When i bought Rock Band for ps2 back in January, the lady at the checkout counter said that I could buy a product replacement plan from them. Because I had heard that some people had drum pedals breaking, I decided to buy the plan. Question is, if I have any problems with my game, do I contact BestBuy or Harmonix?

The specific problem I have is that choosing certain songs causes the game to freeze while loading. It happens on about 8 songs, and it happens every time I pick these songs.

Any tips are greatly appreciated!

Best Buy offered you a replacement plan and if they honor it, no they didn't rip you off. However HMX/EA's warranty service is very generous and it is likely you would not ever have to use your Best Buy replacement service.

My memory servers that many PS2s have had this specific problem relating to PS2 optical drive lasers and lenses that were in poor condition. It is likely that your Playstation 2 is faulty and not the game. However I would do the following (in this order):

1. Call EA support (number in my signature and in your paper manual) and explain the problem. Perhaps they have a solution prepared.

2. Use the Best Buy replacement plan to get a new game disk or completely new bundle to see if that solves the problem.

3. Buy a new console? Have it repaired?

Well since you paid for the Best Buy plan, you should take it back there every time you have an issue. That way you will get your replacement that day and only waste a little gas for the trip. The sucky part is you will have to box up your whole setup and take it back as they wont swap out parts.

In the future I would advise against most extended warranties (I would say all, but I am sure there has to be one instance in the world where it might be a good idea).

You were not ripped off or suckered. When you have something wrong with the game, you can have them swap it out for a completely new one.

There is a slight issue with boxing it up, though. I bought it at my local BestBuy in New Jersey, but I brought it with me to university in Scotland. Do you think that if I mailed the disc to my brother, he could get it replaced on my behalf? That way I wouldn't have to wait until the summer to bring the whole system back

The replacement plan on BB is probably one of the best plans around for Rock Band.

I got mine replaced immediately when I realized my guitar wasn't registering OD. Then again 2 weeks later when my base pedal snapped.

Now the pedal is snapped again, but I have a replacement one off ebay. So I'll just sit and wait until better equipement comes out, or even RB2. If it's within the next 2 years (from my purchase date), I get to walk right in and get it replaced, again. No charges held on my card, no waiting for replacements. Shoot, I could walk in there every 2 weeks with a broken pedal and get a whole new RB box if I wanted to.

Not sure why more people don't go this route when purchasing RB.

Man I really hope this is an extended pedal, like the Omega or something. It better not be a stock pedal you 'bought' from ebay, considering they'll replace it for free...

I got the 2 year warranty from Best Buy as well. The guy said that HMX was honoring a replacement program for the guitar, so I could use it, but if I wanted to, I could just bring the whole box set back in and get a new one under the terms of the BB warranty...

I did the HMX exchange once though... figured it was easy enough and no need to box everything up when I only needed to exchange the guitar...

I was told, however, the last time I talked to Best Buy that I might want to consider waiting until the Special Edition box set starts coming with the wireless Strat... then I'd have a new drum set and the new guitar... not a bad plan, if you ask me... and it's good for 2 years from the purchase date (for me it was early December)...

No, I got one of the wooden pedals. Works pretty slick. Actually replaces the hinged pedal so that I didn't have to do any drilling, hence voiding my warranty.

Should answer your question.

Just a quick update, I went back to Best Buy a few weeks ago because my yellow pad broke. I only took the top part of the drums in (no supports or pedal), and the nice lady gave me an entire new drum set in exchange! So now I have two bass pedals!

So, to answer my own question, the Best Buy replacement plan is awesome!

I too got a 2 Year Replacement plan for my Rock Band, and one time they told me, "No You can't bring it back anymore." So I called the Number on the back of my replacement booklet they gave me with my receipt.

The Lady I talked to over the Phone said this,

"If they don't exchange it there take it to another one. You got a 2 year replacement plan, You can replace it as many times as you want up to the first year, but when it turns to the second year you must pay for another plan."

So i kept talking to here when she told me.

"If none of the Best Buy's take your Rock Band back, call us give us your info, we will send you a box, put all the Rock Band items in there and We will send you a Card paying you back for everything which includes paying for the warranty."

Hahaha... something the BestBuy Protection plan is actually good for... But it looks like they are loosing to much money/stock on this. Because Rock Band is so defective..

I buy the BB warranty on "major things," like my 37" LCD TV, my mini dvd cam corder, digital camera's and the like. And yes even my PS3. I've had to use it only a couple of times, and have never had any problems, except for having to wait in line. However I bought my original RB set from MTV Games / HMX themselves. BUT as age and use of the original gear comes through, I find myself needing to replace the drums, and my guitars, so this time I will probably buy the BB warranty.

Now on the other side of this, as stated I bought the warranty on my digital camera and camcorder, and believe it or not, was told flat out by the sales rep there, hat when it is coming close to the end of my contract, break them, and bring them in and get a replacement, because by then they wont make or carry the models I purchased, (they do not any more), and would get the equivelant purchase price in one of the latest models. How nice is that, getting told to break what you buy so that you get a free upgrade.

DoH! Looks like if you want to play RB or RB2 you need the BB replacement warranty! I wish I'd done that! What junk!

please DO NOT BUMP THREADS MORE THAN 1 MONTH OLD

also the fine print I think allows "1 prp exchange then void" but some BB wont void
