UPDATE - This group is mostly composed of people from NORTH AMERICA and SOUTH AMERICA (I think?), coast to coast. This should be taken into consideration because of time differences with the game now being available in Europe.

Hey guys,

I'm trying to populate my friends list and hopefully this thread will help gather great minds that think alike. Here's how I like my online experience:

- PS3 (obviously)

- Gold star obsessed? Move along please. I can FC my share of songs but scores are just a nice added bonus.

- Bass and Guitar should alter, unless someone picks bass because he/she obviously wants it. I usually take bass on the first song and expect the curtesy to be returned. I allow one strike. On the second offense I use the leave/kick feature.

- Failing a song is not the end of the world. People have much more fun by challenging themselves than playing it safe. If it's a close call, we just retry once, and then switch songs/difficulty.

- DLC please. I know this is discriminatory towards people who choose to invest their hard earned money someplace else, but I like to be able to play the downloaded songs for variety's sake. I personally have about 80% of it.

- By no means should beginners / lower difficulty players be excluded.

- Leaving because you don't like one song is pretty damn rude.

That's pretty much all I can think off at the moment. So if you beleive you'd fit this portrait, go ahead and post so we can all add each other.

I cannot recommend enough that you visit this room if you intend on playing with people who posted on this thread. Many of them show up at random hours looking to setup a quick band, and live communications makes the experience much simpler and efficient, not to mention that it's much more fun when you can share your experience on a song with your bandsmate.

:cool:Hey I don't have DLC but a lot of my friends have it and I could get some from them when they get on, but besides that I am not a beginner, I play drums on hard sing on medium and play the Bass, and Guitar on Expert. On GGHT i got 89-91% on the solo. I also like all the songs I'm okay with them, I have no problem with any song at all. Besides that I guess I'm good my PSN is SnipeNshot. I have the Boston and Grateful Dead packs as well as Metallica, Thrash packs and a bunch of songs.

Add me if you want I can do whatever, Expert guitar or bass, medium > hard drums (some songs expert but not enough yet), medium > hard vocals.

And I don't know if you can even do this on multiplayer, but I can play anything and sing at the same time if necessary.

I'm happy to have people to play with, unfortunately it seems hard to reach me by PS3 name alone, I need to develop some sort of system to let people know when I'm actually using my PS3 or if it's just on... thinking about editting the comment to read "Rock Band LFG" when I'm up for playing... really tired of going with random people and finding out they have no DLC.

I don't have all the DLC but I have a fair amount: Queens of the Stone Age Pack, Metallica Pack, Boston Pack, Calling Dr. Love, Working Man, Shockwave, Last Train to Clarksville, Fortunate Son, and War Pigs, currently are my list. This Thursday I'll be picking up everything... yep, the HMX pack, Still Alive, Saints of Los Angeles, and the Classic Rock Pack.

I prefer playing Bass, but don't mind playing Guitar (both on Expert), Vocals while playing bass/guitar (though only on medium/hart for most songs, only a couple I can do Expert), and Drums I'm still working on playing on Hard, but I can only play the drums from 12 PM EST til 10 PM EST (that's 9 AM PST to 6 PM PST).

Yup, that was me last night! Good stuff :-) Please don't mention my terrible hammer-on skils. I've switched from my PS2 only last week and this guitar will drive me insane! Can't feel the yellow, ugh!

@ChiTownBoi and others who I've been less fortunate with,

It appears I'm a victim of the infamous "Cannot connect to session" trouble. This seems to be a common issue and if I cannot fix it, I won't be able to play with some people (seems to hit randomnly). Luckily, I'm a network administrator and therefore I have access to a lot of equipment. I made severe changes to my internal LAN and hopefully this will resolve the issue. I'll probably find out tonight.

Thanks to everyone putting their names down. Keep 'em coming!

I too suffer from cant connect syndrome. The good news is that we will likely be able to connect to each other wince we both have the same issue. If you are lucky enough to find a fix to the prob please let me know what it was. I've spent countless hours on the phone with SONY, Harmonix, and my isp. Of course each blamed the issue on the others. Anyway, Add me if you like. I'm not exactly a casual player, but not every session has to be about gold stars. PSN is killed__it. I play expert bass/guitar but would rather play bass

hehehehe...this thread is for casual players and almost everybody is a hard/expert player , and me playing mostly in medium and beginning with hard :( ....but well someday I'll advance to expert, I hope. I began my vocalist training a week and a half ago...so I have a long way ahead.

