. Grrrrr.

just be glad we dont have TTFATF on this game. Hard songs on rock band are TERRIBLE for DLC. It just makes the game stupid and competitive. Which is making rock band now look like the next guitar hero. o.O

When I wasn't so good at GH, parts like that were tough for me as well. In the song electric eye in rock the 80s, there's a section just like it except faster that'd give me huge trouble, but got me good as that as well. Keep on trying and you'll get it =]

And so since nov. i have been playing its drums. I recently started guitar because i want to be a little more rounded in the rhythm/music gamer. Im also a bit of an achievement hoe...heh...and if i can get another 110 (hard/expert/100%/100%upstrum) thats sweet, you know?

As far as your achievements go...
100% Expert Guitar - Roxanne, or if you don't wanna buy that, I got mine on El Scorcho (before I bought The Police pack)
100% Expert Bass - Learn to Fly, it's really easy once you do it a few times.
For Gimme Shelter, like Zeleii said, practice Gimme Three Steps or any other chord heavy song (read: The Police). Shouldn't take you long.

Glad to hear it! I actually had a MUCH easier time with Suffragette City on Expert as well. Cleared it on the first try, with a little overdrive help toward the end of the song. I still haven't 5*'d it though, but I haven't tried in about a week, so maybe I've gotten good enough.
I've been practicing the hell out off GG&HT because I'm taking my Rock Band kit out of town and having a family party with it. I wanna do something impressive, and what's more impressive than 10,000,000,000 hammer-ons in the span of 10 minutes. Getting between 89 and 92% right now...so there's still some parts I really need to work on, but I would imagine after I practice it enough, most of the other songs should turn into a cakewalk.
GG&HT doesn't help with trills though...or quad zig-zags (grrrr RTL).
Anyways, keep plucking away at it, you've come really far in just a few days.....from stuck on Enter Sandman on Hard, to clearing up to Suffragette City on Expert. Job well done!

Good stuff. Good luck getting better for the fam, heh. Thats what i did with the drums. Friggin beasted some songs for my 'rents. I figure im gonna puch through expert as much as i can, until i get stuck, and then drop down and practice the hardest songs on hard, and then pop back up. Sorta what i did for drums. Welll, ill keep everyone updated. See how well my progress keeps coming.
I'm at the exact same point you're at right now, I just beat suffragette city on expert on my 1st try last night while I still haven't gotten 4 stars on hard...not that I play it that often, it makes me feel like my hand is gonna fall off.
The main difference between us is that it only took me a couple tries to get through enter sandman on hard but I was stuck forever on flirtin' with disaster. I'm surprised you breezed right through that.
