I like the Police too, but I find it kind of odd that they have released so many Police tracks. They had a whole pack dedicated to them, then got a single in the Arguably Punk pack and Message in a Bottle was in that one leaked list. Usually Harmonix preaches music diversity so what happened here.(again im not complaining just asking)

I like them too... they are also coming out with a lot of metallica, too (another band I like).
But I'm fine with it... all of their songs have been fun to play IMO.

its probably not as much as HMX loves the police more than anything as much as its the police like to give out masters cheap(maybe)

You kind of answered your own question. Plus, when HMX got the rights for "Next to You" for the main setlist they probably found out that the Police (or whomever holds the masters) were more than willing to support the platform.

We have 4/10 songs from Outlandos D'Amour, so hopefully we'll have the whole album some time in the future. I'd love Peanuts and Born in the 50's.

Well, Harmonix loves Boston even more and loves The Grateful Dead just as much.
The Who and Nirvana are also going to outnumber The Police eventually.

Well Synchronicity II's notechart was much more fun in Rock Band, at least.

We can't escape from the beat repeating in Police Songs. We will always find those 3 consecutive bass notes. Almost every song. :P

Actually, if the OP knew about what goes into obtaining DLC rights and developing DLC it should be pretty obvious that the Police were one of the first bands that Harmonix was able to obtain rights on for multiple songs. You can't work on the songs if you don't have the rights or masters, so they worked with what they could get, which at first was the Police, Rush, Metallica and Grateful Dead. As they obtain more song rights from bands that initially declined, the diversity increases. Nothing odd about it.

IIRC, Stewart Copeland was also involved in making video game soundtracks for a while, including the first Spyro the Dragon game. So it's very likely he "got" what HMX was doing with both the GH games and Rock Band very early on.

^ you lose. Sting = The PoliceYou double lose. I'm a fan of both the Police and Sting (solo) and anyone who listens to the two can tell you they are very different.
Sting may own all of the Police rights but Copeland and Summers were "instrumental" members (ha ha) in the band and fine musicians in their own rights.

Uhhhh. Please retract your statement about my loss. I'm also a fan of the Police and Sting. I saw the Police in concert over the Summer and I know they are different. My point was that Sting is an major component of The Police and I find it hard for anyone to say they like the Police and not Sting. He plays bass and sings - that only leaves Andy on guitar and Stewart on drums...
Note that I'm not making a judgment on character here. Whether or not you like Sting's personality is a separate argument. I'm sure there are many "rock stars" that are asshats.
And I think it can't be argued that he is the well known front man for the band. Just like the average person knows Neil Pert from Rush but may not know the other band member names.
/I rest my case your honor.

My point was that Sting is an major component of The PoliceOnly an idiot would say Sting wasn't a major component of the Police.
and I find it hard for anyone to say they like the Police and not Sting.Whether you find it hard or not, the fact is that many people (I am not one of them) like the Police and not Sting, and probably the reverse (although I don't see that as often). Sting's music is very different from almost all of the Police catalogue. If you are really a fan I find it hard to fathom you would argue different.
He plays bass and sings - that only leaves Andy on guitar and Stewart on drums...I find this really funny given what you write next...
And I think it can't be argued that he is the well known front man for the band. Just like the average person knows Neil Pert from Rush but may not know the other band member names.Oh, like maybe that Geddy Lee guy -- you know, the one that plays bass and sings? You know -- like Sting? I mean c'mon, Neil Pert only plays the drums... he can't be important, can he?
Look, as a supposed "fan" of the Police, feel free to write off Copeland and Summer's contributions if you want to. But that just makes you an ignorant fan.
In any case, that pretty much sums up my opinion, I'm going to stop derailing this thread right now.
More on topic -- I am very glad there is a lot of Police in Rock Band and I am looking forward to MiB whenever it comes out (maybe next week, but I think we will get the Metal pack instead. But that's a topic for another thread). That said, as another poster has already pointed out, the Police have fewer songs right now than Boston or the Grateful Dead and will soon (hopefully) have fewer songs than Nirvana or The Who or (maybe) Metallica. I think the Police are definitely worthy of being included in that group.

What about 30 Seconds to Mars, Garbage, Paramore, Shockwave (cant remember the band name), Metallica, Coheed and Cambria, Oasis (ok maybe they aren't in circulation too much anymore), The Haunted, At The Gates, Evile, Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Stone Temple Pilots, Weezer and Blink 182?
I mean, really, there's a pretty substantial list of bands that are still putting out albums and getting airtime that are available for DLC.

