Nah, what would've been more believable of an April Fool's joke involving Rock Band and the PSP would have been if they patched in a feature to allow you to hook the PSP up to the PS3 and use it as a drum synth :)

Except that those Related Stories are all genuine. Click on them. I doubt that whoever's behind this parody got Wired (http://www.wired.com/politics/security/commentary/securitymatters/2005/11/69601) and USA Today (http://www.usatoday.com/life/columnist/candy/2001-06-06-candy.htm) to play along. That's what makes this article so brilliant. That it would be so inconceivable to most of us that a company could be guilty of everything listed here and yet go about their daily business with most of the population unawares. But that's exactly what the current situation is with Sony. Hell, that article about the PointDev controversy (under "Related Stories") is just a few days old.

This isn't gratuitous "yuk-yuk" parody. This is social commentary. This is what parody should always be about at the core. The disclaimer at the end even reads : "THIS IS A PARODY ARTICLE. While Sony's crimes are real, the video game is not." This deserves nothing but applause.

I doubt MTV/HMX had anything to do with this article. The parody is just made to look like it's on MTV the same way SNL sketch comedians always try to actually look like the subjects they're satirizing. Technically, an idiot flipping channels who stops in the middle of a Backstreet Boys sketch might think those are the real Backstreet Boys looking like doofuses (doofii?). But a disclaimer at the end of the show clears that up, as does the one at the end of this parody.

PS: Did you guys catch that last item in the "Related Products" caption? Hah!

Perhaps - but I was skeptical - it's just as easy to make a fake USA Today page that links to the rest of the real site. I'd have to look for independent corroboration of those linked stories, and it really wasn't necessary - that the original story is a clever parody is obvious.

That's why I mentioned the Onion - their best work is very subtle satire.