Hey, I had a lot of fun yesterday too!! it's awesome to finally play my DLC online, and it motivates me to keep practicing in hard, maybe the next time I'll try the boston songs in hard to see how far can I go in those songs.

No worries about not playing expert, that's kind of the point of this bunch not caring about gold stars, at least not all the time. The most fun I've had with GH a few years ago was progressing, and beating that damn song after several tries. Elite groups are fine, but personally I do not have enough time to devote to this game to start making appointments with super players. If I happen to end up in an all expert bunch then yes I try my best to reach for the gold, but that's pretty much it. I think (hope) everyone posting here expects the same.

You are absolutely right. The lack of in game communication is a serious problem. I tried setting the comment to "free for Guitar" or something like that. Worked great, got me an invite within one minute. The problem is the comment remained there while I'm in a band with InFeRnOdude, and I got tons of invite afterwards. I had no way of telling him/her "Hey invite this guy, he wants to sing" on the fly. So we played in a band of two, which was still fun, don't get me wrong, but I wish we could come up with a way to coordinate four players on the fly. IM comes to mind, but I doubt everyone's equipped with a laptop or something else that would allow us to communicate while in a band. Why don't headsets work with this thing since they are shoving UPnP down our throat?

I think I might have fixed it. I posted what I did in a Tech Support thread. Just google "can't connect to session Rock Band" and it's the first link that comes up. Maybe you'll find something in there that could apply to you.

Well that's it for now. I'm being left behind all alone this weekend so I should be there a lot on Saturday (Friday's for social life). Keep adding each other, the more the merrier. If anyone has an idea or some experience with an easy way of in game communication, by all means enlighten me. And get some DLC if your budget allows it :-D

Well, you mentionned it yourself so too late ;)
But after all, this IS the casual players thread, so no worries; I was having trouble with the double-bass hits myself that night, but it was nice playing with you; will play again!

Last night, I played vocals online and ended up FCing and gold-starring dani california (we were drums and vocals) and I was like WTF... why can't I do that in my solo career? :D

Also, medium players, don't worry, we are about fun in this thread; but feel free to try hard occasionally, remember that other players can save you if a song is just slightly above your current skill level, that's part of the multiplayer fun, too!

This makes communicating in-game easier, but doesn't really provide a solution to the "Don't wanna play right now issue." Just thought this might make some communication easier.

Alright, not only are we gathering a larger crowd of PS3 people with DLC that don't care about scores and stars, but we're partially solving problems here. Thank you Chi for thinking of this chat room. It's simple, old fashioned, and it does the job pretty well. I think it will be better than IM might have been.

Just get in with your PSN ID as your handle, and perhaps a short suffix displaying your status (free for G, need a D, ...), you get the idea. We've started using it last night and since you can see what people have been saying to each other, you get a fair idea of what's happening and if there's a spot to be filled up.

You don't have a laptop near your PS3? Well you could always quickly visit the room (it's really small and fast), look around, make a post saying you want to be pulled in playing whatever, and when we see you (we usually quickly chat between songs), we'll gladly invite you in. We'll then post that we've invited you so that you don't get a zillion invites if the room ever becomes so popular that we can make 20 bands from the people in there.

Bottom line, it's extremelly simple and versatile. It doesn't solve the "no not THAT song again" problem though if you don't have a computer handy. We can address that later. Someone posted a link about a code for letting people know your disagreement. Might be an option. I dunno, I kind of like to think the only person who should ever refuse a song is the singer, otherwise it never ends, but that's just me. Let's keep that problem for later on otherwise we won't have anything to talk about anymore.

So far everyone I've played with in here has been an asset to the group and makes the online experience much more enjoyable. Add yourself to the bunch by posting in this thread if you think you fit the picture:

- mix n match difficulty,not aiming for all expert and gold stars
- friendly bunch of folks on PS3
- have downloadable content, it makes people love you.

