Not sure if this is a good thing, guess just as long as they don't get Kirsten Dunst to play Lisa Hayes...from Rottentomatoes (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/robotech_the_shadow_chronicles_the_movie/news/1669676/):

Michael Bay, what hast thou wrought?

Watching the director's Transformers steamroll its way to a $300 million-plus gross this summer, you had to know there would be a wave of giant robot movies following in its wake, and the studios are doing their best to live up (or down) to expectations. Last month, we discussed the impending Voltron movie; now, from The Hollywood Reporter, comes word that Robotech could be following suit.

Producing and (possibly) starring is Toby Maguire, who tells the Reporter:

"We are very excited to bring 'Robotech' to the big screen...there is a rich mythology that will be a great foundation for a sophisticated, smart and entertaining film."

You heard him, folks: Giant robots. Smart, sophisticated giant robots.

Robotech is probably best known for being a popular syndicated anime series in the '80s, although it has also spun off a number of sequels and spinoffs in a wide variety of formats, including comics, cards, novels, an RPG line, and videogames. The core storyline, as summarized by the Reporter, is as follows:

A sprawling sci-fi epic, "Robotech" takes place at a time when Earth has developed giant robots from the technology on an alien spacecraft that crashed on a South Pacific isle. Mankind is forced to use the technology to fend off three successive waves of alien invasions. The first invasion concerns a battle with a race of giant warriors who seek to retrieve their flagship's energy source known as "protoculture," and the planet's survival ends up in the hands of two young pilots.

No target release is listed for the project.

To Harvest or not to Harvest, that is the question;
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The pipes and bullets of outrageous Splicers,
Or to take arms against a horde of Big Daddies,
And by opposing, end them. To die, to sleep...

So no reference to Macross? (Macross Plus is awesome) I'm sure this movie will be totally different than that but I'll still probably watch it. Transformers wasn't too bad. It's hard for me to get excited about, though. I think I'm becoming more and more cynnical toward movies as time goes on...
