Got an idea for the downloadable albums, sorry if it has been mentioned. For xbox used without xbox live like myself I feel im missing out on the downloadable content. How about game stores e.g. gamestop of ebgames have the downloadable albums on cd which you can buy from the store for however much they cost to download. That way you could just load it onto your xbox from the cd like the reverse compatability upgrade you can download from xbox.com and install from a cd.

It likely can't work like that, there's one big problem:
Downloading the songs makes you pay for the songs and it locks it to the Xbox. If you offer a CD that doesn't require any online authentication, then you can load that one CD onto however many Xboxes you want. I could see it working as a sort of thing that you have to first boot up Rock Band, then insert the disc to validate you have the CD each time, but other than that, it likely won't work. Hopefully they'll release periodical stand-alone expansion packs with random assortments of the best DLC, though.

DLC is available to everyone. You don't need a paid (Gold) Xbox Live account to access the Marketplace.

Yes exactly. I have been on the free silver account for over a year and have never been locked out of a download content purchase.

That would just be crazy of them to turn away money like that...
I would expect expansion discs though, maybe of the DLC that had the most downloads or something...for those who prefer to have CDs that can be ruined by younger siblings...

Also, Microsoft is big about pushing XBox Live as one of the big advantages over other consoles, and they'd never go for it.

I think what the guy is trying to say is that he doesn't have Xbox Live at all, so he can't access the marketplace.... but yeah, Silver works for DLC.

Its very easy to get a Sliver Membership. It takes like 5 minutes.

It also takes an internet connection to your Xbox... which he may or may not have.

this=your best bet.
It *could* be possible to make an expansion cd that required a key to be entered, and then once validated it wouldn't work anymore, however, even that would require an internet connection to validate the key. So. I guess the short answer of this is "no".
Unless there was a way to take your xbox to a gamestop and purchase content there, but at that point, it'd be easier to just take your console to the other room and hook it up to the broadband anyways.
So really, I can't think of a single way this could be implemented securely and logically.

Memory cards. They could have stations in the stores where you bring your own memory card in and download songs that way... this wouldn't be too much of a stretch, since they have 360 display units with memory card slots already, but I still doubt it.

I'm sure I've heard in interviews them saying they would also be releasing content on discs

Just to follow up on my post:
Q: Not to fuel the fire, but Rock Band will be in a position where it competes with the Guitar Hero series. A series that will now thrive on one, possibly two titles a year. Release wise, will Harmonix be entering the annual game or will downloadable content replace the need?
A: We do view Rock Band as a platform, onto which we intend to deliver a steady flow of high quality expansion content, both online and through retail as well. And I do think that this will go a long way towards maintaining the freshness of the play experience for quite a while. But I also don't believe we can rely on content expansion alone in the long term. For players to remain engaged, we need to continue to innovate on the feature axis as well; we need to give them new ways to play, new ways to engage with the music and with other players. As for whether these sorts of major feature upgrades come annually or at some longer interval, we haven't decided.

I suspect they will be self-contained expansions, like GH 80's. Since they would otherwise still require authentication via Xbox live, as mentioned above. Still useful, but not as convenient as having all the songs you own available in one list, in my opinion.

I thought about this too, Gamestops already have a DS wifi hotspot where you can download "special content", wtf ever that is.
But with the memory cards, there's still no way to authenticate the purchases. What's to prevent me from taking it and putting it in both my console and my bro-in-law's? The only way for that to happen is if there was some sort of rootkit (Ooooh four letter word right there!) installed on the card when you purchase the songs that would delete or lock the purchases to only that console. And I doubt that'd be a smart move. It's a (slightly) plausible option, but not one that I think would be likely to happen.

Sweet, thanks. :D
Now THIS is what I'm talkin' about!
Q: Your distributor, Electronic Arts, has been pretty far out there as of late, offering up real-life championship rings for Madden achievements. If you could offer some sort of real-life reward for Rock Band play, what would it be?
A: How about... the chance for your Rock Band band to open on tour for a major real-world band?

Marketplace content (like DLC) can only reside on your internal HD, since external media is unsecured.
I expect they will release big "DLC packs" on discs. You won't be able to copy them to your console, though, since that would let multiple people play it. I expect they will use a method similar to singstar where you hotswap the disc that you want the songs from. Either that or they will be standalone versions where you can only play the songs from that disc (and DLC, which again defeats the purpose of going to the store).

Huh? You can copy DLC to a memory card and bring it anywhere, but it won't work unless its verified in one of two ways:
1. Is it being played on the system it was purchased on?
2. If 1 does not apply, is the XBL account it was purchased on logged in and connected to the internet?
If you, say, bring your memory card with a bunch of songs on it to a friend's house, you WILL be able to play it ONLY if the account it was purchased on is logged in and online.

Yes, you can put it on an MS memory card for the X360, but not to an external HDD or thumbdrive.
Again, if you're logged on to the internet, this whole question is moot. If you're logged on, you can download it and don't need a disc.
