((Good list, but... What's this? No Number Girl?!! For Shame!))

Number Girl

Toumei Shoujo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtPiXSc0A9U

(They're rather unknown, but this single, as well as their other songs, would work perfectly if there's going to be Encores)

Are you sure you are not yanking my chain? That isn't a band. Its a bunch of guys running around in an elevator.

It's... a music video man. And it's a Japanese band. Their music videos don't HAVE to make sense...

(*Edit: Yeah, that was the band I meant. Thanks for finding that!*)

I've played Dir En Grey on a ps2 mod disc i made of GH2. It wasn't that great, but I like most the stuff the band does so it was still cool. Dunno if they'd really suit Rock Band though.

As much as I would love for a game to include the greatness of Japanese Rock, Rock Band is going to feature vocals. As such, there's like NO ROOM for there to be any Japanese Rock tracks since most people who end up buying this game would have no interest in listening to foreign music, much less "playing" it.

Too bad, since Sugizo's guitar playing would translate into some wickedly difficult solos...

Here's the thing, though, music is a very divisive subject. Some people like the stuff that's playing now and think that bands like Fall Out Boy rock harder than any other band in existence. Some people don't like metal or glam rock, some people people want a drum solo...

In the end it's all going to be abotu how much fun the people are having playing the song, no matter what language it is in. I'd really like to see Harmonix take a step towards making this game a little more international. Include these songs as unlockables (because boy, did some of the unlockable music in GH2 SUCK.) and let people play them if they feel like it.

I completely agree with Dir En Grey and Malice Mizer, as well as a few other ones.
How about Moi Dix Mois?

But let's not forget that noone gets into Karaoke harder than the Japanese (well maybe some other Asian countries, but that's besides the point). While english songs do also get a bit of rotation, it's really the local language ones which get the most play into the early hours of the morning during those marathon Karaoke nights.

Also, I dunno about other people, but if I'm on drums or guitar I'll rock a track sung in Fish-speak for all I really care.

But yeah.. I never expected it to be in the core game.. was thinking DLC.. but OhJustSomeRandomGuy makes an excellent point. Why not for the bonus tracks, because hey yeah, quite a few of those managed to suck awesomely even in all their English splendor

Tokyo Jihen are fantastic. The gameplay would be so much fun with both the guitar playing and drumming on this one in particular:

While the language barrier made me think that J-rock would never make it on Rock Band, now that I think about it, I don't think it's really that big of a problem. I mean, I'm sure there are some people who play Rock Band now that may not speak English regularly. Also, can't you play the game without a singer anyway? If so, I don't see how the language barrier would be a problem.

I for one would love to see some foreign language songs make it on Rock Band.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=BtiPJdg_ar8

You beat me to it. Tokyo Jihen is my favorite band of all time. Sounan, Shuraba, and Himitsu are three real winners from them, although most of their songs would work excellently in Rock Band.
Shuraba: http://youtube.com/watch?v=66CUaOSjHPo
Himitsu http://youtube.com/watch?v=N7O-IDGXRgE

They have a keyboardist though. We don't. Not a big deal though.

Also, for something bass-centric, indie band 8otto is great.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=07eoK0ekj9Y
http://youtube.com/watch?v=1FTErp0flQs
And their song Counter Creation is good, but no Youtube vid.

Other good bands to include would be ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION, I'd probably use their three most popular songs:

After Dark (made popular by BLEACH): http://youtube.com/watch?v=HxYfzk8jjjE
Haruta Kanata (made popular by Naruto): http://youtube.com/watch?v=DzS0xkzJt2o
REWRITE (made popular by Fullmetal Alchemist): http://youtube.com/watch?v=2RMscHU5gfI

But these two are pretty good too:

Blue Train (my favorite): http://youtube.com/watch?v=v_nEZPxO5cI
World Apart: http://youtube.com/watch?v=l5eEGcGAE_E

Also ELLEGARDEN is pretty popular here in the States as they've come for various concerts and have a kind of American feel. Can't find many Youtube videos of the songs I like from them but they're Marry Me, Super Sonic, and RADIOMAN.

I would like to add Veltpunch for J-band nominations. They aren't famous but they are a well known J-Indie band. Give it a listen. It would be fun to play on any instrument.

Polysics would also be awesome.

I'd so love to plays me somez Laruku dude but I think I'm so happy would be a bit too arbitrary (it's like suggesting an Extended version of Taste of Love or As if in a dream, although I'd ****ing die from the sheer awesomeness that both radiate.) I'd say that picks would be best served representing the bands
so I'd probably go with some picks from the Heart-Ray era or even some of their newer stuff (DRINK IT DOWN has a wonderfully insane bassline from tetsu very reminiscent of his Dune playing). I'd probably pick: HEAVEN'S DRIVE, niji, and DRINK IT DOWN.

Just the other day I was thinking how much fun it would be to have GO!GO!7188 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TANhCrpD2WU) in Rock Band, but I really think the language barrier thing would be too much. I've played with a lot of different groups of people, and most of them don't want to sing songs they don't know...much less songs in a different language. Shame too, because that guy's a beast on drums, the riff work is solid, and the bass is strong enough to stand out on top of them both.

But unless Harmonix feels like throwing us a giant curveball, anyone who wants to play these songs is probably better off just importing Guitar Freaks/Drummania. You'll lose that x-factor of feeling like part of a band, but if it's J-Rock and popular, it's already been covered there.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the pop to thrash death metal stylings of Maximum the Hormone. It would never be in RB seeing as it's in Japanese, but yeah:

Here's a short music video I made featuring one of their tracks, Cobra:
