Like everyone else's foot pedal, mine is now broken, for the same reason but in a different way.

when I got rock band, I knew the foot pedal sucked so I immediately duct taped some steel knives onto the bottom, hopefully making it last longer. Eventually, a crack appeared where my heel was, so I tried to hook up my real pedal to rock band (by unscrewing the top, taking out the piece inside, taping it to the bottom of the foot pedal, and taping a magnet to the bottom of the pedal) I had to try a million different ways to get the magnet to set the game off, and eventually one of the wires broke. Long story short, I'm not an electrician, I can't sodder a 1/2 mm wire. Is there a way to buy a replacement foot pedal, of pay ea to fix this (since they obviously won't do it for free)?

as much as I love playing 29 fingers...

P.S. It's pretty obvious that I took it apart, I tried 6 screwdrivers before one worked...

ebay has dozens of replacement pedals for sale.

you can also wait a couple of weeks (if you have the patience) and purchase a midi high hat controller pedal for about $40.00 and never have the problem again.

Seigler music on ebay sells these pedals.

You can also spend more money and goto a local music instrument store and purchase one.

I don't know if I'll even be able to press down a hi-hat pedal without hearing that familiar noise :P

can you list a link to a website I can order one?

I searched and I came across instructions to do what I was trying to do for about $5 worth of parts I don't have, as long as one of my neighbours can lend me a soldering iron

Also, I tried resoldering the wires, and this is what happens now:

It doesn't respond when I press the pedal down, but instead when I plug it in and pull it out

does anyone with electrical background know what went wrong :D?

I'm no electrician, but it sounds like you have a closed (or open) circuit happening.

Like when you plug it in, its like the foot pedal is pressed down and kept that way according to the wiring. When you unplug, its like taking your foot off of the pedal.

Are you sure there's no metal sitting really close to that magnet? Also, why are you soldering wires together? Why not just splice them together and tape them off or use a wire nut (like speaker wires)?

When you say the wire 'broke', you mean it came off of a circuit board or it actually snapped in half?

I've done some research and all I need to fix my pedal is a reed relay, but I can't find one in any stores close to me :(

oh, and I mean it broke off the circuit board. I don't think it works anymore because the glass tube on the bottom of the board broke, but I didn't think it mattered since what sets it off is a magnet pulling a piece of wire to touch another piece. Apparantly there was a gas inside the tube that made it work

If it registers when you pull it in an out you've got a short. You probably used too much solder.

If you already have a broken foot pedal, the best thing to do ( I found anyway) is first order a replacement(650-628-1001 option 1) and then visit everything4guitarhero.com
they have 2 snap on plates, one for $14 and change and the other for $24 and change, these snap right on over the top of the pedal, and provides great re enforcement and it won't crack/snap on you. and yes on ebay they have some too, but for the little bit extra $$ its worth it, don't think they will design a better pedal.
