BLOG ROCK today and today only - that one is for SA Nick.

Hey all, long time no see! I just got back into the office this morning after being away for over a week- and I may have a few stories around. Like being in one of the suites at the VMAs, seeing Kanye West in person, having Dave Grohl walk right past me, playing the game with Gym Class Heroes and Cobra Starship, singing on the tour bus in the mid-day sun in the desert while sweating like a hog and never feeling more rock, to being interviewed by Sister 2 Sister magazine (easily the funnest interview I had out there.)

Well I'm back... for a short while at least, before I head out for a few stops here and there and see if I can't meet a few of you out on the road. I'm really pretty tired (a week straight of 18 or so hour days with jet lag will do that) so I will probably go home and play a video game and pass out on the couch as soon as I am done with this.

I've always enjoyed his sober objectivity and occasional hilarious blog and I think he will do a bang-up job keeping this place readable especially when I am in some hotel that doesn't have wireless and am missing these forums so. A Husky! I have one. They are the coolest dogs out there. They need a lot of time to run around in the park and so though.

Almost forgot, I recommend a basset hound or beagle for dog choice. They are big enough to play with, small enough that they don't eat/poop too much, and a good temprament.

Plus, they are sort of a manly dog and are relatively low maintenance as dogs go.

Whatever dog you get, TRAIN IT WELL. When I lived with my parents, I trained their puppy to attack food on the kitchen table, rummage in the garbage can, and sleep on the furniture. I then moved out for college and work. TWELVE YEARS LATER it still does all of the tricks I taught it, and is an unmanagable nightmare. (albeit very funny to watch and lovable as anything)

There was a thread a few weeks ago in the general forum regarding World of Warcraft. Someone reacted negatively to some of the criticisms in that thread, and posted snippets of that over on Blizzard's official forums to his WoW buddies.

That got enough WoW players riled up to create accounts here and spam the general forum with a bunch of junk posts. This was over the previous weekend I believe, and someone was able to catch on and ban/lock the offending posts/posters.

I'm sure it was just a vocal minority, I played the game for a number of months and generally ran into a decent crowd.

Dude, get a Golden Retriever. They love everyone unconditionally and are about as friendly as any creature on the face of this planet has ever been. They're great with other pets, kids and you take them jogging or just lounge around the house. Basically, they are happy just being around people. Some dogs are decorations, some dogs are (sadly) used as weapons, but Goldens can't be described as anything other than companions.

Another member took offense to it, defending wow, and made the error of posting this thread on the WoW forums.

Members there then decided to come here and raise hell, posting lewd pics, putting some type of pop-up link in a bunch of thread, and just being general hell-raisers.

The general section was pretty much off-limits that day.

The keyboardist for Gym Class Heroes (I didn't get his name) sat in and started drums on hard and ruled. Alex from Cobra Starship all out killed on guitar. He was challenging people to duels on expert. Keep in mind this was often when they had just come off stage and made a beeline for the game. Only to be pulled away to play onstage again. Marc from GCH was also pretty intense on all the instruments as well and played at both the Fallout Boy suite as well as the Kanye party the night before.

as for dogs, I love huskys, but have a certain sweet spot for German Shepards and Black Labrador retrievers. (probably because I've basically had all 3.. never a full husky though.. my dad owned a half german shepard half husky.. he was bad ass.)

I would suggest a Lab, but they require a LOT of room to run and such. If you can find one, I highly recommend a Bassadore...half Labradore, half Basset hound. I've got one and he's a pretty darn cool dog. Very person-like.

It left a bunch of posts containing iframes pointing offsite that change the browser's size, moves it to all corners of the screen and plays this hidious 80's tune. :)
I've reported some of them via 'report post' so you can see it in action.

Apples suggestions were good, basset hound/beagle. Cockerspaniel is another good choice and in the same kinda category. Also I have a cockerspaniel... she is awesomely hilarious.

I want to tell you what kind of dog to get, but I don't know my breed my dog is, so I can't :p

I can tell you right now that you shouldn't get a purebred dog, they are really dumb and get really weird diseases a lot.

