What if there was a level above expert where you would be required to switch between upper and lower frets during a song. This would add a new level of difficulty to people who have a essentially mastered the game. I'm not sure how they would differentiate between the notes or how often you would have to switch but I think it would be cool. Obviously this only could be done of the Strat. Thoughts?

I think it is a good idea.
When I first got the game I thought those frets were for the expert mode but found out later that they were just additional frets.
The only problem I can see with your suggestion is that the lower frets are actually he same frets as the top frets.

I think that's a fun idea, but here's another one: why are there no "open" notes in GH/RB? Did they think the idea of strumming while holding no buttons was too difficult? I think that'd be another way of making Expert harder...

I think it'd be neat if people were 'forced' to move to them for solos.
Maybe it's just something that someone could do for fun/increased difficulty.
Like getting the Authentic Strummer for Bass.

Once the blue background shows up for the solo, only the solo buttons would register for the notes and return to normal once the section is over. Don't know if the controller really differentiates between the two sets of frets enough to pull this off.

My fingers are a just a little too big to use the solo frets accurately all the time.
I'm used to the spacing on the bigger frets and I use the solo frets when I need them. The way I feel it should be.

If you want Super Expert mode, go play TTFAF with precision mode on -.-

But it couldn't be done with the same guitar because it would mean that there would have to be 10 individual buttons and the guitars would have to be completely rewired with a completely different controller board.
It's a nice idea but not realistic.
Sorry.

i like the idea of forced lower fret usage and open notes.
i dont know if either are possible but it would certainly be cool.

open note is easy you allready have the bass bar just use that as a open frett strumm

The guitar can already detect when you're not pushing any buttons and whether you're using the upper or lower frets (it knows when to penalize you for not strumming during solos), so both ideas are technically feasible.