There can never be too much police.
Well, I guess, until you can't put out anymore of their songs because you've put them out already....
I still say their song Landlord is their best song ever for this kind of game, but nobody's heard it so.... Failing that, they need Man in a Suitcase!
Every Breath You Take? Please no. That song would be rather boring. And is the number 1 creepiest stalker song of all time.

It does seem like they prefer the police over other groups, but maybe only because it gets released over time rather than all at once. They still don't have as many songs as Grateful Dead or Boston in the game, but I don't think anyone says that HMX FAVORS those two bands, probably because they came out all at once instead of reminding us of the band over and over again. If they released 1 boston song every week for six weeks instead of just releasing the boston pack all at once, it would feel different.

this discussion is quite hate filled but I do need to call that one guy an idiot who says that they dont release new music and they cater only to their musical tastes.
On a more related note, people who mention that other bands have more are right, it just seems that the Police have more because they were released over a period of time.

If a band has great songs that are fun to play on Rockband I don't care if they get 10 or 20 songs. I would rather have core bands with great songs then a bunch of mediocre bands with songs that I don't want to play. What's the point of having a big diversity in bands if the songs aren't good or fun to play (I'm looking at you Pete Wentz!). :)

Haha, did you notice how... like... every Police song repeats one line over and over again at the end. I love them, but... come on.
"Truth hits everybody! Truth hits everybody!"-Truth Hits Everybody
"You don't have to put on the red light! You don't have to put on the red light!"- Roxanne
"I'm sending out an SOS, I'm sending out an SOS!"- Message in a Bottle
"All I want is to be next to you! All I want is to be next to you!"- Next to You

Yeah dude, definitely your opinion there. I do not fit in this catagory. I have disliked the Police since the day I heard them, about 28 years ago or so. Just something about there sound I don't really like that much. I'm still trying to give them a try though. I realize their talent and all, but maybe it's Stings voice that sort of bugs me. I'm not too sure. I know I'm a total minority in this opinion of mine and by no means am I bashing them. It's just strange that I love so many different artists, but could never get into these guys. Maybe that will change a bit?
In all honesty I could live with no more Police in the game. But either way at least I do have the option to not purchase their stuff. I might give message in a bottle a chance but not sure. It seems they repeat the same vocals over and over and over. Well enough of my little rant. Carry on people.;)

I think someone's confused. I think it's more accurate to say that The Police Love Harmonix rather than the other way around. Why else would they let their songs be spread out over 3 packs and the disc instead of just one 6 pack?

There aren't many "recent" bands in that list. The Haunted is actually a band made up of people from At the Gates, believe it or not. I think only one member changed. Most of what you have listed is mid to late 90s. The only exceptions would be Black Tide( or shockwave as you put it), Paramore, and 30 seconds to Mars. Maybe Coheed and Cambria, too.
Blink 182 definitely isn't recent. They burned out before the turn of the millenium.
That being said, give me more 80s music that isn't the Police and you can have your modern hits. A Prince 3-pack would be a good place to start.

It might not. More than a Feeling's chart feels different. I haven't compared it note for note to be sure, and it is pretty similar, but I'm pretty sure it's not exact. I think it helps that More than a Feeling in GH was a cover that sounded slightly different from the master track (I'm referring to the instrumentals here, not the vocals).
We won't know for sure until Tuesday when it's out on 360 and people start playing it.

I dunno, there's more Grateful Dead and Boston songs in the game, yet most people aren't complaining about HMX bias for those bands. Just be glad you're getting something else the same week as The Police, people who don't like GD or Boston had nothin' else to work with those weeks.

This just shows that HMX has very good taste. :D
I'd be all for more Police, in fact. Every Breath You Take as mentioned here many times would be a great song for RB (for guitar and vocals, at least, never paid a lot of attention to the drums, which I should), heck, I think the entire Synchronicity album would all be fine additions, along with Bombs Away, Be My Girl - Sally, De Do Do Do De Da Da Da, and a slew of others.
The only band I can think of that would fit RB more perfectly would be the Beatles, and since that's a no-brainer its obvious HMX can't get their rights.

I think the reason people are complaining about the Police songs is because they've come over a period of time, one in the game, three in the police pack, one in the arguably punk pack and now one in the classic rock pack. Where as Grateful Dead and Boston literally came in one go so people got all there dislike out in one week where as the slight dislike for the Police which is ridiculous becuase there amazing has been stewing for many a week.

Not that I have something against Queens of the Stone Age... they have four QotSA songs (1 main, 3 dlc), and they had 'No One Knows' in GH1, which seems like a lot to me.
I know Metallica and Nine Inch Nails both have a main song and a 3-song pack, but they seem like more popular bands.