Finally, I believe I've found a place where I more or less fit in ... I'm a very causal RB player (medium / hard guitar or bass, easy to medium drums, and the occasional but rare vocal), have all of the DLC (well, waiting on the last eight songs, but will have them as soon as possible), and really just enjoy playing the game. My only drawback is I normally only play late at night ... but if that's not a concern, feel free to add me ... PSN ID is Akrovak. Thanks!

It has come to my attention that the chat room doesn't have any time stamp option. This can be a bit of an annoyance when trying to find people. A red user icon means the user is offline (why he stays listed is beyond me). If you post and walk away to get pulled in, make sure you include the time of day.

Sure it's not perfect, but it still beats random people and zero communication !

I looked around for something similar with time stamps and found nothing. Jabber/irc are options, but I think we're better off with a one click solution like we have.

Casual drummer here .. can do lower tier songs on expert, but a little rusty. Hard is my comfort zone. Can also play a little guitar/bass too.

Have about 50+ DLC songs, including all packs except for the Earache Thrash one. I'll buy pretty much any DLC that comes out unless I absolutely hate it. Getting all announced albums when released.

I personally play the drums on half expert/half hard, and the guitar/bass on expert. Usually when I play I'll be playing with one or two other people so it should be easy to fill out a whole band depending on singing availability. The others I play with aren't as good at the game, but nobody plays on easy. We're all casual players who like to have fun, and have half and rising of the DLC.
I'm usually on on the weekends from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. EST (GMT -5) but I should be on a lot more sporadically on weekdays over the summer.

Well my router has been fixed so i can get back on the chatroom to talk (maybe some banning too :D) and jam out wit every1 again, but now theres another catch now. my drum pads are busted (due to some extreme rockin :o) so im doing guitar now till my new pads come in. anyway... ill see every1 soon, but once its the 25th tho im gonna stop playing RB for a while b/c im a beta tester for MGO (Metal Gear Solid 4 Online):rolleyes: so ill be non-stop playing that till they server crashes or is taken down after once the beta is over so yea ;)

Though some may have noticed I've been offline a lot, I've lurked now and then to see if this group was starting to fade. Au contraire! There is more and more activity in the chatroom, and the list of users keeps getting longer. Looks like everyone is picking up the ball and keeping the bunch running.

This is great. The whole purpose of this thread was to have people to play simply when you feel like it, and I beleive with the size we're reaching, we've accomplished just that.

If anyone wants to use voice chat and has a computer handy around their ps3, I set up a ventrilo (voice chat) server for people that I play with if you want to have a quick and easy say in what songs get picked and want to possibly have feedback, chatter and comradarie between players. I hang out in that chat room stated in the OP during evenings central US time, and off and on during the day. Everyone should be in that chat room at least, it's awesome, if for no other reason than you can say "hey guys, I need to go get some water real quick" without making people think you are being a jerk and stalling them.

The client software can be found at www.ventrilo.com and is free. There is even a basic free server software there too so people can set up their own for people they play with. I can probably assist with this to some extent if needed.

The server I set up is run off of my computer with the basic software and only has 8 slots and it is not run off of a dedicated server so it shares bandwidth with everything else I do. It can't host everyone, so I am just limiting it to people I am playing with at any given time and I give out info then. The ip address is subject to change anyway so if I told it right now, it might be different tomorrow.

Edit: Apparently ventrilo hosting isn't too expensive. If there is enough interest, I could probably donate a 20 slot server to the cause. Feelings have been a little split so far though so I am not sure it would get the use it would need to justify the cost.

I went ahead and got one since I found a place that seems to be ok and had some good deals going on and I was wanting it for a couple other things as well(not to mention it will likely sound a lot better for the sessions I am already running). Type "v6.hostventrilo.com" without the quotes into the host name field and use port 8954, password is rockbandy. If anyone wants to use it and needs help, I will be in that xat.com chat room, or aim kylin116 or msn kylra116 (at) hotmail.com. I won't be around aim or msn for another 6 hours after this post though.

I will probably make a few channels for groups when I can sign into the client.

You can also add that ventrilo info to the OP if you want. There is a large amount of room and I doubt that everyone will eat it up.