I had a black lab who went insane and would attack me for no reason. then I had a Basset Hound that got a tumor the size of a baseball on his chest, and shortly after got cancer and died (awesome dog :( I miss him ) I have had a Carine Terrier (think Todo from wizard of Oz, except fatter lol ) for at least 11 years, she has a tumor on her stomach, but I don't think it is malignant. Pure bred dogs are too much trouble, I think it is caused from all the inbreeding that some breeders do.

I have a mut that is extremely well behaved, smart, energetic, and obedient, and she has had no medical problems for the 3 years that I have had her.

I'm very happy to hear about another mod being added to the forums. The last week or so has been so frustrating with all the duplicate topics and topics posted in completely wrong sections. It seemed like no one had the power to do anything about them and nasty posts seemed to take the place of what could have been a simple topic lock or topic move.

Anyway, I think the choice of Apples was very wise. I don't think I've ever seen him post anything without merit before. I just hope you're online a lot, Apples!

I can tell you right now that you shouldn't get a purebred dog, they are really dumb and get really weird diseases a lot.

I agree, avoid purebred. Go for a pound mutt. (http://www.petfinder.com/) They generally can give you an idea of the animals tempermant, and you can find one that has some of the breeds people are suggesting in this thread. Some notes from my experience...

Anything mixed with pitbull/doberman/rottweiler is going to be stigmatized(unfairly) as vicious, and may cause hassles for you down the line. Especially true if you plan on travelling with it or if you rent your residence.

Anything mixed with lab is going to have the lab quality of being friendly and *loving* to fetch. My brother actually has a pit/lab mix and it's incredibly smart, but still has the absolute *need* to play nearly all the time. If you've got the free time, a lab mix is a fun dog.

As much as I love German Shepards... even in a mix they often have the horrible genetic hip problem as they get older, and it's awful watching your dog struggle to stand up, or stand longingly at the top of the stairs trying to decide if it's worth the pain.

My personal favorites in mixes have been Australian Cattle Dogs(or Australian Shepards) or Blue Heelers, both smart breeds and loyal... Australian Shepards are often called "velcro dogs" because they'll get up when you leave a room and follow you around the house. Also, they often have different color fur on their eyebrows, which makes their faces look quite expressive.

Pugs seem to mix well too... you get the appearance of the pug with a slightly larger stature and more personality.

btw, Border Collies are the coolest dogs ever. They're VERY smart and love to play. But they do need a lot of attention so if you work a lot.... might not work. Cool dogs nontheless though!

I won't suggest a certain breed of dog, but I will ask that you consider going to the SPCA and adopt a dog who needs a good home. Rescue one. We did. She's only about 8 months old, and pretty insane and freakin hilarious. We don't even know what she is. She's like this mutt/beagle/chuaua ...thing with a huge tail and basically looks like a cartoon dog.

I think she may have been abused ... But after getting to know her, She's the most awesome dog ever. I couldn't imagine where she'd be right now if we didn't adopt her. :(

Anyway thought I'd throw that out there if you haven't thought about it. It's a really sad place though, and a difficult choice to make.

As for a type of dog to get i have always had a soft spot for the bull dog my cousin has one and he looks pretty neat with his spiked collar although he does have a habit of chewing my cousin's shoes. :)

Definitely SPCA it, I fulltime volunteered in one for 2 and a half months in this government program.. Best job I had out of the 3 they placed me in.

SPCA animals are usually pretty awesome / even if they are abused, once they trust you they adore you... my rescued crack house cat is proof of that ;)

About the dog thing... a few questions:

In what sort of place do you live? Do you have a yard or access to a nearby dog park?

Do you want a more laid-back dog, or do you like 24/7 high energy? Or something in-between?

Do you want the dog to come to work with you?

When you go on trips, do you want the dog to come with, or will you be leaving it with someone?

Does someone else live at home with you? Is there someone around all the time for companionship, or will the dog be alone while you're gone?

Are you sold on getting a pure-bred, or are you up for a healthy heinz-57?

Have you ever had dogs before? Any pets at all? What kind? Do you still have any kind of a pet at home that the dog will have to get along with?

Are you more into "looks cool/cute/whatever" or is personality more important?

lol me either. You can never truly know someone that you meet on the internet. I could be a 17 year old with acne that loves to draw penguins while in math class, play guitar hero and Gears of War, and headbang to Exodus and Megadeth. But you will never truly know ;)
