Okay, so basically everyone knows that the Rockband guitars are terrible so I was wondering which one to get. I have a ps3 and want one that works for GH3 as well as Rockband. I've found the Nyko Frontman and TAC guitars.

http://www.nyko.com/nyko/products/?i=130
http://store.theantcommandos.com/Guitar_Hero_Controller_s/1.htm

I've read a review for the Frontman and it seems pretty good. The strumbar clicks and the buttons are spaced well. I hope they're easy to press like the explorers. I haven't found any reviews for the TAC ones but they look good and they're cheaper. Does anyone know which one would be better?

I would get the TAC one!

I'm planning on getting the TAC one, but I'm going to have to wait on reviews. The cool things about the TAC guitar is that it plays Guitar Hero games from the PS2 on the PS3 and it also looks like a bass guitar...just pure awesome-ness.

EDIT: It apparently got a 9/10 from PSM magazine. Not bad in my opinion.

There's a guy who keeps coming on here (Guitarist35/Guitarworld) and badmouthing the Nyko while posting links to the TAC website. I'm pretty sure he works for TAC and with tactics like that I wouldn't give them my business.

I have no opinion on the quality of the guitars themselves.

Wait what? That's what they have posted on the page.

Um, July?

2007?

Even if the 2007 were a typo, virtually no magazines publish 3 months in advance. Maybe TAC is begging PSM to give it a 9/10?

I'm confused....

I have guitar from both and don't have any preference either way. I will be getting the TAC due to the PS2 GH series on PS3 compatibility

This is not the forum for this but I already bought the frontman telecaster for my wii. As mentioned, I have guitar from both companies an they have worked since day one

how is this guitar not out yet.. but PSM reviewed it over 8 months ago.. doesn't make much sense to me at all..

my buddy just ordered it though, and i might be right behind him.. esp. if the NYKO one doesn't come out soon b.bonds

I want the Nyko because it's out first, and I have a pretty decent idea what I'm getting. The TAC is out later, and while it looks good on paper, we know nothing of the quality. The Nyko serves my purposes well. Now, if I could only find one...

I'm leaning toward the TAC Widow Maker, but I have some lingering suspicions about it. I'll definitely wait for some reviews.

The Nyko looks OK, though. I have a PS2 Frontman that has served me well for over a year.

If I can play the PS2 GH games on my PS3 with the TAC guitar, that would seal the deal for me I think.

Wow, I completely glazed over that. Good catch. I don't know what they are trying to pull by posting that.

People do know that there already is a PS2 version of the Frontman, and no doubt that's the guitar they were talking about last summer?

Actually, if im not mistaken, the review is for the TAC, not the frontman.

So, there still isn't an explaination for the TAC review..

Correct. The review is for the TAC.

The TAC web site I find isn't very professional. Obviously, this review must be for another previous guitar (maybe they copied an old template and didn't remove it). In addition, they have two release dates on the same page. One says March, and another says April.

Ah, OK. I misunderstood.
I'd still guess it's one of the older TAC models for GH2, if it was reviewed before RB even came out.

I would get the TAC one for the sheer aspect that it's compatible with GH, GHII, GHIII, and RB.

If this is any good I might get GH for the PS2 and play it on my PS3 finally :D

I don't think the description makes it clear whether the TAC works with GH 1&2 on a PS3 or not. I think there's a distinct possibility that it only works with GH3 (and Rock Band) on a PS3.

Exactly. The site is quite unclear on that point. I'm also worried about the functionality of the solo fret buttons.

I hope for the best, but I'm fully prepared for disappointment.

This is very true; therefore we might want to find out if there are two separate models: one for the PS2 and one for the PS3.

I have a feeling you wont be finding one for a while. Nyko is really shooting themselves in the foot. A lot of people that would of bought Nyko are going to be buying the strat (including myself) because they are taking way too long and just telling us that "they have been shipped".

I know I won't be buying a Strat though. If I can't find a Nyko before the TAC comes out, then I'll look into that one.

Nyko is telling me that I should find one within a week, so I'm going to trust them and give them the benefit of the doubt.

There is no trick, you can either sing while holding the guitar or get a different guitar. Search the forums if you need more info.

I spoke with a representative from TAC today on their "Live Help" feature on their website. He said they are releasing the Widow Maker next week and they will also ship to stores next week as well. Hopefully this is true.

I don't think you can. Rockband reads the Les Paul as a regular controller. They released a patch to make it compatible, however, Activision blocked it because they said that Harmonix had to pay them or something.

I have a TAC Freedom V Wireless that I bought for my PS2. It works fantastic. I would highly recommend it. It doesn't have the second set of buttons, but to me that isn't a big deal.

In fact, since I now have my 360, if anyone wants to buy a gently used one, hit me up :)

I want a second damn guitar. I like the strat, but I'm worried about quality issuses. Also it would be nice to finally play coop on guitar hero 3. (a friend gave it as a gift so I don't feel right selling it).

Wha the hell is taking Nyko so long?

I contacted their customer support and they said that it is one model coming out and it will work on both systems, i guess theres gonna be a switch on the receiver they said.

I figured that would be the case, it still doesn't answer whether it will work with the PS2 Guitar Hero games on a PS3 though.

Most of those things are meaningless marketing buzzwords. The only real advantage the TAC has over the Nyko is the solo frets (which may be enough for some people).

well i guess we will find out... but me, i perfer to have a ps botton and battery saver feat, and to the guy who said solo bottons are pointless then you simple havent played enough gh3!!!! i can rock out closer note parts alot easier with solo bottons then regular bottons... i cant see why having more feat. is bad when its cheaper too.. only time will tell...

Um... My understanding is that the compatibility only works one way. You can use the LP and X-plorer in Rock Band but not the Strat in Guitar Hero. I smell bull poopies.

I was in contact with a rep awhile ago and acording to them you will be able to play the PS2 Guitar hero's on a PS3 with their guitars,They could be blowing smoke up our ass's but I dont know.Also...The ps2 to USB adapter will ship the 3rd week of april.

I wish some company would come out with an ultra high quality guitar controller that could work on both games. Features:

1) Quiet yet responsive fret buttons. I personally like the flat style of the RB controller (easy to slide up or down while playing).
2) Short-throw strum bar with a light click (ala Byte arts)
3) Wireless
4) full RB & GH compatibility
5) Rock solid tilt sensors (maybe a stomp-box accessory)
6) recessed buttons to prevent accidental hits during play
7) Extremely robust mechanisms (fret switches, strum bar, whammy bar, etc.)

If this were offered at a $75 price point I'd buy it. For now I think I'm going to have to get a 2nd RB Strat and mod it (Byte arts strummer, mercury tilt switches, etc.) and forget about playing GHIII.

I'm waiting for the first guinea pigs to get that adapter to see if it works with GH2 on a PS3. If it does, screw getting a new guitar. I already own six plastic guitars... I definitely don't need a seventh! I may still get the adapter just for the ability to get rid of that crappy LP from GH3.

don't forget that bluetooth wireless would be the most ideal out of all of them. If it was bluetooth and including everything else I'd probably be willing to pay 75-100$ max for it. I'm probably going to go with the widowmaker because it is compatible with everything

I'll be getting it as soon as it's out,I cant test the GH PS3 compat though since I have a 40giger.