I'm a vocalist only, and I'm primarily Hard level, but I can play some Expert, averaging around 90% for most songs on this difficulty. I like mostly classic rock and 90's, especially Boston and STP. I'm not very good at rapping like "Sabotage" and some spoken parts and I struggle the most with "Reptilia", "Main Offender", "Gimme Shelter" and "I'm So Sick". Mostly play on weekends and my wife plays most guitar/bass on medium only (she's getting better). My wife and I are looking for a group to have fun with. I do Hard/Extreme vox, she does Medium/Hard guitar, but tries to stay away from bass (once in a while shouldn't be an isue, though). For DLC, we have all Metallica, all Judas Priest, all Boston, Fortunate Son, Rockaway Beach, Brass in Pocket, Number of the Beast, Joker and the Thief, Gimme Three Steps, Interstate Love Song, Calling Dr. Love, Thrasher, My Sharona, N.I.B., and Last Train to Clarksville. We tend to stick with classic rock, hard rock, and metal but we will play anything once. We're in it for a good time and we can hold our own. Have some fun with us!

Heya!

Very new and green. Had RB for two weeks. I am playing guitar up to medium but by no means 5 staring everything.

So, if you can tolerate me, I would love to find some folks to jam with.

I have a whacked travel schedule (conference presenter who travels the globe) so I might be missing for weeks at a time.

Wow, if I just did not say enough to have none of you ever add me!

But, I do have about 20 of the DLCs and do not mind buying more if I start hanging with people who have a bunch of songs I do not.

Wow, this thread is growing out of proportion. Thanks to everyone who is keeping the group alive. This is the biggest user additions update yet (the most overdue perhaps). Now success comes at a price, and we're out of room on our friends list (at least I am).

Now if you see that you have been deleted, it's nothing personal. Just re-add someone if you wish to send them an invite. Personally, I give priority to the people I see in the chatroom simply for convenience purposes. This old school chatroom makes the experience much more enjoyable since you grow to know the people you play with a little more every time. Most people are very open minded in there, and you shuoldn't by any means be intimidated to join in the fun.

I just had my first online experience with some guys (and gals) from this group. What a joy it was to play with people who just want to have fun and enjoy the MUSIC!! I usually don't play online cause of the "typical" people I meet up with but this couldn't have been a better experience. I'm so glad I found this thread. Just goes to show that a "fake" sick day can be productive...

Hey I'm used to making room every night I play, if you're around at some point we'll jam for sure. If you are fortunate enough to be able to chat and play at the same time, come visit the chatroom sometimes. It's starting to have regulars, but people are very welcoming and we get new folks joining all the time. A-holes usually don't stick around very long as they get ignored. Most of the bunch is either literally mature (old farts), or mature teenagers.

(well i think itll be fun...) maybe we should do this weekly thing (maybe on fridays) once a week where we all switch off and do different instruments we wouldnt do normally but still it out on hard at least and if ur feeling daring on expert ;p for example i always do everything else except vox, so on this day i would do vox on hard(probly nvr do a song on expert lol) but i think i PASS most of them xD i mean this would be fun were all about casual gaming but i think it be entertaining and provide better memories for us :D so what u guys think?

My friends and I had a late start from school last week, so we hung out and played Rock Band, and when we got bored, switched instruments. I was on Expert Guitar, and we had our singer on Expert Drums, and our guitarist on Easy Vocals. So then we picked Run To the Hills, and rocked out. Got 56% through the song with our vocalist saving us every 20 seconds or so. It was probably the funniest thing I've ever seen.

Well, that's pretty much what we've been doing isn't it? I know I have. I play guitar when the baby's asleep but besides that I try to stay away from it. I'd much rather drum or sing even if I have to do half the songs on medium.

I've had a chance to play with: Molemans Nemesis, cjpicton, and trt05. The "casual" play is perfect. All were great and I enjoyed playing with them. I just wish that chat or in game XMB would hurry up and happen. I DO plan on getting both packs next week.

My wife gives me a hard time when I say I'm playing with friends, but ever since we did the Endless Setlist she's not into playing much anymore. I play all instruments on Expert (although there are some vox songs I'll need to be saved on) I prefer the drums.

