Well, with my drum pedal recently snapping in two (even after being reinforced once I noticed it started cracking), I went out and bought a Pearl P120-P Drum Pedal. Since I won't be able to afford to have the $125 hold to RMA the stock pedal, I used the sensor and magnet from the old pedal to make the new pedal work. So after cutting some grooves n stuff in some 1/2" plexi-glass to stick the sensor in, and a hole in another piece of the same material for the magnet, some testing for positioning, and a stopper made out of MDF to stop the pedal right before the sensor and magnet touch, and gluing both pieces of plexiglass and the MDF to the pedal, it should work like a dream. The glue I used is some really good stuff (used on cars....instead of welding new quarter panels in you can glue them in with this stuff, so I shouldn't have to worry about the parts on this falling off), and to eliminate the noise when the pedal hits the stopper, I put some weather stripping on the stopper.

I'll post up some pictures tomorrow once I get it put back together after the glue is done drying. The good thing with this is it should be virtually bullet-proof.

Well, I tested it a bit before posting the pictures, and it works AWESOME!

It is much easier to hit the fast pedal notes with this, and it is much stronger.

btw, under the green tape is some 1/4" white weather stripping that you can buy from the home depot for about $10. I'm gonna be painting the stuff I added on the base of the pedal black so it isn't near as visible.

Here's some pics:

Looks good! You decided not to use the beater, eh?

I think I bought some of that weather stripping. I wrapped it around the tips of my sticks. I DO NOT recommend this at all tho.
Weather stripping + drum sticks = heavy
But boy, oh boy, were they quiet... and bouncy!

Let us know how the weather stripping holds up over time. And are you playing Expert?

Yea the first song I played with this pedal was ...And Justice for All on expert and got 193,000 points and 4 stars. Yea, I decided to not use the beater. The foam on the MDF not only lessens the sound (I can't even hear the pedal when I have the speakers turned up, but I could hear the stock pedal with the speakers at the same volume), but it also makes it a softer hit and feels better on the foot because there is less impact. I noticed I'll have to tape it to the floor though because it is moving a fair amount like the drum set (if you look at the pictures, you'll notice I already have the drum set taped down)

btw, I did the "marshmallow mod" too and I love it. After a while you forget the weather stripping is on there, and the quieter sound is great. I got the medium thickness stuff wrapped around 2x though and I would recommend using the thinnest (1/4"?) foam, as the foam does lose its firmness after a while.

oh and I tried the heel-toe method but my foot is too big and I keep hitting my toe on the mount for the beater :P
