I'm still guessing it's some kind of fretboard of 3-4 buttons that straps to the hand. I think any periferal bigger than the DS itself would be a bad idea.

I expected as much, now I'm wondering if the peripheral will plug into the DS or if the DS will click into the guitar, similar to how the Wii Remote does on the GH III controller.

No disrespect to handhelds, but I just don't see how they can produce a decent Guitar Hero experience on that platform.

Now houw could you possibly see the notes and play the guitar? Thats gonna be impossible.

A palm sized guitar?
I am really anxious to see how this pans out.

This is exactly what I was thinking... five buttons on something strapped to the hand would be nigh impossible to play, unless it was five very small buttons. no fun. four would work, however, limit the songs. no fun.
I wouldn't be surprised if it were something like this: travel guitar (http://www.zzounds.com/item--TRAPROS), just smaller, and obviously without strings. Basically, a stick with a strum bar, control buttons MAYBE, possibly the whammy bar, and five small-scale frets. Only has to be between 16"-20" long at the most. I know that sucks for portability, but let's say this: If I'm going on a trip somewhere, and I can take a backpack with stuff in it, I'd GLADLY pack along a small controller for my DS.

I think GHDS is a horrible idea alltogether. I can't exactly imagine this working, you need a decent peripheral, and maybe they'll do something like they have for GHIII on Wii, where you set the controller in the guitar, but that looks odd. Also, there's a problem with that, there are two different styles of the Nintendo DS, the original, and DSlite. Another problem would be you can't exactly "plug-in" to the DS, the only entrance would be GBA slot or the headphone jack and whatever it next to that. Not exaclty the greatest solution, I'd say just throw out the idea here and not even let it go into production.
So, overall, GHDS = bad idea.

I like the idea of GH on the go, but it better be damn well implemented.

My thoughts exactly. I know that if HMX was behind it, it would either be done right or not done at all, but, well, they have a track record that I can't quite verify, seeing as I've played, well, almost none of their games. See for yourself (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vicarious_Visions).
However, their apparent expertise is in handhelds, ports, and working with already established IP. They're also the ones developing the Wii version of GH3, so we'll see where it goes.
The sad thing is, I'm probably going to buy it regardless of what happens, because I'm that much of a GH/RB nerd. And then if it doesn't suck, my brother in law will probably buy it. And a DS to go with it.

Haha, me too. If I have any money left over after buying Halo 3, GH3, Rockband, and SSBB.