People can add me if they like. I play a lot... so casual... kinda... but the rest of the description fits me! I like playing online to find random people to play with. I don't really fight for the best score, I always think it's cool if a whole band of random people can get five stars (Gold stars are harder, since I don't mind if other have to play on Medium or Hard...)

I have MOST of the DLC... I'm only missing a bit.. and really they consist of the songs I really wouldn't want to play anyway. I literally love playing any song available with two exceptions: Flirtin' with Disaster. *Shudder* I can't stand how this song sounds.... and GG&HTs I play this song daily in the constant struggle to learn how to beat the annoying triplet arpeggio's in the last solo. My fingers aren't co-ordinated enough yet. If it gets picked in an online game, I'm usually very tired of the song already. I played once where online people picked this song 4 times in a row. And it makes me ill.

So far, I've gotten about 27 DLC songs: Metallica, Boston, Black Sabbath, NIN, Jimmy Buffet, plus a handful of singles. I plan to buy the Avenged Sevenfold songs from Thursday's pack.

I'm on PSN as War_Lord83, and pretty much play everything on Medium most of the time, though I sometimes attempt Hard on certain songs (usually for guitar, bass, or vocals).

i like casual play. i generally play guitar on hard-medium (some expert), and i get the rule with switching up guitar and bass.
i also enjoy singing (but am not so good at a few songs!) so i'm generally medium, but that could change to easy-hard depending on song!
i like drums as well, but i am basically easy-hard.
So, i will play anything, assuming that other ppl don't care what level i'm playing on! :)

I was hoping for something like this. :) I can play Medium drums and guitar with a bit of Hard guitar thrown in just this past week (varying degrees of success). I've got thirty-one of the DLC, the highlights of which I'd say are Metallica, Oasis, Boston, All-American Rejects, the Police and GLaDOS.

Truthfully, I've never played anything online before, so I'm a bit iffy about a lot of things, and unfortunately, I probably can't get to the chat room very much if at all (I'm actually using the PS3 web browser to post this) unless my housemate unlocks her computer. :( If you feel like giving the noob a chance, feel free to hit me up. I play in the evenings during the weekdays, and I'm off work on the weekends.

I can't seem to access the chatroom, I keep getting told that it's marked as a restricted site and unsafe for downloading the Active X from. I'm a little weary to set it as a trusted site, as rarely does that message show up.

Hello everyone! I saw the info elfreako posted in another thread and I thought I'd drop by and say hi. If you haven't guessed I'm HMXzip and I've been at Harmonix for a few months now.

Usually I have time for some online gaming a couple times a week.

I have a lot of DLC and play all the instruments (I like variety!)...

I suppose this is where I list stats? lol...ok.

D-Hard/Expert (sometimes Medium on really tough songs)

Oh, and just because I work at HMX doesn't mean I play on Expert all the time or expect you to...I find a lot of songs to be very challenging and I like to be able to save band mates if necessary. If I see the others are solid I won't store energy and I tend to try harder difficulties on harder songs.

As of now I have a decent amount of room on my list so feel free to add me and tell me that it's for Rock Band (because I also play RFOM, COD4 and MGS4) but please don't feel bad if I ever have to clear space or remove names for some reason, like if we have another night like that unofficial Doolittle album party that hmxsean was talking about and I run out of room.

Also, often when I play I'll start off alone online, but my roommate may want to jump in. If that happens I may have to bail and see if he wants to play solo, multiplayer or online (we use his TV in the living room, so I'm subject to the whims of he and his dog for space on his couch :( haha).

Hey guys, just wanted to throw my hat in the ring too. I've got about 80% of the DLC. Play guitar/bass on expert, drums hard/expert, and vocals medium. I've been looking for an easy going group of people who aren't completely obsessed with the maximum score.

I have the Metallica pack, Qotsa Pack, Oasis pack, both STP songs, the
collector, perfect drug, more than a feeling, zero, joker and the thief,
hysteria, limelight, gimme three steps, fortunate son, buddy holly, roxanne
and still alive (of course).

I play hard/expert vocals and My husband plays expert guitar/bass and hard drums.

Just got RB, from UK. Around 13 DLC songs. Mostly play Hard Guitar/Expert Bass. I suck at Drums, struggling in Solo Tour on Medium. And I've hardly tried vocals.
