A friend of mine who I recently showed Rock Band (to which he is now obsessed with) asked me this question today and I don't know the answer:
In solo mode, are you able to design the other characters in your band as well as yourself and buy clothes and instruments for them and everything?

If someone could help me out here, that'd be grand.

Most likely. That would make sense to me.

I'll try and find something to confirm that for you.

Yeah, I looked all over (in and out of Rock Band's website) and I couldn't find anything.

I feel like it would be the complete opposite, that they would all just be standard people, or maybe randomly made characters, I have a feeling that you can only create your own characters, not computer characters.

I hope this isn't the case. There are so many costumes and things for customization that it would be a shame not to be able to decorate your band members with their own looks, instruments, actions, etc. I mean, the possibilities are endless. I really don't want dead, clearly computer generated characters like in GH...

I'd be willing to bet that it will be like some EA games (i.e. NBA Street, etc.). Throughout the career mode, you will get to choose from a multitude of people to be in your band, and as you progress, you can switch out those who are in your band, and get better people. Like for example: from the get-go, you make your character, then get to pick a dude to be your drummer, another to be your bassist, then singer. They each look different and have a unique style about them, and they have different signature moves.

Anyway, I'm just rambling, but I thought it might be an interesting idea.

That would be cool. I can see it:

You finish playing an awesome gig at Pepsi Center, and soon after Neil Peart phones you up and asks if you need a drummer.

Take Neil into your band for $2500 a week and kick out Freddy Smith ($1200 / week) (Yes) (No) ?

You get the opportunity to take on more highly-skilled bandmembers, but they cost money. You can save money by taking on cheap guys, but you take the risk of them performing poorly.

That would be cool, and add an element of strategy to the solo career.

Hmmm, those last two are pretty cool. I didn't really like the idea of you like getting like a profesional rock star to be in you band because that seems kinda tacky to me. Eh, I still hope you can initially create your own and maybe throughout switch if you want to later...

*gasp*

What if you sould trade your characters with your friend's characters? Like if I made a drummer and my friend really liked how he looked, but I really liked the way his guitarist looks, we'd be able to do a swap. That'd be so sweet!! :D

agreed. no matter how much I admire my friend Dean's guitar playing in Track Fighter (http://www.myspace.com/trackfighter), I'd never kick out one of my close friends/band members to replace him with dean. That's just not effin' cool.

This, however, IS effin' cool.

I still can't find it, although I'm pretty sure that the official/near-official answer is "No, you cannot customize your band members in solo career". I'm still (casually) trying to find that though.

I'm a lil late to this convo, but I remember talking about this in another thread.

The idea, or guess, that I came up with was that you'll probably be able to choose the "style" of your band. You may not be able to customize the bandmates fully, but you can choose how they look for the most part.

For example, you want an emo looking band, a death metal band, a hair band, an old school 70's rock band, grunge, etc.

I think that makes the most sense.

From the build at E3 you can customize your character(s). I dont think HMX will let us down on this. They want to give us the maximum gaming experience with this game and I have faith that they are going to deliver.

Basically from what I gathered. You get to create each member of your band. Which would be super awesomeness.

I understand your thinking, but I think you misinterpreted (spelling?).

We know everyone in the band can create and customize their character. The question is, while in solo career mode, can you customize the other bandmates? Or will you get preset fake people thrown into your band without choosing them.

No its cool I get that. Im saying, possibly we will be able to at least use the ones we create in multiplayer for solo...maybe...kinda...yeah...

Ahh I get ya. Say you started a band career with a friend. He created a character. Now, in single player mode, you'd like to throw his character in there as your drummer or whatever. Sounds cool to me, unfortunately probably won't happen though :(

Eh, who knows...It could, it could not. Whatever, I am just gonna make Trent Reznor as my lead singer because I doubt they will have anything that remotely looks like me.

You should have seen my Saints Row character...looked TOO MUCH like me.

I've been keeping my eyes open on this topic for a while, and I've seen no official answer. Lots of discussion, but just wanted to throw out there that I don't think a HMX employee has yet to answer this question.

Also, I can tell you how it worked in Karaoke Revolution Party, which had a similiar character creator in it. Out of the box there were like 10 pre-made characters. On top of them, you could then create your own named characters, customizing everything from their hair to their clothes, and those newly created characters would just be added to the "pool" of singers you could choose from. This stretched accross all modes. So quickplay, multiplayer, solo, whatever, you could just grab any of the characters that had ever been created. I'd be surprised if Rock Band wasn't more or less the same story.

I'd also be shocked if you didn't at least get to choose the clothes your bandmates wore. I'll be pissed if I a 80s hair band guitarist is paired up with some emo vocalist just because that's what I happen to be stuck with. Boo to that.

It would make sense to let it work either way. I know that *I* plan on creating a my own character for each solo mode, I should be able to add them as computer characters in my band if I want to.

Of course, to be fair they wouldn't get any money(spendable by you), so if you wanted to pimp them out you'd have to throw down your own cash. Failing this I would hope you could at least back out of the current solo career, go into the solo career of the drummer, and spend the money you earned in his solo career earlier and pimp him out with new duds which would be reflected in your guitarist's solo career band.

Same here dude! I loved the customization in that game.
